This community-learning pavilion creates a new destination for gathering at the burgeoning arts district in Auburn. This will serve as the new ‘front door’ to Auburn University’s southern campus. The state of Alabama is over 70% forested, therfore the main driver for this project is wood.

The Coffee House was designed as an addition to the existing Tea House, with an identical size/area, with restrooms and a service counter. An exterior space was also added which would establish a dialouge between the two buildings. Context, geometry and language of the existing Tea House was understood and interpreted in order to design the Coffee House,

16 architecture / bike hub
The site for the intervention of Bike Hub was located just outside of the architecture school at Auburn University. This allowed me to visit the site frequently to document and understand the context and chartecteristics of the site. The Bike Hub was designed with a variety of functions like hydration stations, bike repair, shower area, 40 - 60 bike racks and 40 lockers. This was a challenging project to design and formualte the plans and sections for, beacuse of its topography and how the architecture interacts with it.

20K Project
Ophelia’s Home Rural Studio Newbern, AL, USA Spring // 2020 Emily McGlohn + Chelsea Elcott
Ophelia’s Home Overview
20 architecture / ophelia’s home
Ophelia’s home is another iteration of the 20K Model House (Joanne’s Home) designed and built by 12 third year Auburn University architecture students. Joanne’s Home plan was altered to fit the site and context based on the requirements from the client. The width of the house was elongated from 26 feet to 28 feet. Additionaly, more space was added inside the house by pinching 5 feet of interior space out of the generous 15-foot-deep exterior porch. This additional 150 square feet of habitable space created room for a sleeping nook and allowed for the back door to be located in the bedroom, supporting private access for two residents. In order to address the site’s steep slope and provide an enclosed foundation to support homeowner’s insurance, the house utilises ventilated crawlspace, using CMU blocks to structurally support the house. Passive vents were used to prevent moisture buildup. The building construction was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic that errupted in the Spring of 2020.

Constitution ATL initially began with a sketch the depicts the concpet of the movie Interstellar (1). The concept diagram of Interstellar then was physically built into the form of a scultpture (2 & 3). As the sculpture evolved, a virtual model was built in Rhino (4). This basic geometric form of the sculpture was then revamped into the existing Atlanta Constitution building’s floor plans (5).

The floor plans combined with the rings and strings from the sculpture were formulated into a new design. They were defined as either light fixtures or physical enclosures based on the programmatic needs.

The concept for this Adaptive Reuse project is Health at different scales. This is where the project gets its name “Constitution” from, which means; physical state of something with regard to health, strength, vitality and psychological makeup.

The new version of Turner’s Home was designed to be added into the collection of Front Porch Initative’s model homes. It was designed with efficiency, safety and accessibility in mind. The whole house features as a storm shelter, while providing ample exterior space which incorporates an accessible ramp. The clerestory roof allows for great interior lighting. With the additional 330 sq-ft of space, a big nook, a small nook, three closets, a back porch and a new seating area in the front porch were added.

A 20K Storage Solution (Book)
The driving force for Ophelia’s cabinetry was cost efficiency. To decrease the cost of materials, the amount of different cabinet modules were limited. Deciding to forgo traditional door handles because of their tendency to break, the handles were carved out of the face frame. Overall, the cabinetry maintains a simple and sleek aesthetic. The cabinet doors and drawers overhang the face frame and leave the smallest of gaps to emphasize the minimalistic design which was possible with the precise nature of CNC routers. Writing Box Interior Studio Fall // 2019 Rebecca O’Neal This Writing Box was designed and curated for author Winston Groom, who wrote Forrest Gump. This project allowed me to explore his books, its characters and his own life story, which helped define the program for this desk. This versatile piece of furniture was made out of birch wood, including the custom designed hinges, that were routed with the help of CNC routers.

Light Fixture Interior - Elements Studio Fall // 2019 Coleman Mills This light fixture was designed and programmed to depict the natural process of day and night. It utilizes Circadian Lighting Technology (CLT), which helps people with memory loss conditions, as they respond better to circadian rhythm. It keeps them in sync with their body clock. This project was an attempt to emulate the effects of sunlight in interior spaces / built environment.
