RESEARCH 2012 Petrobrás Training Program Human Resources - PFRH, IFRN Topic: Solid waste management in Construction Advisor: Joana D'arc Resume: Overview on solid waste management in the city of Natal, assuming that the Construction is one of the sectors that generate debris that carelessly promote environmental, social and economic impacts on a large scale. It seeks to identify which forms of reuse of rubble, existing rules on the allocation and handling of materials and finally how these measures are being implemented.
2013 Habitat Contemporary Studies - EcoHABITAT, UFRN Topic: Public spaces and urbanity: the urban design contribution to building healthy cities Advisor: Verônica Lima Resume: The aim is to bring professionals of Architecture and urbanism and Public health in a multidisciplinary discussion on the quality of life in contemporary cities and how to intervene in the city. This includes urban projects that demonstrate a greater concern with the quality of life of the citizen population, and proposed intersectorial management to think the city as a locus of health promotion and urbanity.

Conception of series plans through the use of graphic geometry tools. The idea was to use the archs concordance to make a curve contour, alluding to the piano form. With these tools is possible to creat diverse models to buildings or furniture.

BEACH HOUSE Period: 3rd (2012.2) Team: Jayne Pereira, Carolina Sousa and Renato Gomes Subject: Architecture Project 01 Coordinators: Thiago Brito
Design of unifamiliar residence located in a deluxe condominium near the beach. The program includes 4 suites, one office, gourmet kitchen, living room, TV room, garage, laundry area and maid. The land has dimensions 25 x 12.50 m. In designing the project we sought to prioritize aspects of comfort, turning areas of greater permanence to the direction of prevailing winds as well as releasing the afternoon sun, reducing the amount of radiation received in these ambients.

Was proposed the visual identity of the condominium, with signposts of bathrooms, psicina, games room etc. The theme alludes to the marine environment, with the concept of Natal which sits at the edge of the continent, representing the pier. It’s formed by lines with the colors blue and yellow, representing the sea and the sand.

GROWTH
LOCATION
Was analysed a section of the neighborhood Areia Preta, which is separated into 2 zones: one of turistic interest and another of social interest. The growth evolution shows a densification on the land, and also the union of lots, characteristic of intense speculation in the region. The analysis of occupancy certifies the majority presence of trade and services buildings in the areas near the sea. Based on the Kevin Lynch’s Landscape analyse method, the team prepared a script of questions to interview residents and 2013 bystanders of the neighborhood, in order to create a map of EVOLUTION expression of the collective image, and see what are the icons and what can be done to improve the environmental quality of the place. Most of the people said to improve the infrastructure, security and restrict the speculation. Moreover, they said to keep the icons like the church, the market, the public spaces and the life in community.

PLAN SITE MODEL
Regarding to the research of the needs to the Areia Preta neighborhood, was proposed a Community Center which includes services like social, legal and psychologicyal assistance, library, classrooms, plotter, auditorium, refectory, creche and large living areas. This space would be opened to the community and integrate sociocultural activities. Was used protection elements to the facades exposed to sun CENTRAL SECTION throughout the day. It has free access to both the streets above and below levels. Furthermore, offers parking to automobiles and bicycles.

The project purpose an intervention in a Zone of Social Interest, including a social habitation of low cost and an improvement on the public spaces to enchance the quality of life. Was designed furnitures made of native reforestation wood and landscape treatment with species adapted to the region climate conditions. Furthermore, was drafted a bike path on the wide roads, speed tables with crosswalk and a bus-stop in front of the housing. The terrain has a huge steepness, so the buildings was located in levels to be well positioned regarding to the sun path and natural ventillation. Was created a central area on the same patamar with pillotis.

At the beggining, our team made volumetric studies of the building form on the terrain model, to choose the best position and orientation to the buildings, the public equipaments, access and vegetation, based on simulations of ventilation, sun path analysis and the topography conditions. The housing is composed of leveled buildings of four floors, totaling 98 habitation units. Each unit has 55,2m², and has an expansion ambient to use the way the family wants. Was used big windows to promote well natural ventilation and iluminance. The construtive system used was drywall and prefab concrete structure, to a rapid construction.

DISTRICT OF GUARAPES GLEBE
PROJECT LAND
The purposed project intend to create a social hosing condominium into the program ‘Minha Casa Minha Vida’ of the Federal Government, considering environmental qualities that are usually ignored in the developments of its kind. The team discussed what strategies would be used to implement good use of the abundant natural resources in the region (natural ventilation and lighting) to reduce the consumption of electrical energy in homes, reducing the cost to the residents. It was adopted a minimum distance of blocks required for permeability and still achieve a reasonable number of dwellings. Similarly, the geometry of the buildings was arranged to take advantage of the natural slope of the terrain (19 meters), and is conducive to the solar path, minimizing heat gain to the interior of buildings.
13
Based on the project decisions of the architect team, were made studies about the performance regarding to the ventilation and insolation. It was found that most of the housing units is benefited by the natural ventilation from the south and southeast directions, with cross ventilation. The shading elements protect during peak hours, and the buildings around the times when the sun is over the horizon.

RURAL MILL ARCHITECTURE Period: 3rd (2012.2) Team: Full team Subject: History and Theory of Architecture and Urban Planning Coordinators: Clewton Nascimento and Luana Cruz This product was proposed by the professor to compile the informations about the rural architecture present in an important city, known by the mills that improved the economics of the state about the 18th century. The team explored diverse aspects about the fabric complex, local history, site plan, systems and materials and constructive details used in that period. The rural mill architecture comprises the Big House, located on the highest place of the site, to promote the visual control. Aside has the chapel where happens the religous celebrations. And then, the mill where were made the products: sugar, cachaรงa, treacle and others. The colonial architecture style comprises masonry wall, round or segmental archs on the window frames, and doors with two leafs enabling its opening only at the top, assuming the window function. Gathering all this material was produced a website and a video. http://memoriamipibu.wix.com/saojosedemipibu
