HYPER CONNECTION GOOD FOOD Fundamentals of Architectural Design • Arch100b UC Berkeley • Spring 2016 • Instructor : Roddy Creedon

This multi-purpose building blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor in attempt to create a hyper connection with the city.

EXPLODED DIAGRAM The exploded diagram shows the different elements and massing of the buidling. The gap between the masses create the “outdoor/indoor” spaces that are open to the city outside but also enclosed within the canopy. The red stripes represent openings where the spaces within the canopy are directly connected to the outdoor environment.

As an extention of the city, Hyper Connection reimagines indoor spaces. The program includes outdoor galleries and classrooms, a farm, a research lab and outdoor/indoor seating areas. The ground oor is open to the city allowing food trucks to enter.

Multiple parts of the building extends to the city outside.

THEATER LOOPING FORM FINDING Architecture design IV • Arch100d UC Berkeley • Spring 2017 • Instructor : Kyle Steinfeld

This project dives into the realm of form finding through natural forces likepulling, stretching and gravity. The variouselements of a theater are created by only one loop with variation in angle adjusted through a self-designed machine.

FORM FINDING

LOOP DIAGRAM

Continuing from the first circuit, this projectfocuses on the interior seating of the theater. One single silicon loop mold is produced. By elevating, bending, and stretching the mold, different angle plaster loops are created. A total of 3 loops were created for the theater, each representing the proscenium, the stage and the orchestra pit on one end and audience seating on the other.

SECTION PERSPECTIVE The first loop sits on the top, forming the proscenium and third floor seats. The second one forms the stage and the ground floor seating area. Lastly, the third loop makes up the orchestra pit and second floor seating.

POTRERO HIILL LIBRARY Fundamentals of Architectural Design • Arch100a UC Berkeley • Fall 2015 • Instructor : Lisa Iwamoto

Through the diagonal staircase that pierces through the building, this project demonstrates the transition from negative space to positive space and the intertwining of the outside landscape and the interior.

DOUBLE NEGATIVE SPATIAL STUDY

SEQUENCE

POTRERO HILL LIBRARY Starting with Double Negative, we studied the relationship between positive and negative space. In phase two, Sequence investigates the wrapping and twisting quallity by extracting and delineating the stair volume, transforming voids into solids. Finally, following project 1 and 2, the Library project contunues the study of negative and positve space, but focuses on the “transition” moments.

SECTION PERSPECTIVE This sectional perspective shows the placement of multiple stairways while demonstrating how each staircase can be seen as solid while standing away from it, and void when walking through.

INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE This diagram shows the transition from positive to negative space as one enters the stairs. In contrast with the openess of the void indicated in black, the walls that wrap around the four staircases form the solid volume indicated in red.

ASAKUSA CULTURE CENTER Fundamentals of Architectural Design • Arch100b UC Berkeley • Spring 2016 • Instructor : Roddy Creedon

Through research and analysis, the Asakusa culture center is broken down and reconstructed into its 3 fundamental components, its structure, stacking volumes, and its wrapping quality.

EXPLODED DIAGRAM

PHYSICAL MODEL The louvres represent the wrapping quality of the buidling. It also serves as a connection between the solid and poche.

UNFOLDING DIAGRAM The diagram explains how solid, poche and the louvre system are interchangeable, and that one can imply another. The unfolding of the four faces of the building shows first the lovre system, which implies the shape of the solid, then the poche, and finally the outline of the slanted roofs and floors.

KRIS YAO | ARTECH BETHEL INTERIOR DESIGN Kris Yao architecture firm/ Bethel Interior • Summer Internships Taiwan • Summer 2015/ 16 • Supervisor : Grace Lin / Aaron Cha

During these internships, I was priviledged to work on collaborative projects with OMAand Renzo Piano Buidling Workshop. Works mainly focus on presentation drawings, model making and renderings.

FURNITURE DESIGN Furniture Design Studio Danish Institute of Study Abroad • Spring 2015 Instructor : Lars Hansen / Natalie Jeffers

Inspired by bar stools and the shape of a guitar, the chair is designed for leisure guitar playing or stage performance. Material: Wood, Steel base

Prior to designing the chair, we had to ďŹ rst familiarize ourselves with the history and philosophy of Danish furniture and under stand the signiďŹ cance of designing within the industry parameters. Studies of common construction methods and color schemes were also some of the major objectives of this course. Despite the limitations of a pre-formed veneer shell, the idea is to produce a chair of a single purposeguitar performance. Hence, the slim shape and the clashing colors.
