01 TERRATOPIA
Reverse of George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984”
- Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Terratopia. Please gather around me and let me tell you a little about the history of this place. -Many years ago, in a place not far from here, these people lived under another government. This government was manipulative and controlling and ignored the needs of the people. After years of repression, people were so fed up and ready to explode. As a result of a seemingly small event, a rebellion was triggered and all the people revolted. As a result of these uprisings, they knew that they had to start a new life after overthrowing the government. Of course, this new life could not be built on the corpse of the old one. Envoys were sent to all directions and new lands were sought.
Efficient. Clean. Untouched
-After discovering this place, they realized that this was the place where they had to build a life. The first settlers began to engage in agriculture by building simple shelters. As they developed themselves in agriculture and the population increased, they began to give importance to education in order to establish a strong society. They began teaching children and young people about the past, the future, science, and how to make the right decisions for themselves. As the population and places of education increased, they realized that they needed to move to a more efficient urban system in order not to clash with nature with the mistakes they made in the past. Everyone started to design something to survive, taking up as little space as possible. The city had 3 main parts: Education. Life. Trade. They thought that if we combined these three areas at one point and ensured their continuity, they could move to the most efficient structure. So this structure that you see came into existence. On the bottom floor, people can easily walk and socialize, (they thought to put the most visited area at the bottom since the most human activity was in the trade area). They thought of putting the education on the mezzanine floor so that everyone can access it easily. In order not to break their ties with the sky, they put their living spaces on the top. -Now let’s take a tour and see for yourself how these hardworking people live.

3rd Floor
It is a socializing and market environment. People bring the products (grains, fruits, vegetables, etc.) obtained from their agriculture to the market area and distribute them to the public while they are fresh.
The workshops are located on the second floor. Mutual exchange of education is done by telling everyone what they know and learning what they don’t know. Children get the education they want, young and elder people develop themselves in the fields of art, mathematics, and physics.
Living areas are formed on the floor with the least circulation so that people can rest comfortably. The organic shape of these areas is due to the hatred left by the flat apartment buildings of the old buildings.

02 OXO SCHOOL OF VIDEO GAME DESIGN Game Design School in Kagithane/Istanbul
Kagithane was a zone of industry and production since the 19th century. There was no settlement there until 1950’s when the city received thousands of migrants from Anatolia, who came to work in factories and services. Since then the district has been a composite part of Istanbul with various social classes blended. The project area is located where complex urban textures were intersecting, creating an urban boundary. The design method was using this intersection to join areas with a previous intervention. The large project area is attenuated with light structure and transparent materials. The plan was designed to surround the area to create a community life within the enclosure. OXO School of Video Game Design is named after OXO game by A.S. Douglas, one of the earliest interactive games to display visuals on an electronic screen. OXO is an educational place with a 2-year curriculum. The school is equipped with every need of a game design student including voice recording studios, conference rooms for presentations, gathering, and displays of prototypes, the library for research, studios with high-tech equipment and auditorium for finished product displays and seminars. Students use this place as a space of education and space of socialization.

Urban boundaries can be seen as we investigate the area as a whole urban mass. The segregation and the increasing/ decreasing of the building intensities can be easily observed. The area in the small scale has commercial, residential and industrial areas within. This closed system is working all together while respecting the urban boundaries.

03 NODE Collective art space in Uskudar/Istanbul
Node, a collective art space focused on hand crafts, music and performance art.
Uskudar has been changed but yet not adapted to modern society requirements. The area has been a conservative part of the city which holds on to it’s past excessively, restraining itself from evolving and improving. Art is one of the frame stones of the modern society and social improvement for centuries. In order to reach modernity, and the requirements of the century, the city must evolve alltogether. Uskudar needs an immidiate action to catch up with the rest of the city, and so the art takes action. Putting a block of unreachable art space is pointless for the main concept. The people of the area must be drawed in the space by creating education areas. When public learns and procreates, society improves almost immidiately. The two main parts of the design consist of the hand crafts nodes and the performance arts node. Hand crafts node includes workshops such as wood working, sculting, drawing and ceramic. Other than teaching areas it has regular working spaces for informed incomers. The gallery constantly displays works of art created here. The performance arts node includes individual and collective music studios, dancing studios and workshop areas. Practiced plays and concerts are displayed on the stage regularly.

Tr a n s p o r t a t i o n al circulation of the area comes through the coast line towards the inner parts.
Circulation axis of the area connects in the middle, creating a node of connections.
Modules of the structure settle facing the node and interconnect in between.
Connected modules allow pockets of flow, creating passageways in between the spaces.
Functions of the modules are determined by the publicity of the site. Modules facing the main street are publicly used while the inner one’s usage are limited.
Workshop, gallery and maker areas are hiearchically ordered. The students learn in workshops, master in maker area and at last display their works in gallery, and so on.

The same hierarchy works with the performance art module as well. The students practice in dance studios and music rooms, and afterwards perform on the stage stationed middle of the Node.

04 BIOROBOTICS LAB Biotechnology Reasearch Centre and Science Center in Kadikoy/Istanbul
The scenario will be a science center that conducts biorobotic research and production, which is one of the strongest fields of biotechnology. Biorobotics is one of the best examples of approaching the future by looking at the past and developing studies. Each of the billions of living things discovered or not yet discovered in nature has a talent that can be adapted to other functions. Examining these and combining them with the science of robotics emerges the science of biorobotics, which is the fusion of the past and the future. The field of biorobotics is a very broad interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary study tool, from genetic engineering to medical research, from electrical engineering to architecture. Kadıköy, which is the project area, is one of the key points of Istanbul. It is close to many higher education and education structures, as well as the beginning of many public transportation and transportation lines. The success of the building as a research and science center is directly proportional to the accessibility of the building. This accessibility can be examined as both physical, that is, access to location, and mental, that is, reaching people and including them. Therefore, the fact that the building is located at such a key public transport node paves the way for the center to be accessible to people and creates more space for mental accessibility.

21
The area is located in Kadıköy which is one of the most crucial point in Istanbul
Haydarpaşa train station, the circulation and the rise of the buildings towards the sea of Marmara
22
First, the topography of the structure of the field began to be studied.
Based on the elevation projection of the surrounding buildings and considering the topography slope, the orientation of the mass was changed and thinned.
The nature breezes started to affect the building. Pedestrian circulation was drawn to the coastline, and the interaction of the building with this circulation was reflected in the form.
The rise of the form on the shore side was repeated in the direction of the main entrance of the structure, ensuring continuity in tectonics. The form now has a shape that adapts to its environment, like a natural formation or living thing.
In order not to blind the axis in the northeastern part of the building with the structure, “breathing” channels were created to provide visual communication with the coastline. Lightwells have been added to this form, which, like every living thing, will need constant contact with light.
The aim was to create an aerodynamic structure that sits on the ground by passing the wind force, which is an important factor coming from the shore, through the interior rather than in front of the structure.
Sketches represents the general ideas
23
In addition to the light received thanks to the permeability of the façade, a more spacious space was created by applying the same permeability to the ceiling and opening the gallery space.
24
Thanks to the adjustable partition walls, both collective and individual work areas were created. Robotic arms moving on the rail can pass through these areas and stop and produce in the required area.

05 UNDER ONE ROOF Finalist Mention Award WWF Observation Cabins in Lagoon of Orbetello in Tuscany/ITALY
People take shelter under roofs that define a tamed piece of nature free from the noise, harsh wind, rain and snow. However as we grow too far from nature we forget to appreciate the fact that we are highly dependent on and responsible for its well-being. On this critical point of time where the harm caused by us against the nature becomes irreversible, it’s urgent to remember, we live under one roof -sky- with all the other creatures of the world.

Inverted-roof
THE OBSERVATION CABINS The observation cabins are thought of as inverted roofs which emphasize nature rather than avoiding it by taking the wind, sunlight, rain and the sound of the birds inside. The multi-sensory rooms encapsulate and intensify the experience of being in nature by making people; 1 Go through a passage that leads to a sky window 2 Stop and listen to nature 3 Feel the breeze that flows under the birds’ wings 4 Enjoy the feeling of sitting under a tree with the sun going through leaves 5 Feel the texture of the timber 6 Enjoy an undivided view of the birds and horizon

VISITORS’ CENTER
GUEST HOUSE + RESTAURANT
Visitor Center maintains the inverted-roof approach and lets visitors see the picturesque views of the oasis yet gives possibilities to different spatial uses. The circulation and the facade are transparent thus the borders are indistinct.
Guest House has a linear plan organization; the circulation is placed in the middle due to the privacy, the use of spaces, and a window to the oasis. The restaurant will be open for the other visitors as well, so it takes place in front of the building and welcomes everyone.

Visualization of the book “Looking Backward” by Edward Bellamy Based on Edward Bellamy’s 1887 book Looking Backward, the research is basically a study of an author who tried to predict the future from the past, updating it with an individual from the future and creating a new product.
Social Life in “Looking Backward”
An individual living in 1887 imagines the 2000s with the possibilities available in 1887. There are many works that were created with futuristic dreams based on guesswork. An individual who has lived in the 2000s, on the other hand, can revive these dreams closer to reality by using the event, place and society he has seen and experienced.
