7TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST JULY 28, 2019 8:45 a.m. 11:05 a.m.

A Dynamic Christian Community of Fully Devoted Followers of Jesus Christ 1548 Mt. Vernon Road | Dunwoody, GA | www.dunwoodyumc.org

Waiting Well I do not like to wait. I do not like to wait on much of anything. And, I’m pretty sure that I’m not alone in my distaste for waiting. This is evidenced by a world that lives on text messaging, the promise of instant credit, same day delivery by online merchants and cell phones which allow us to instantly “Google” an answer to our every question—to name only a few modern conveniences which satisfy our need for instant gratification. Honestly, waiting can be good for us, and waiting is a part of life. We will explore what it means to wait and to wait well in the last installment of our sermon series, The Good Place. I hope you’ll join us as we look at Jesus’ Parable of The Ten Bridesmaids, what waiting means in the Kingdom of God and how we can do it well. One aspect of waiting well is to carry out the commandment to love and serve our neighbors. Two service opportunities for you to become involved with at DUMC include Foodstock and our updated Hospitality Ministry efforts. Foodstock is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, in our Gym where we will assemble nearly 315,000 dehydrated meals for children in need across the globe. This is a volunteer opportunity for families or other groups to serve together. Sign up for a shift at dunwoodyumc.org/foodstock or call the church office at 770-394-0675. Our Hospitality Ministry team is reminding us to make guests feel welcome whenever they come to DUMC by introducing yourself, learning guests’ names, introducing them to others and providing them with information about activities at DUMC. Two rules to remember: the 10-Foot Rule and the 3-Minute Rule. Speak to those people who are within 10 feet of you, especially those who may be alone. And spend three minutes before and after worship meeting and talking with people you don’t know. There will be plenty of time to speak to friends too. And remember to wear your nametag! May we all make the best use of our time as we wait for God’s Kingdom on Earth to be perfected, and as we fulfill our own responsibilities toward that Kingdom. Blessings, Rev. Kathy Brockman

Prayer of Thanksgiving

God, today we simply come in gratitude. We pause to thank you for your provision, your care. We are so grateful for the love of family and community. We are thankful for this beautiful place to gather in your name, for here we are challenged, encouraged and reminded of who you are and what you have done. We have been blessed with the fruit of your Spirit. We are thankful for the love, patience, kindness and gentleness of your Spirit. Continue your transforming work whereby we who have been loved will love; we with whom you have been patient will show patience; we to whom kindness has been shown will be kind; and we with whom you have been gentle will be gentle ourselves with all people. For all of this and more, we are so very grateful. Amen.

Psalm 85, #806 Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer

After each prayer, the Leader will conclude: Lord, in your mercy, and all may respond, Hear our prayer.

NICAEA A Modern Affirmation

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare: We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children’s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father’s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen.
