CONNECTIONS Summer at

DUNWOODY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

HOW WILL YOU USE YOUR SUMMER TIME?

While summer schedules can be more relaxed and many have time off or away, remember there’s a place for everyone to spend some of that summer time here at Dunwoody UMC. Activity will abound with a wide offering of camps in our Nursery, Preschool, and Sports & Leisure ministries. Then, the week of June 19 ushers in one of the Children’s Ministries biggest annual efforts with Vacation Bible School and God Squad. Our Missions programs will continue to offer service opportunities for all ages throughout the summer. We will support Mission Mondays, to ensure children who rely on free school lunches will continue to be fed throughout the summer. In addition, Dunwoody UMC will provide helping hands with the Hightower Elementary summer camp week, Family Promise, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Feed & Seed and Package of Hope. FoodStock returns to Dunwoody UMC on August 12 and we’ll be serving at Trinity Table on August 27; please go ahead and mark your calendar for that now! Our missions will extend far beyond Dunwoody as well. In June, the Youth Ministry will travel to the Bahamas and others will be preparing for trips in July to Chattanooga, Panama, Brazil, Guatemala and again to the Bahamas. This summer there is also time at Dunwoody UMC to enjoy each other’s company and talents. Summer lunches run from June 1 through August 3. Be sure to reserve your spot by registering on the website. The Lion King musical will be presented by children of this church and community on June 14. Join us again for one of our most anticipated musical events, the American Celebration concert and picnic on June 25. These are just a few of the things that bring Dunwoody UMC together in service and fellowship and keep us connected throughout the summer time. You have a home here. Blessings,

Dan Your continued financial support throughout the summer helps us keep all of these programs running strong. Thank you for sharing your gifts with Dunwoody UMC.

STAY CONNECTED THIS SUMMER Join us for casual summer lunches. House guests and neighbors are welcome. We will be serving different weekly menus beginning on June 1 through August 3. Lunch will be from noon until 1:00 p.m. $5.00 per person. To ensure your place at the table, make weekly reservations by noon on Tuesday by signing up at dunwoodyumc.org/lunch.

MISSIONS Habitat Thanks You! Thank you to all our volunteers who helped make

Dunwoody UMC’s second Blitz Build a complete success. Due to the generosity and hard work of our congregation at the 2016 Holiday Festival we were able to fund the build of a new home for a deserving couple. The homeowners were out there building alongside many of you…and now that your sore muscles have recovered yet the memories are still fresh – we want to say thanks to everyone who participated. We can’t wait for what next year’s build will bring. Much gratitude to Jack and Bette Whitley for organizing Dunwoody UMC’s 27th build, it’s an incredible tradition that we are able to do every spring because our congregation and community comes together to help. Thank you!

Mission Mondays Join us for Mission Mondays

this summer – June 5, 12, 26 and July 10, 17 and 24 - benefiting children of the Cascade corridor and Action Ministries. We will meet at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for sandwich making and lunch packing. This is a fun way to serve as a family (all ages are welcome). We plan to make 400 lunches at each gathering, for a total of 3,000 lunches to support Action Ministries “Smart Lunch, Smart Kid” program. Nearly 800,000 children in Georgia receive free or reduced-price lunch at school, a crucial meal that disappears in the summer. We can help ensure that these children are fed during the summer. On July 24, in addition to preparing lunches, we will also be packing backpacks with provided school supplies for under privileged children in our community. Donations are always needed of individually packaged bags of chips, fruit cups and drinks (water or juice boxes) in the donation bins near the nursery. Contact Samantha Faklaris at samantha.faklaris@dunwoodyumc.org.

Family Promise Dunwoody UMC is scheduled to host Family Promise June 11-18. This is a fun and easy way to make a difference in the lives of those in need. We need volunteers as onsite hosts, for setup/tear down, meal preparation and supply donations to support up to four families as they transition from homelessness to self sufficiency. Dunwoody UMC and 12 other neighboring congregations hosts these families as they try to better their lives and those of their children while enduring difficult times. For more information or to sign up, please contact Samantha Faklaris at samantha.faklaris@dunwoodyumc.org. 4 | JUNE 2017
