I hope that you’ve had time to slow down and enjoy the summer. Things are buzzing at Dunwoody UMC. Between summer lunches, camps and a host of mission work, our momentum of fellowship and serving is strong. And, most notably we are on the countdown to our new Sunday schedule on August 6. Preparations are underway as we work to iron out logistics, update materials, design and prepare for a new Chapel service, and focus on our two major
worship services – Contemporary at 8:45 a.m. and Traditional at 11:05 a.m. In between those two services is our Sunday School hour. All of our ministries are working to be ready for a new Sunday in August. More information is below or visit the website. Something new always brings a sense of excitement and anticipation about how everything will fall into place. Please be in prayer for our clergy, staff, lay leaders and the countless
volunteers who will help guide us in this new chapter. Thank you for being a part of our community and being a part of this journey. Blessings,
Dan
NEW SUNDAY SCHEDULE It’s a New Sunday In May, Church Council approved new Sunday service times recommended by the Worship Service Times Task Force. To make the change as smooth as possible, here are some common questions and answers about the new Sunday schedule. Why are we changing times? The Worship Service Times Task Force studied how we can support worship enhancement, the top priority of our five-year Strategic Plan. They concluded that adjusting times helps make each worship service more meaningful, gives families the opportunity to

worship together, and allows the whole church to be gathered during a common Sunday School hour. When does the new schedule begin? Sunday, August 6, 2017 What is the new Sunday schedule?
Visit the website for more questions and answers at www.dunwoodyumc. org/newsundayschedule. If you have other questions, please email them to newsundayschedule@dunwoodyumc. org or call the church office at 770394-0675.
It includes three distinct hours – two for worship and one for Sunday School. • 8:45 a.m. – Contemporary Service in the Fellowship Hall • 8:45 a.m. – Chapel Service • 9:55 a.m. – Sunday School for all ages • 11:05 a.m. – Traditional Service in the Sanctuary

MISSIONS
Mission Mondays Join us for Mission Mondays this summer (July 10, 17 and 24) benefiting children of Cascade UMC and Action Ministries. We will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for sandwich making and lunch packing. This is a fun way to serve as a family (all ages are welcome). We plan to make 400 lunches at each gathering, for a total of 3,000 lunches to support Action Ministries “smart lunch, smart kid” program. Nearly 800,000 children in Georgia receive free or reduced-price lunch at school, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer. We can help ensure that these children are fed during the summer.

Trinity Table
Our friends at Stop Hunger Now are now known as Rise Against Hunger. It’s still the same program and same great people, but with a new name and look that encompasses both food and water.
Dunwoody UMC is hosting Trinity Table on Sunday, August 27. Our church is filled with faithful supporters of this ministry and we are thankful for you. We need help with making sandwiches or sweets and with donations of fruit, snacks, or drinks for “to go” bags. Volunteers are also needed for preparing food and/or serving that afternoon. Please visit the Trinity Table link under Local Missions on our website to signup.
As in past years, we plan to package 300,000 or more meals over the course of five two-hour shifts. In fact, at this year’s event we are on track to package the 2,000,000th meal in our history. The beneficiary of the meals we pack is the Mully Children’s Family, founded in 1989 by Charles Mully. It is a home and a hope to orphaned, abandoned, and desperate children that provides food, shelter, clothing, education and love. Our meals will be shipped to one of their locations in Kenya and will go to feed these children for an entire year. We need many helping hands to reach this year’s goal, celebrate the 2-million mark, and most crucially feed the children at Mully Children’s Family. Please join us and Simpsonwood UMC on Saturday, August 12, to make this happen. Register yourself, your family and friends for one or more of our shifts at www.foodstock.us.
On July 24, in addition to preparing lunches, we will also be packing backpacks with school supplies for under privileged children in our community. Donations are always needed of sandwich bags, individually packaged bags of chips, fruit cups and drinks (water or juice boxes) in the donation bins near the nursery. Contact Samantha Faklaris at samantha. faklaris@dunwoodyumc.org.
STAY CONNECTED THIS SUMMER Join us Thursdays at noon for summer lunch. Sign up at dunwoodyumc.org/lunch or call Debbie Collins at 770-394-8492, ext. 111.

HOLIDAY FESTIVAL 2017 Christmas in July? 2017 Holiday Festival Preparations Are Underway Mark Your Calendar! November 11, 2017
Eager to get started on fundraising for the 28th Habitat for Humanity house to be built by Dunwoody UMC, the Holiday Festival Steering Committee kicked off its 2017 planning in May, and will work through the summer to lay the groundwork for a successful event. Four churches in metro Atlanta raise enough money annually to fund a complete home. Dunwoody UMC is the only church that meets its fundraising goal in a single-day event. Pulling off such a large-scale event successfully takes a little magic, and much like the magic of Christmas, it takes the magic of our members to get the job done. This “member magic” was clearly evident during the 27th build, as different groups and individuals brought their strength and skills to make a dream come true for a deserving family. In addition to Jack and Bette Whitley – who bring years of experience and a fleet of volunteers to every build – other members brought help from the different corners of their own lives. 11Alive reporter Jennifer Boettcher arranged for a team from the station to not only help with the build, but also to film a piece featuring the homeowners. (Go to the Dunwoody UMC Holiday Festival Facebook page to see the video!) Church historian Sue Cunnold arranged for her Girl Scout Troop to participate in the build www.DunwoodyUMC.org
as part of their Silver Star project, for which the troop solicited donations and raised money to furnish the inside of the house. Committed to including the homeowners, the troop had them create a wish list of household items. These included porch furniture, kitchen essentials, linens, an electric chair lift and more. Additionally, on Dedication Day, the girls hung louvered blinds in each window. Still more church members brought their co-workers to the build, while others participated with their Sunday School classes, small groups and families. This same “member magic” can be found within the Holiday Festival Steering Committee, as individuals bring their special skill sets to the team. All committee chairs are in place and new things are happening! We’d love for you to join the fun.
Do you have time, talent or even trips, tickets and treasures? CAC COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE CENTER
School Supplies Take Burden Off Working Family For families that live on a tight budget or suffer a financial set back such as a job loss, seasonal expenses such as school supplies for children can be a hardship. Yanet and her family experienced a stressful financial situation a couple of years ago when she took time off for surgery. Following her recovery the restaurant where she worked closed. The family struggled on one income, but a neighbor told them about CAC. CAC gave her family food, clothing for back to school and new backpacks with school supplies for all 4 children, a $200 value. “As the summer came to an end my girls got really worried about school supplies,” said Yanet, “they were just delighted to get the new backpacks and school supplies from CAC and were very happy with any colors they got.” Supporting the CAC bridges the gap for families like Yanet’s. Read on for ways you can contribute.

GRIEFSHARE Dunwoody UMC is offering a 13 week session of GriefShare that began on June 7, at 6:30 p.m. in Room E253. The program has a three component design to help participants along that journey and is designed to offer comfort, answers and hope. Anyone can begin attending at any time, although it is encouraged for folks to attend all sessions. Contact JoAnn Akers at akersjoann@gmail.com.
Tools for School
Donate to CAC’s Tools for School and your dollar goes further to help more children with the power of wholesale purchasing! Children of families that struggle financially often go to school without the necessary tools to learn. Studies show that when kids have school supplies of their own, classroom behavior and grades improve, selfesteem strengthens, and kids develop better attitudes toward school and learning. Please help CAC provide 900 local children from Dunwoody and Sandy Springs with new backpacks and school supplies! Just $35 provides one new backpack with supplies (retail cost $50 each).

For every cup consumed from the ROAR coffee line, $0.02 is donated to help people around the world gain access to clean water. We hope you enjoy the new coffee and supporting this worthy cause. NEW HORIZONS IN CHRIST New Horizons In Christ is a UMW circle full of caring Christian women. Many of us are empty nesters and some work and some do not. We have a flexible schedule that lends itself to members taking on the monthly service and/ or social gatherings. This year our volunteer highlights are working at
Medshare to package medical supplies for different countries, helping to prepare the rice into bags to be sold at the Holiday Festival, and assisting with VBS preparations. This year’s social engagements include our annual Christmas party, a pottery party and a night out with friends. We also try to
include lunch after our service projects. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Sharon Conway at 770-633-0556 or conway4@bellsouth.net.
CADETTE GIRL SCOUT SERVICE PROJECT Jordan Sgrosso and Sarah Holcomb
Renovations last summer brought Dunwoody UMC its new Sunday morning gathering spot for coffee in the education wing. More recently, two Cadette Girl Scouts enhanced the coffee room as part of their Community Service Take Action Project. Following a successful presentation to the Dunwoody UMC Board of Trustees, Sarah Holcomb (14) and Jordan Sgrosso (13) raised over $1,200 to fund their vision. Contributions to the room include photography by Sarah printed on canvas, custom murals designed by Sarah and Jordan, a marble table, throw pillows and a lamp. The girls earned Silver Awards for their efforts.
