Common Foot Problems Related To Diabetes

It is a common phenomenon to observe chronic foot problems when it comes to dealing with diabetes as a health issue. Therefore it is highly recommended to have efficient thyroid care to curb these diabetic issues for a healthier lifestyle in general. A major symptom of long-term diabetes is the emergence of foot problems. Listed below are a few kinds of foot conditions one may develop over time and are highly attributed to diabetic conditions mainly. 

Swelling of the feet

The most common problem encountered in diabetic patients with less thyroid care is an unusual swelling of the feet and the region around the ankles. These tend to be highly painful and are caused by the weakening of the muscles which is a common symptom in diabetic patients. 

Blisters that are hard to heal

Often times, one may notice that diabetic people tend to develop blisters on the feet as well, which in fact take a long time to heal. The excessive sugar in their blood decreases the clotting abilities of the skin leading to prolonged open wounds thus initiating infections. 

Fungus infections of toenails

If you notice that the edges of your toe nails subside into the skin, it is probable that diabetic foot problems have already swerved in. This symptom may cause a lot of pain by cutting into the inner skin of the toe thus creating infection and swelling conditions.




Athlete’s foot

This is a condition arising out of fungus infection and usually results in painful swelling and redness followed by itching, not to mention the kind of infection that it may ultimately result in. This is one of the most common foot problems in diabetic patients and essential care should be taken to prevent the same. 

Hammer toes

As already cited, diabetes causes the weakening of the muscles and the nerves. Hammer toes are one such effect. This condition witnesses the bending of the toe because of the weakened tendons thus resulting in the curling of the toes of the feet. Hammer toes are an obstacle to walking and most often pave the way for the other foot problems. Possible Treatments The treatment in this case varies from problem to problem. Mild infections of the foot require antibiotics or medicines that work against fungal infections. More severe problems my require surgical debridement. Gangrene prevention treatments are available to prevent them from spreading or becoming infected. In extremely severe cases, the foot may have to be amputated. Further relief for foot problems comes from wearing proper footwear or orthotic devices. Hence, it is highly essential to have proper thyroid care and reduce the risk of diabetes for the same. If these foot problems are not treated early, they may lead to serious cases of amputations. Please consult the doctors accordingly for the same.
