Psalm 97, #816 Prayer of Thanksgiving

God of all blessings, source of all life, giver of all grace in all things, thank you for the gift of life, for the breath that sustains life, for the food of this earth that nurtures life, and for the love of family and friends without which there would be little happiness in life. Thank you for the beauty of creation of this great Earth, for the joy that the ear may hear, for the unknown that we cannot behold filling the universe with wonder, and for the expanse of space that draws us beyond the definitions of our selves. Everything in life, and the life that surrounds us was drawn and created by Your own hand. For this, we are grateful. Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer

After each prayer, the Leader will conclude: Lord, in your mercy, and all may respond, Hear our prayer.

GREATOREX

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Draw Us In The Spirit’s Tether Friedell Chancel Choir Draw us in the Spirit’s tether; for when humbly in thy name, two or three are met together, Thou art in the midst of them: Alleluya! Touch we now thy garment’s hem. As the brethren used to gather in the name of Christ to sup, then with thanks to God the Father break the bread and bless the cup, Alleluya! So knit thou our friendship up. All our meals and all our living make as sacraments of thee, that by caring, helping, giving, we may true disciples be. Alleluya! We will serve thee faithfully.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER Invitation

Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Promise of Pardon Leader: People: All:

Hear the good news; Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven! Glory to God. Amen.

Announcements WORSHIP

The Longing for Belonging Sermon Series Buried deep within each of us is a need for community, or to live in relationship with God and with one another. In this sermon series, we will be looking at this need that God has placed in each of our hearts, the challenges of living in community and how the church fits into God’s divine design. June 9 Jesus—The Community Builder Acts 2: 1–12 June 16 Love Matters 1 Corinthians 13 June 23 Serve Us—or Service Mark 10:42–45 June 30 When We Work Together Mark 2:1–12 Pew Crew Volunteers Needed Do you ever think about who restocks the pews each week with pencils, papers and sign-up pads? The Altar Guild has a team of volunteers who commit an hour a week for one month only. And they need you! Volunteers can work when the church is open, on your own schedule. Contact Linda Renegar, 404372-2902, llr51@bellsouth.net, or Betty Knight, 404-255-8604, brkmail@bellsouth.net. It takes 30 – 40 volunteers to organize and lead Contemporary worship each Sunday and we would love for you to join a team. Please consider helping as an usher, scripture reader, prayer leader or audio/visual team member. Contact josh.amerson@dunwoodyumc.org for more details.
