5TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST JULY 14, 2019 8:45 a.m. 11:05 a.m.
A Dynamic Christian Community of Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ 1548 Mt. Vernon Road | Dunwoody, GA | www.dunwoodyumc.org
Join us for Foodstock The Gospel of Luke reminds us that at a point in Jesus’ ministry, a crowd had gathered to hear him preach late into the evening. The disciples began to worry what such a large and hungry group of people would do for dinner, so they said to Jesus, “Send the people away so that they can go and find food for themselves, because we’re in the middle of nowhere.” Jesus responded, “You give them something to eat.” Oftentimes we are great at identifying a need in the world, but how much better when Jesus invites us to be a vessel for God’s provisions that can meet those needs! Save the date for Foodstock on Saturday, August 10, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the DUMC Gym. Dunwoody UMC, in partnership with Rise Against Hunger, brings together over 1,200 community volunteers to assemble 300,000+ dehydrated meals for children in need across the globe. The result fills a shipping container (20 tons of food), and it is shipped immediately to those in need. Our church, with the help of Simpsonwood UMC and other community groups, have packaged over 2,400,000 meals since 2010. This year, we will surpass two-and-a-half million meals packaged by this congregation and community! Come be a part of this wonderful event, and help reach this year’s goal of 314,064 packaged meals by our community. All ages and abilities are welcome to volunteer. This year, the Children’s Ministry will have volunteers and staff on hand to help families find age-appropriate and kidfriendly jobs within the service project at the start of the 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. time slots. A kid’s corner will be available towards the end of each shift where kids can take a break and re-energize while their parents keep serving. Volunteers sign up to work in two-hour shifts, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Register today for one or more shifts at dunwoodyumc.org/foodstock. For additional information, or to help with set-up on Friday, August 9 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., please contact missions@dunwoodyumc.org.

SINE NOMINE
Prayer of Thanksgiving
God, today we simply come in gratitude. We pause to thank you for your provision, your care. We are so grateful for the love of family and community. We are thankful for this beautiful place to gather in your name, for here we are challenged, encouraged and reminded of who you are and what you have done. We have been blessed with the fruit of your Spirit. We are thankful for the love, patience, kindness and gentleness of your Spirit. Continue your transforming work whereby we who have been loved will love; we with whom you have been patient will show patience; we to whom kindness has been shown will be kind; and we with whom you have been gentle will be gentle ourselves with all people. For all of this and more, we are so very grateful. Amen.

SINE NOMINE A Modern Affirmation
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare: We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.
