About Me I have recently completed my bachelor's degree in Architecture at the University of Sheffield, and am now looking to take on new challenges and experiences on the way to establishing a career in my degree discipline. I would consider myself to be a hard working and enthusiastic individual, always with the desire to develop my existing skill set and continue learning. As well as my studies, I have spent the last eight years working in a host of employment roles, many of which were high responsibility roles in high pressure environments. Through these experiences I have learned the importance of teamwork, using my initiative and working to deadlines. My employment experiences have also equipped me with great organisational skills, patience and empathy, and a desire to offer a quality of service which exceeds expectations.

Design Aspirations For as long as I can remember, I have found myself spellbound by historical buildings, whether it be a derelict Victorian hotel or a Gothic cathedral of epic proportions. This passion was further ignited two years ago, when I began writing my dissertation on the architectural evolution of Victorian pavilion plan hospitals, and in particular -Birmingham Children's Hospital. My dissertation, for me, did not stop once I reached the deadline date. I have continued to expand on the research undertaken during the course of the study. I am now in the process of organising a number of events in association with the Birmingham Hidden Spaces Project, in which I plan to highlight the architectural significance of Birmingham Children's Hospital and the importance of its preservation. The proposed audience includes amongst others, the Mayor of Birmingham, the Chief Executive of the hospital, and the Chair of the Birmingham Civic Society. Over the course of my career, I wish to develop this interest in architectural history by being involved in projects which concern the challenges of designing alongside historical buildings. My other passion is medical architecture. During the course of my employment within the hospital environment, I have developed, from a user perspective, a sense of what successful medical architecture can achieve, and what difference this can have on those who spend most of their waking hours within the walls that we design. On the other hand I have also personally experienced many examples of medical architecture which impact on patient care and medical efficiency in a negative way. It is my ambition to use the knowledge I have acquired to help design spaces which not only promote efficiency and good working pracitce, but also comfort and a positive user experience.
