As a woman, you get to hustle nowadays and smoke a cigarette or two, wear a suit, be a big time business boss. We are made to believe that fragility is beauty. Strength is beautiful. We Are still here.

It’s a long process but nothing feels more liberating than detecting your limitation and overcoming it, in a gentle and self-respecting way.

We are all capable of great things, no matter what anyone says. JAUNE \ ISSUE 02

Don’t want any woman to feel as though they have no value outside of being sexually desired. They are not weak. They are strong and capable of so much.

Within months of discovering her passion for photography during her junior year of college, Marina Choy was already working with magazines and brands including Red Bull. Shooting on a Canon 5D MIII, Marina infuses photos with warmth and meaning. Her kid sister inspires her voice and POV. I want her to grow up in an environment where “natural is appreciated not just tolerated or shamed. I originally started a lot of my portraits to set standards straight and re-shape how people see females (cellulite, scars, etc.)

In her creative practice, Paula Amenta loves merging her two passions: photography and music.

During concert tours that stressed me a lot, I started taking pictures. This freed me and became a way to play with the art I had lost. Like so many amateur photographers in the twentyfirst century, Paula’s first photos were snapped on the phone.

So my work was flat and almost only scenographic. When I started using a reflex lens, I discovered a new world with approaches and details. I think this made me more and more inside the scene, and today I can produce more intimate works. PA U L A A M E N TA \ P H O T O G R A P H E R - M U S I C I A N

Silences, femininity, dreamy atmospheres, and many pastel colors. Paula works only with natural light, keeping her workspace very bright. One table is home to all the props she hunts for at vintage shops, and the other she dedicates to editing.

Usually I do not have a conscious creative process, but I try to share different things that surround me: body, space and nature.

I AM INTERESTED IN VISUALIZING SORORITY AND SISTERHOOD. In between projects, we can find Paula Amenta making music or reading in a park in Barcelona.

This collection of photographs capture moments where Argentine-born Paula felt the magic of her new home in Spain where she has decided to live for a year.

A PORTRAIT OF LOVE AND RESILIENCE

ELIZABETH ECHEMENDIA ORTEGA

From the cockroach illustration that was her first drawing, to being discovered as a model at 16 years old, to stepping behind the camera with her partner after welcoming their son into the world—expression and creation have been a constant flow through all the arteries of Elizabeth Echemendia Ortega’s life.

Cuba encloses love and pain for me, the richest materials in the world.

132 I’ve always wanted to make a shoot with a Cuban aesthetic, not just in color palette or mood, but also to portray the fight and resilience, the sensuality and joy of the Cuban people.

That’s why Eden is the subject of these photos. A determined woman with strong character, but so sweet at the same time, who loves herself and embraces her body and what she has and knows how to carry it, detached of expectations, happy in her skin.

A PORTRAIT OF LOVE AND RESILIENCE

What did it take to capture Eden’s power?

We (my husband and I work together as a team) first did a moodboard, color palette, and concept. Then we did the shoot. And after at home: the post production, which means color treatment, retouch—this last part is what I

133

love the most, playing with the colors and the image.

Our photography is natural and spontaneous, we prefer natural light over strobes, we like creating evocative and real images, we like nature and people, and them together.

I want to see our work in Vogue, in Purple Magazine, i-D. I want us to work with the big brands I admire the most: with Jil Sander and CELINE.

As a solo project, Elizabeth plans to publish her poetry book and finish writing her memoir soon. Powerful, blunt and tender. In the meantime, she spends her days reading at the library or at the park with her son. Mornings, you’ll find her having a coffee while she edits, and taking

photos or writing in the afternoons.

I always had a camera with me but never thought of it as a career, I just enjoyed taking photos. That quickly changed when someone hired me for a portrait session.

That experience inspired her to take workshops and immerse herself in online tutorials. She now specializes in fashion and portrait photography with the goal of bringing diverse cultures and powerful women to life through her colorful images.
