‘AS BEAUTIFUL AS THE CHANCE ENCOUNTER BETWEEN A SEWING MACHINE AND AN UMBRELLA ON AN OPER ATING TABLE.’ 1st YEAR STUDIO PROJECT BASIC DESIGN The project began with the selection of a random everyday object and performing various operations on it to develop ways of imagination & interpretation of the object. The later part of the studio comprised of pairing up with a classmate in order to combine the concepts derived from both the objects to develop spatial ideas . These ideas were explored using collage as a medium. The object used for the conceptualization by me was a electric bulb holder. The ideas for the collage were derived from a rubber ball by my design partner. COLLABORATION : VINIT NANIVADEKAR

TRANSECT MAPPING 2nd YEAR ESQUIEE JUHU BEACH MUMBAI The task of mapping taken up by me in the project was people’s moods and behaviors across the transect stretching from the edge of the water to the main land. A few expcerpts are presented here.

HOUSE FOR A MONEY LENDER 2nd YEAR PROJECT TERRACOTTA CITY BISHNUPUR WEST BENGAL The project comprises of a living area and a work place for a money lender in a new utopia, The Terracotta city based on the Bishnupur landscape. The design is a load bearing brick building. The parti comprises of a set of parallel wall intersecting a perpendicular wall to segregate the public and private areas in the house. The utopia permits imagination that moneylending can be an resource for the well being and development of the society unlike the ravaging tradition it has been on the Indian agrarian and rural landscape. The house attempts to create interfaces between the lending and borrowing entities on personal level in the sparsely populated terracotta city by establishing porous edges.

SOCIAL ENRICHMENT CENTER 3rd YEAR STUDIO PROJECT UTTAN MUMBAI SUBURBAN The social enrichment center is an undefined typology in the given context. The program has been developed by studying the local existing infrastructure, occupation, lifestyles and instituitions and amenities of more developed areas. The building is placed right at the base of a rocky peninsula, overlooking the Arabian sea. The building is a large bare concrete volume in which spaces of different character and usage are suspended. The spaces are visually connected and offer a variety of perspectives inside and outside the building. The large concourse and terraces offer a great deal of multipurpose space for community activites.

THANGKA MUSEUM

& EXTENSION TO THE NATIONAL LIBRARY 3rd YEAR STUDIO LANGUAGE & IDENTITY THIMPHU BHUTAN The program of the museum comprises of housing, displaying and preserving Thangkas, murals of an ancient sacred Tibetian tradition and Buddhist manuscripts. The National Library sits on the site. The new building is designed around it, connecting both the phases and creating a courtyard which can serve as a venue for outdoor events. The design language is vaguely drawn from vernacular Bhutanese architecture for a familiarisation of a modern building in a conserved, protected enviornment. The design has two seperate buildings. One being the museum and library and archive extension connected to a enclosed public space; second being the Auditorium.

CBSE SCHOOL

KINDERGARTEN, PRIMARY & SECONDARY 4th YEAR GROUP PROJECT COMPETITION ENTRY AMALSAD GUJARAT The project began with a focus on the nature and usage of learning spaces. 3 types of classroom modules were developed for specific age groups of students based on time spent by the students in a space, their connection with the tutor , with each other and natural light. Each type of a classroom is stacked to make a module which is further replicated with different orientations. All modules are connected by a common corridor. Enough open, semi open and covered space is provided as alternative learning enviornments with the hope that these lead to alternative teaching and learning methods. THE CULTURE FACTORY STUDIOS, THEATERS & CULTURAL SPACES

4th YEAR STUDIO RESEARCH & DESIGN CALICUT KERALA The project began with a rigourous study of the market area in old Calicut. The research generated was then used to produce an argument and a site for the design proposal. The part of the proposal elaborated further here comprises of a multiuse centre comprising of studios, office spaces, research areas, conference halls, theaters , etc. The site is across the sea shore and a sub ground level plaza rises upwards to connect the building to the beach. The ground floor is an open plan and makes free public space available to the visitor at any time of the day. The performance spaces are seperated from the remaining program by a curved concrete wall. A pallette of comprising of local materials :laterite, granite, timber, manglore tiles and form finished concrete is used. RESEARCH COLLABORATION: SUPRIYA GADRE SNEHA WAGH

OPTOMETRIST CLINIC ,SHOWROOM & CONSULTATION SPACE 5th YEAR PROFESSIONAL WORK INTERIOR DESIGN MUMBAI MAHARASHTRA The 14’ x 11ft store space was to be converted into an optimetrist consultaion & examination area, a spectacle showroom and a work space for a consultant and his designer. The proposals revolved around the open plan in which a nook was assigned to the consultant workspace. Despite the open plan, the design attempted at creating specific zones for the privacy of the patients. A stringent budget & urgency to move in led the design, furniture and finishing to be minimalist and simple.
