PALM SUNDAY APRIL 14, 2019 8:45 a.m. 11:05 a.m.

A Dynamic Christian Community of Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ 1548 Mt. Vernon Road | Dunwoody, GA | www.dunwoodyumc.org

Welcome to Holy Week In the life of the Church, this week is Holy Week. It is the most important week of the year. It starts today with what is known as Palm Sunday. On this day we recall both Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but also the fact that by Friday, it ended on the cross. As a part of our celebration, our children’s choirs will process into the church singing. We will also be looking at the experience of Joseph of Arimathea, who offered his own tomb for Jesus. Each day during Holy Week, Monday – Friday, we will have a Holy Week Noonday Service. They will begin at 12:05 p.m. in the Sanctuary where we will have a short worship service. From there we will move to the Fellowship Hall where we will enjoy a light lunch together. On Thursday evening, we will focus our attention on Maundy Thursday. As we remember the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples, we celebrate the sacrament of our Lord’s Supper here among his disciples today. The service will start at 7:00 p.m. Prior to the service at 5:30 p.m. dinner will be served in the Fellowship Hall. On Friday evening, we will return to the crucifixion of Christ with a Tenebrae Service. Through music and the extinguishing of candles we will recall the fact that Jesus offered up his life for each of us and demonstrated once and for all the love God has for all of us. The service starts at 7:00 p.m. Next Sunday, April 21, we will celebrate the greatest news the world has ever received… JESUS CHRIST IS ALIVE. We will have four services that morning: the first will be a Contemporary Service and the other three will be Traditional Services. They will be held at 8:00 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 11:20 a.m. in the Sanctuary. I hope you will join us for as many of these services as possible. Better yet, invite a friend and join us as together we claim the redemptive power of God’s love. Blessings,

Dan

Psalm 118, #839 Prayer of Thanksgiving

In gratitude, O Lord, we come to your table, into your presence, into your house. For all that you have done for us, most especially, for the gift of your gracious son, we offer our thanks and praise. We long to live as children of light, doing what is pleasing to you and bearing the fruit of the light through Jesus Christ, who opens the eyes of the blind and makes the lame to leap. In his name we pray. Amen.

Offertory

The Holy City Adams Lauren Heidingsfelder, mezzo-soprano Last night I lay a-sleeping, there came a dream so fair. I stood in old Jerusalem beside the temple there; I heard the children singing, and ever as they sang, methought the voice of angels from heaven in answer rang. Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest! Hosanna to your King! And then methought my dream was changed, the streets no longer rang. Hushed were the glad Hosannas the little children sang. The sun grew dark with mystery, the morn was cold and chill, as the shadow of a cross arose upon a lonely hill. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Hark! how the angels sing Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your king! And once again the scene was changed; new earth there seemed to be. I saw the Holy City beside the tideless sea. The light of God was on its streets, its gates were open wide, and all who would might enter, and no one was denied. No need of moon or stars by night, or sun to shine by day; It was the new Jerusalem that would not pass away. Jerusalem, sing for the night is o’er, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna forevermore!
