"If not take everything for granted, everything is meaningful." I am a curious and ambitious student. I always want to figure out

how things interact to each other. I would like to spend more time on identifying and specifying problem instead of get into the

brainstorming to do design immediately. Because I considered that

find the pain point to solve the right problem is more important than rapidly propose lots of design solutions.

Instead of following some well-known design philosophy, I pretend to develop my own one. Sometimes, it’s easy for us to figure out what form is designed to represent or imply some particular

functions. But, imagining to put the plates and cups with different

depths and widths in sequence. The container with what depths and widths would make us to judge“That’s a plate”and“This is a cup”. Where is the boundary between the plate and cup? This is really

interesting to me. Playing the boundary on the object I designed and exploring the new possibilities of object is goal to me. Though

unique perspective and re-define the problem of issue to propose the new solution. This is my design philosophy.

_Vertical & Horizontal

Size: 504x581x237mm Material: American cardboard Through the negative space between the massing trying to guide visual traffic flow of the viewer “Vertical and Horizontal is the first project after entering SCID. Through this project I know the importance of precision and the beauty of ratio.

Touch

_Plus +

Size: 170x370x500mm Material: American cardboard The goal of project Plus is to choose two objects and use their shape to express one relationship. For example, lock and key could express one -by-one relationship. Though this assignment, I gradually learned how to pick objects’ lines, and make the model.

Analyze + Deconstruct ! The two objects chose by me were scissors and paper, by capturing the lines of scissor blade and the handle, I tried to use rationally straight lines to express the scissors itself, and used organic curve, express the soft of paper. A single point contact of two different massing, as the real moment scissors cutting the paper.

Micro AT-AT _Brace Size: 1020x1020x560mm Material: Acrylic, cable, steel Using toughness of the cable this brace would be real steady after the user sit on it. I named this object after Micro AT-AT because the image of All Terrain Armored Transport (the vehicle in STAR WARS). My design could change the length of cable to adapt different terrain.

The brace was the last project in first semester. The chair must be a brace, but the brace is not necessarily a chair. Finally, I could’t break the image of the chair. But at the aspect of visual effect, the change of the MDF to acrylic created a contrasting effect that looks dangerous but actually safe.

Ripple

_1:1

Size: 1300x250x1500mm Material: Aluminum, cablesteel, Light Bulb

In the swing between the light and shadow try to express the emotional myself, but in the end of swing will s till be as ripples generally return to calm. Use the refraction caused by light p ass though the water produce the spackling effect, and through the stable balance caused by the spring tension and the Earth’s gravity to achieve the effect like the tumbler. 1: 1 was the first project in second semester rafter a winter vacation. This project in the development process is actually quite smooth, and also continue the experience of the cable, made good use of the c able. Eventually, made a structural work.

Clarity v. Mystery

_Designer’s trip

Size: 500x80x400mm Material: Aluminum, MDF, Acrylic, Steel Transparent structure, black painting, and lens constitute the main body of this project. Express the beauty between clarity and mystery. With the precision laser cutting characteristics, I design some screw holes, creative similar structures of the tenon. Transform two-dimensional plane into three-dimensional modeling. The development of this project was not conducted as smooth as usual ones in the past. I considered that real problem maybe I traveling with no issues, and I eventually decided what to do before final presentation. I wanted to express transformation between the sense of clarity and mystery with two different materials.

Observe Everthing with Different Perspective

Exoskeleton Raptor .ver _Locomotion Size: 965x620x1300mm Material: Aluminum, Steel I tried to break the first impression of the locomotion “wheel so I would not use wheel in my locomotion. I chose the raptor foot bionic construction and used the square aluminum tubes to constitute the skeleton part. Simultaneously, I use the spring and tension to simulate the extensor and flexor (two different muscle) to achieve the effect of buffer. Although aluminum was lighter than steel. But I found that long force arm would make the user hard to manipulate. Finally, I decided to change my locomotion into wearable device.

I was looking forward about the locomotion since I enrolled into SCID. Although this big project cost me about 7000 dollar s, comparing to my classmates it was still cheaper. Otherwise, all mechanical work in this project was made by myself so I could more easily control my schedule.

Invander-X _Coffee Machine Size: 200x180x450mm Material: Aluminum, PU

Create New Experienc

Before design the coffee maker, I did the research about the market analysis and the target audience of Lexus. Though the research, I realized that the target audience of Lexus were people who with high income , high social status and unique sense. Thus, I decided to design the coffee maker to meet their taste and requirement. Although I can’t really use the design language of Lexus well on my design, I tried hard to use the bold spirit of the brand. I separate the boiler and the bottom of the machine and use the classic “Spindle Grille shape on the frame.

Kick-Lock _Bike Stand Size: 350x40x450mm Material: Aluminum, PLA

In affordance design I considered that designer observe the user behavior and then solve the problem before it happened. At this project, I observe the user journey of the bike rider. I propose a new form of the lock that could lock the bike when the rider kick down the stand.

Discover Unconscious Behavior

Hunter-U _Skateboard Bag Size: 450x200x80mm Material: Fabric, Stainless Steel This is a Rapid Design in one week. I select the people who enjoy use board to conduct short distance moving. With this bag they could take the board more conveniently. I really enjoy the Rapid Design process. During the process, I learned the new knowledge every day. Also, this is my first time use the fabric to design product. It’s a tired and happy experience.

International Workshop “Slowness Wins. An Offbeat Race, SCID Prof.Uta Brandesand and Prof. Michael Erlhoff The goal of this workshop is to design a device (can be any form) in one week. More over this device need to move as slow as it could be. There are five groups in total. Finally, if the distance of device move the shortest, the group would be the champion of the workshop.

Dimension 2

_Color Rambler

Size: 1030x130x330mm Material: Acrylic, Litmus paper, Steel Designed a device to move as short as we could was the goal in this workshop. But my group stepped back and pondered that why must be something with the wheels. Thus, we designed“Dimension2” used the vinegar and the litmus paper to make the “color” move instead of three dimensions move. Change the color of litmus paper with acid-base reaction and make the color move through diffusion.

International Workshop “Think Wrong, SCID Prof. John Bielenberg Think Wrong: to blast away from the status quo, changing things from how they are to how they might be. Six Think Wrong practices guide you to overcome the biological urge toward group-think and the ROI-focused obsession with safe-think, so you can achieve game changing solutions and real impact.

EMOTIONAL COMMUNICATION FOR US

DESIGN PROPOSAL STARBUCKS is a place where people gather together and enjoy their time. In order to acheive our challange, we want to create an opportunity of starting a conversation. Our idea is combining the splash sticks with a simple match up game. We provide a splash stick with each cup of coffee, there will be a letter ”U”or “S”on the top of the stick. If you get the one with a “U”, you will need to find someone with a “S” to complete the “S” hole on the lid. After matching up, the two of you could go get a buy one get one free coupon from the staff. Maybe you and your partner will become friends.
