Common Dental Problems You Should Not Ignore

It is important to visit a dentist to treat this condition and bring a permanent solution to the problem.

Tooth decay

Tooth decay is also known as cavities and is the second most common problem faced by the people. It is a caused when plaque forms on the teeth. Plaque combines with the sugars and starches present in the food we eat and produces acid, which destroys the tooth enamel. If you have a sweet tooth, you need to more conscious about your oral health.

Gum disease

Gum disease is also called as periodontal disease. Gum disease is an infection that affects the area surrounding the teeth. This is the main cause of tooth loss. There are two main stages of gum diseases. They are gingivitis and periodontitis.

Oral cancer is another common disease among people. According to the estimation of the Oral Cancer Foundation, every hour a person dies because of oral cancer. This serious oral disease can be treated and cured if diagnosed at an early stage. The main cause include smoking and use of tobacco.

There are different types of mouth sores. Cancer sores, blisters caused due to fever, cold sores and ulcers are few types. Until and unless these sores persist for a week or so, there is nothing to worry about, as these are self-limiting. But, if it lasts for a long time it is better to visit a dentist.

Tooth sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is another common complaint. Tooth sensitivity is a condition in which you may experience pain and discomfort while having sweets, cold drinks or ice cream. Some people even find it difficult to brush as they experience discomfort while brushing or flossing their teeth. This problem can be treated by using sensitive toothpaste prescribed by your dentist.

Toothaches

Toothaches are majorly caused due to persistent infection in the teeth or gums. It is important to brush your teeth properly to avoid such pains.

Brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once before going to bed.

Avoid foods that contain lots of sugar.

Avoid using tobacco.

Practice tongue cleaning, flossing.

Use toothpaste prescribed by your dentist.

Schedule regular visits to your dentist.
