ECG – applying electrodes • Use quality electrodes - All electrodes selected should be of the same brand and type to help minimize noise. • Avoid pressing directly on the electrode center since it spreads the gel out and may create air pockets that contribute to noise. • Attach the lead wire to each electrode before applying the electrode. • Electrodes that are packaged together in large quantities should be used shortly after the packaging is open or the packaging should be tightly re-sealed since extended exposure to air will dry out electrodes

Respiration • Respiration is measured between two electrodes: – In standard mode between RA and LL – In EASI mode between I and A • Measures impedance change over the chest • Wave and respiration rate can be displayed

IntelliVue basic alarm behaviour A new alarm on the monitor is announced using four indicators: • • • •
Alarm sound Alarm LEDs Alarm message Blinking numeric
• Selecting the Silence button will only stop the sound and the LEDs. The other two still continue as long as the alarm condition exists. Silence only applies to the active alarm. • The message and blinking numeric will disappear when the patient‟s condition goes back within alarm limits. Alarms Suspend time The duration for which alarms are suspended can be configured: • 1, 2 or 3 minutes: this creates a “ALARMS PAUSED MM:SS” message in the top right of the screen that counts down until the time is up. Alarms will automatically be switched on after the countdown expires.
• Infinite: this creates a “ALARMS OFF” message that does not count down. Alarms are switched off until they are manually switched on again!
• Suspending alarms applies to all alarms!
