GIVING THE BEST OPTIONS When making important business decisions, everyone wants to make choices that fit them best. It is an obvious statement, yet many are forced to settle for less. In the real estate industry, the need for better decision-making is vital for success. This is a fact that Michele Mcilmurray and Brightway Insurance, The Pihl Agency, recognize. “In today’s tough insurance environment, you need a partner who is responsive and has the choices for your client,” Michele says. FLORIDA RAISED Michele was born and raised in South Florida as one of six children. With being one of six, there was never a dull moment for her in those years. “Growing up in a large family you quickly learn how to put other people’s needs first,” she explains. During her college years, she pursued a degree in nursing. “I had my first daughter at 21 years old but still managed to earn my BSN degree in supervision and management from FSCJ (Florida State College at Jacksonville).” “I also knew at an early age that I wanted to be self-sufficient and be successful for my soon-to-be family. Never taking no for an answer, I believe that most things are possible with morals and a strong work ethic.”
FINDING HER PASSION While searching for a career with an opportunity for advancement, she found a position with Geico as a receptionist. “With a passion for helping others, I quickly learned that I should be assisting people with getting the proper insurance protection at a price they can afford.” “My daughter Remi developed salmonella meningitis when she was five months old. This was a very scary time for me and I was so appreciative of the healthcare workers who supported us through this journey. However, during this tough time, I learned that my calling was not to be a nurse. This is when I knew that I wanted to take my insurance career to the next level and become an agent.”

PROVIDING THE BEST After moving to Jacksonville, Michele worked towards becoming a successful insurance agent. With hard work and dedication, she quickly became a top sales agent for Brightway. FAMILY AND COMMUNITY “My family and I are tight-knit. They are my biggest cheerleaders and the reason I relocated here to Jacksonville. My sister and best friend all-in-one, we had our first children two months apart to the day. We wanted them to grow up together, so I knew the move was necessary to make this happen. Just recently, my other sister left the Marines and moved here to work for JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff ’s Office). My mother also relocated to Jacksonville with my two youngest siblings.”

When Mike Rolewicz was diagnosed with stage III cancer in March 2016, his life was turned upside down. Up until that point, Mike’s life was an image of success. He had been running the HR staffing and recruiting firm he founded for over twenty years. He was happily married, comfortable financially, and rooted in his community. Then, the cancer diagnosis came. The next several months were a struggle. He underwent twice-daily radiation to the head and neck and weekly chemotherapy for more than six weeks. He lost around 35 pounds during the radiation treatments, resulting in needing to be put on a feeding tube. A few months later, he needed surgery to remove the final remnants of the cancer. Despite the obvious physical and mental challenges, Mike found a way to make his battle with cancer a positive event.

He took a painful few months and found renewed purpose. “During that time, I thought, ‘What is God’s lesson? Why am I here?’ I knew there was a purpose but didn’t know what it was yet. As I was getting dragged face-first in the mud, I had faith. I was one step closer to remission, one day closer to the old me.” After regaining his health, Mike returned to the office at his staffing company. But as he got back to work, he had a realization: he was not passionate about his work. He was going through the motions, uninspired to create something truly extraordinary. “It was a sustaining lifestyle business. It provided for the family, but I didn’t love it anymore,” he shares honestly. “I was just going through the motions.” After such a close encounter with death, Mike’s zest for life

“Truthfully, I am not worried about the next transaction, I am deeply committed to serving and building relationships. I care that I’m alive and that I have had this chance to reflect and change my direction and do something I love,” he says frankly. “I believe there is no testimony without a test. When I came out of this, part of the discussion with my wife was to get out of our comfort zone. What a message to show our kids who were in middle and high school, to show them if you are on a path that isn’t serving you, don’t wait for cancer to shake you from it. I did this at age 48. You can pivot to a new career. It was a wonderful lesson. It’s never too late.”

Mike and his wife, Natalie, have two children, Lindsey (21) and Hayden was renewed. He knew he had to make a career change and was driven to find work that inspired and engaged him. After some soul-searching and deep conversations with his wife, Mike decided to take a leap of faith into the real estate business. “That battle with cancer encouraged me that I could do this,” he offers. Mike’s draw to real estate lied in the ability to help individuals and families on the ground level of their lives. So, he sold his staffing

business in February 2018, took a few months off, and launched his real estate career. “I was excited to get back to three-foot conversations,” Mike offers. “In staffing, as we grew and the clients grew, the intimacy was lost. Everything was done through a portal. It was all commoditized. I really enjoy relationship-building and negotiating, and we just weren’t doing that anymore.” Mike sold 28 homes in his first year, and he was off. Realizing
the need to scale and getting back to his business-building and entrepreneurial roots, he started his team, the 904 Home Guide Team brokered by eXp Realty, in 2020. Today, the 904 Home Guide Team is a group of four agents and an operations director; they closed 70 homes for over $35 million in the first nine months of 2023. Mike is proud of his real estate success, yet he remains grounded in what is truly important in life — health, family, and faith.

A HEART FOR HELPING SERVICE MEMBERS FIND HOME By Michelle Williamson
After Tina Priest graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University in Georgia in Human Services and a master’s from the University of Arkansas in Operations Management, she worked in several industries. “Being a military spouse, we moved quite a bit,” she shares, “which allowed me to work in several different fields.” Early in her career, she worked with military and Jewish families as a case worker and then with Fleet and Family Support while stationed in Monterey, California. When she and her husband moved back to Jacksonville, she went to work with Hover Girl Properties as their service manager. After three and a half years in that role, she became the Director of Customer Care. Then, Tina decided to become a full-time agent.

When asked what led her to make the jump to becoming a REALTOR®, she says, “I have always had such a heart for serving the military community, which is a huge reason I love working at Hover Girl Properties. Also, being a military spouse means we have a huge network of friends and family who reach out when moving to the area.” Tina also loves “learning and growing in new things.” She also knew getting her license would propel her career forward and offer another avenue to help those referred her way. “I am so grateful I chose to pursue and obtain my license. Each customer I have been able to help find their home has been so special. It truly felt like one more way to grow and be helpful at Hover Girl Properties.
“I loved the idea of being able to help those referred to me find their home here. As a military spouse, I still remember the importance of finding a home wherever we went. Moving was hard, but once I found a place to call home, I was more at ease. Now, I love helping individuals and families find the right place, whether it’s a place to rent or purchase. Jacksonville is huge and has so much to offer. Finding ‘home’ is unique to each individual or family, and I love being able to get to know my customers to help them find the right home.” Though Tina’s husband, Eric, is now retired, he still works for the Navy. “The military community holds such a special place in our hearts,” she says.

THE ROAD HOME
WHAT MATTERS MOST
Tina is a North Georgia native. She and Eric married when she was 21 and a sophomore in college. She put her degree on hold until they could return to Georgia three years later. “We were able to return to Georgia... with a little baby girl,” Tina shares. “Although I had a newborn, finishing my education was important. So, I chose to go back. I am so grateful I did.”
When asked to share a pivotal moment, Tina shares two. “Besides surrendering my life to Christ, marrying my husband, Eric, was the best decision I have ever made.
