3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER YOUTH SUNDAY MAY 5, 2019 8:45 a.m. 11:05 a.m.
A Dynamic Christian Community of Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ 1548 Mt. Vernon Road | Dunwoody, GA | www.dunwoodyumc.org
Sunday Celebrations The last couple of Sundays have been pretty special in worship, haven’t they? First was Easter Sunday with more than 3,400 people making their way into the Sanctuary for one of four services. It was the first time we celebrated Easter in our newly renovated Sanctuary and it was incredible. The Sanctuary was decked out with white Easter lilies, the music was superb, the spirit was wonderful and we professed our faith that Christ is alive. There are so many people to thank for all the work that went into Holy Week and Easter Sunday, I don’t know where to begin. In fact, if I start, I’m sure I will unintentionally leave out someone. That being said, I especially want to thank the Transition Team that helped us changeover the Sanctuary from the 8:00 a.m. Contemporary service to the three Traditional services. We had a very tight window and they successfully shifted it in 15 minutes. Last Sunday, of course, was Confirmation Sunday. Seventy-five of our young people stood at the altar of the church, confessed their faith in Christ and became the newest members of Dunwoody United Methodist Church. It is always one of the great joys of my ministry to lay my hands on the heads of those joining the church and confirm their faith in Christ. Again, there are so many people who helped to make this day possible. Some of these people include parents, other family members as well as those who taught and helped with the confirmation classes. I especially want to thank Director of Youth Ministry, Dallas Pfeiffer and Youth Ministry Associate, Brooke Freeman, for all their efforts. Besides the impact they had on the young people, they helped make the whole process run smoothly. This Sunday, we will be having Youth Sunday. The youth will be participating in every aspect of the services and our Seniors will be sharing from their hearts. Each year, I am always impressed with the exceptional job that is done by our youth. They offer prayers that give expression to our faith. They lead with confidence. They share stories that are inspiring. They help serve the sacrament with grace. I always leave feeling I have been blessed by their participation. We are a fortunate church. We have been blessed in so many ways. Thanks for allowing God to use you to be a blessing to others. Your Pastor,
Dan

Almighty God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ you broke the power of death and opened the way to eternal life. As the empty tomb stands witness to his triumph over death, make your church to be a bold testimony to his enduring victory in life, that all we do may proclaim to the world, “He is risen, indeed!” through Christ, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I will sing to the Lord. O sing His praises, praise His holy name. Oh, I will rest and put my trust in You, for You have given me my heart’s desire. Anthem
More Love Miller Youth Choir; David Doolittle, piano Four simple words we sing today. With these four words we ought to pray, and take to heart this sacred phrase: “More love, less hate.” It seems so easy on its face. Four words to heal the human race, and yet we struggle to create more love, less, hate. [Refrain: For love we stand! More love in this land! Will you join? Come, take my hand! More love, less hate.] When fear and violence touch our lives, hate separates, seeks to divide, our faith in love won’t be denied. More love, less hate. Just as night gives way to dawn, justice shines forth before too long. Until that day we will sing on, “More love, less hate.” [Refrain] 4

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER Invitation
Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Promise of Pardon Leader: People: All:
Hear the good news; Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen.
