REFERENCE LETTERS

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,
I´m Alberto Campo Baeza, Dr. Architect and professor at the School of Architecture of Madrid. Javier González-Adalid was a student of mine at the fifth course in the subject Architectural Projects. During this time I’ve had the opportunity to evaluate his academic progress, so I write to recomend Javier González-Adalid for any future collaboration. In my class, Javier demonstrated a very continued course development and, like a very efficient and enthusiasm student, he completed the projects course with an outstanding grade (9 over 10). He showed a great capacity for intense and constant work and an inconditional interest on the project we developed: an exercise that began with urban planing and finished with the design of construction details. During the course, Javier demonstrated a clear aptitude to work in group and strong graphic and design skills, either with computer programs or on modelmaking. According to the experience I´ve had with Javier on class, it is with complete faith that I give Javier González-Adalid a strong vote of confidence and the highest recommendation.

University Final Thesis
2012
The centre for art creation and exhibition, is located between the historical centre of Oporto and the University area, in a plot near to El Parque del Palacio de Cristal. The choosen area is a dry river bed. The hard topographical conditions of the site, makes that the surrounding urban developing left this plot as a residual space. The objective of the project is to introduce a complex piece in order to restructure and reorganize the site. A diverse tipological urban context is going to make necessary that the building gets adapted a long the perimeter, but using architectural tools, as geometry, the project will be understood as a unit. This intervention is trying to boost the spatial values of this characteristic place, taking advantage of its own features and reinserting an area that at the moment could be considered as a gap in the urban context.

RESIDENTIAL AND CULTURAL COMPLEX Location:
Oporto, Portugal
Architectural projects Exercise 2010
The location of this project and the program proposed (a large residential and cultural complex) will be the most important two facts for its develpment. It must be situated on the city of Oporto, in a park named Cristal Park.In this park exist two very differentiate parts, one situated next to the city centre, presents a very consolidate and cared park area. The other, presents a very complex and irregular topography that makes nearly impossible an urban development or an adequate use as an urban park. The project will be located in this unstructured area of the Cristal Park, to resolve this urban zone and give it some use, so it doesn’t become an urban waste. With that first objective, the project will be shapely understood like a very big infrastructure that will delimit and qualify distinct areas giving the zone a consolidate function.

RESTORATION AND EXTENSION OF A RAIL COLONY IN MADRID Location:
Madrid, Spain
Architectural projects Exercise 2010
At the begining, the rail colony of Las Matas, consisted of two rows of equal houses, positioned along a pedestrian road and centered between two railways. Nowadays, one of the railways has dissapeared, so the pedestrian road constitution become incongruent, spilling his space to one side , on a space that has been deserted without a certain use. The intervention, will try to sew up the space holded between the houses and the useless space beside them, so, understanding the existing configuration as an important fact, the extension will must take into account two essential processes: geometric and volumetric analysis. The programm that will be introduced in this place will be a Social rehabilitation centre for young people.

SCHOOL AND ELDERLY SOCIAL CENTRE
Location:
Almere, Holand
Architectural projects Exercise 2009
The project is located in Almere, Holland. Here the architecture of Aldo Van Eyck has been very important. One of the favourite ideas of Aldo Van Eyck, was to design a building containing apparently opposite programs. The project will follow this idea, holding a school and an elderly social centre. It gets organized in two spaces. A fluid space covered with a translucent glass roof, where the perception of the sea and the forest will have the same value and where both programs will coexist. The opposite space will be holded into massive concrete blocks, which will organize the translucent space. Those blocks will content the parts of the program that need to be more independent. In this case the illumination will be concise and the perception of the exterior will focus on the sea or on the forest, but never both at the same time.

The Project is located on the Morningside Drive Park of New York, in front of the Columbia University. The program consists on a building focused on the development of university masters and doctorates, so it will function as an enlargement of the Columbia University. The features of the terrain, a 20 metres unevennes, will be decisive for the creation of the project. The building will be understood like a very big wall that divides two very different spaces and it will be orLocation: New York, EEUU ganized so that the cultural and educational part of the program will be focused on the green wall of the park, and the more administrative program will be faced to the extended space of Architectural projects the Morningside Drive Park. This duality of spaces will be provided by a concrete plane that is folded in two directions depending on the program that contains. Exercise 2008 UNIVERSITY BUILDING FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

RESIDENCE TOWER FOR STUDENTS
Location:
New York, EEUU
Architectural projects Exercise 2008
The location is the same as in the previous project, the Morning side Drive park in NY, in front of the columbia University, but in this case it will be a residence tower for students. The element that will generate the main idea, will be the configuration of the rooms. Begining by this element, assures that the tower will acquire a human scale. Reinforcing the idea of living in a tower, 80 meters over the ground, (which introduce the important concept of vertigo), is what the specific and studied design of the rooms is persecuting. The rooms will acquire the condition of being vertical rooms, understanding it as small towers, so all elements that a room must contain will be organized on height, around a narrow stairs, acting as the edge of the room.

The idea of the project begins on a strict lecture of the plot and the urban frame features that surrounds it. At the rear side it is configured by a system of closed blocks and it opens on a front side to one of the principal streets of Madrid, Paseo de la Castellana, with very good sights to the Botanic Gardens, also a very representative area of Madrid. The project is configured by a transclucent block, supported by a concrete basement. It gets aligned to the urban frame at Location: Madrid, Spain the rear side and explodes on the front side, with a space from wich good sights of the Paseo de la Castellana and the Botanic gardens are principle. Inside the translucent block, metallic Architectural projects columns organized with a regular frame, support five concrete and white painted slabs that move all around the empty space of the translucent volume.
