Javier Huerta draws lines in paper, fabric and digital; as well as modeling in digital, wood, steel and precious metals. Has experience designing architecture, apparel and conceptual imagery. With a degree in business, has work experience in management. Project, auctions, sales, sourcing and customer management are some handful skills. Travel is also a big part of his life, developing language and cultural skills. Comfortable conversing and thinking in Spanish and English. As well as enjoying the occasional Italian, French and Dutch literature and movies. Cooking, film, couture, literature and philosophy are key influences in developing his work. Light, color and texture are major objectives for the enjoyment of his work. All the work that is featured in this site was made to create a whimsical visual language in the pursuit of a personal statement.

The natural world is gritty, uncontrolled, and a powerful system that can elicit strong emotions in us. The swaying of a tree, the changing of its leafs, the sight and sound of rainfall relaxes us. The natural changes of our environment have been with humans through every step of the evolutionary process. Trees were swaying, leaves were changing and rain was falling before humans existed. Yes, we as humans have influence over it; we allow it to live or die through our decision to pollute or destroy it with machines. We define the natural world as the global ecosystem of flora and fauna that humans may participate in, yet are unable to control. This world has the power to embody our consciousness, and shape our minds to a primal calm/emotional state.

Designing for the virtual world in our house brings the amazing accessibility and efficiency that has made it such an integral part of how we choose to live our lives. The virtual world is complex, it is ever changing and evolving. Never down. Composed of a friendly UI, international yet easily adaptable to locale and user preferences. It learns your tastes. The bread crumbs of your habits. Trends our very own behavior. Predicts our next move. Creates a real-time perspective of the world we live in. A continuous flow of data, even when we are not present. Places ourselves anywhere we want. Traveling without moving, is suddenly possible. Our body is no longer necessary to make us present anywhere we want. Everything while in the safe confines of our home.



The scheme proposes an explicit architectural juxtaposition (yet coexistence) representing the two worlds that we now live in: the physical natural world and the virtual world. Mediating human interaction with technology and the natural world. The house is composed by cubic spaces open on two sides, either open towards the surrounding nature or directed towards the sky replacing the horizon as screens act as walls replacing the horizon and opening a window into the virtual space, the cognisphere were our virtual persona resides.


Plus + House.

House 2020 Competition. 1st Stage Finalist. In collaboration with Chirstopher Tron


Formed by two elements, the + (plus) shaped rammed earth elements and cubic glazed spaces. Creating an interaction between Lo and Hi-tech, as the + (plus) elements, equipped with geothermal technology act as spatial organizers, craddle the cubic living spaces radiating heat into them, whilst also protecting them from the elements. The design allows for a modular growth and the use of prefabrication technology.


Bestiarum Urbanus.

Urban Proposal for the Allen Road Expressway, Toronto.

An urban scale project, realized using existing urban and architectural precedents in order to create a recognizable yet unique proposal. Characteristic urban elements of cities like New York, Madrid, Sa천 Paulo form this proposal. A defined set of architectural Typologies are use within the project, creating a hybrid city. A mongrel of sorts. A fantastic city. The tight communities of the Brazilian favela, the livability of the Madrilian perimeter block, the opportunities of the New-Yorker sky-high-tower. Make up this mythical creature. Like those of the bestiairiums of the middleages. The unicorn or the rhinoceros.




Solid Infrastructure.

Water Education & Aquatic Centre. R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, Toronto.

The R.C. Harris Water treatment plant sits on the edge of the city, on the edge of lake Ontario. Its presence like the product that it generates mediate between the wild nature of water, and its distribution and cosumption in the city. As the main source of water as a commodity make this piece of infrastructure of major importance. Like its Art-deco architecture would suggest. The design proposal for the Water education centre mimics the ins and outs of the R.C. Harris, gritty solid infastructure, rather than the delicate exterior shell of the plant. As part of the project for the R.C. Harris Water treatment plant includes an aquatic center, allowing the enjoyment of one of the most aboundant resources in Canada and Ontario. Located on the shore of the Ontario lake, itself part of the great lakes the largest source of fresh water in North America and source of the treatment plant’s water intake. The project makes a direct connection between the plant and the source of the water, a visual connection yet clearly separating thes two bodies of water. Fresh water has been purified, elevated, and set apart for human use. The complex also has a clear strong presence, inmovable and dependable. In a manner honoring water distribution for the city. An invaluable resource, strategic for society.



Experimental Constructions.

Steel Frame Assembly, Unedited Project. Madrid. Intern Work at Ensamble Studio.

Pioneering building design and construction. Approached as a 1:1 model and experimental in nature, the project only requires basic hand-tools and no expertise in building construction. Yet it required precision, ingenious and motivation. Fully constructed with prefabricated and re-purposed elments, most of them in steel, make this project rapidly feasable. The building is fully functional and complies with building code standards. As a research project, the building required detailed documentation, and building reports were created and shared on a daily basis.



CĂŠsixdouze

Community & Arts Centre, Toronto In collaboration with Ashkan Nazemi

This is not a building but a set of relationships, between Outdoor and indoor, roof and ground, open space and enclosed space, south and north, sunlight exposure and northern winds. As this projects serpentines trhough the terrain creates and defines spaces indoors and outdoors, summer stages and parks, become ice skating rinks hockey rinks. The roof allows sunlight access in the winter while creating as well shaded outdoor cafĂŠs in the summer. SECTION A 1:500
