Teenage relationships are known to be rampant among the youth. High school is also a great stage to begin relationships such as these. But what exactly is a teenage romantic relationship? Is it a trend or a plague? A boon or a bane? First let us tackle what becomes of early romantic relationships. On the bright side, we have to regard that almost 80 percent of people have already met their future spouses at the age of sixteen. Starting romantic relationships at a young age can be beneficial, since it helps you create social bonds as well as know how to navigate a romantic relationship. It also might lead a person to know his/her partner for a longer time, and tackle the idea of marriage with a more prudent mind. But, these relationships are usually prohibited by parents and guardians. Why is that? Aside from years of experience with romantic relationships, elders know the extent to which the youth has gone astray from moral values. Teenage love usually leads to ruined reputations, disgraced family names, teenage pregnancy, broken hearts, and unreachable dreams. They know the potential of their children to achieve success, and all sorts of distractions are deemed bad. They know how people get affected during

Ready for K to 12 On Point

Jhzeel Tagupa

The K to 12 Program covers 13 years of basic education, a 13-year program is found to be the best period for learning under basic education. It is also the recognized standard for students and professionals globally. What does this mean in practical terms? It means, for one, that by this upcoming school year, schools would have to find extra classrooms, restrooms, teachers, textbooks, etc. to accommodate the new Grade 11 population that should have gone on to freshman college studies in the earlier setup, but which would now remain for another two years in the school. The old school system replaced by K-to-12 leaned for decades on the annual turnaround of graduating students to make way for incoming batches from the lower years to use existing school facilities. Since year 2014 the head of Fatima College of Camiguin has been getting ready For the new curriculum K to 12. Due to the implementation of Senior High School (SHS) which will be use in SY 2016-2017 the school have been undergoing improvements to attain the requirements to the innovation. There have currently been constructions of buildings, newly acquired books, hiring for skilled teachers specifically for grade 11 and 12, teachers sent to training programs to enhance and fully equip abilities, school equip for specialize skills, and many more needed changes for FCC. Though they are also facing problems if time will be enough to fully prepare the development. The main problem would be because of senior high demanding such needs in short period of time. Senior High School is two years of specialized upper secondary education; students may choose a specialization based on aptitude, interests, and school capacity which the school must provide. The choice of career track will define the content of the subjects a student will take in Grades 11 and 12. SHS subjects fall under either the Core Curriculum or specific Tracks. Facilities such as rooms, chairs, books, should be readily available during full implementation for the K to 12 program. As long as everyone is continually working for the new curriculum, problems will be solve. Attaining development will be finish in due date. Are we ready for K to 12? Time will tell.

he world wasn’t made for us; we were made for the world. This is clear that though the world is in the peak of technology, as product of science served as tool in making our life easier and less manual. Yet, the world isn’t a wish granting factory. Problems are always there to keep our feet in the ground, just as people with diseases such as Ebola, a lengthy battle with human consciousness, victims of the universe’s need to make and unmake all that is possible. As of 2014, 6 out of 10 people suffer from Ebola virus. Ebola virus disease (EVD), is a disease, an infection which is caused by Ebola virus. It is also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever. This pandemic disease came from Zaire, Africa. It exists mainly because of the nature carriers which are fruit bats. People who get Ebola virus experience severe headache, internal bleeding of the body’s systems, body pain, sore throat, vomiting, irregular bowel movement, fever and the like. The ones

who are likely to get this disease are those workers in the hospitals and laboratories, for they are more exposed to contamination such as body fluids including saliva, blood of the infected organism and the patient’s contaminated needle, pillows and blankets. But Ebola is not considered an air-borne illness. Ebola virus is a great impact on the society. It became a source of discrimination and divergence towards people. Until now, there is neither vaccine nor medicine to cure those who have EVD. As a community, we should have unity although we may never understand these illnesses; in fact we may never cure it. But an ounce of prevention is worth more than an ounce a million pounds of cure. Such ways to prevent some are to not let ourselves be exposed to contaminations, infections and the virus itself. We must have self-discipline. It is not only we that we need to be taken care of, but also our environment for either we like it or not we still

ecember, as known by the World Health Organization is Cancer Prevention Month. Due to the fact that 14.6% of human deaths are caused by cancer, we can see why a whole month is dedicated to the demise thereof. But is cancer really the killer? What is it really? Cancer, also known as malignant tumor or malignant neoplasm, is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. There are over 100 types of cancer including lung cancer, breast cancer, cervical, prostate, carcinoma, lymphoma, and among oth-

ers. It is a lifestyle disease. As observed by doctors around the globe, the increase of cancer cases is widely due to the lifestyle changes of the new generation. 22% of cancers are caused by tobacco and cigarette smoking, and 10% due to obesity, while the remaining percentage comes from the angle of heredity, environment, or alcoholic beverages. Older age is also a factor, but this might also be because of longer exposure to carcinogens. Abnormal bleeding, change in bowel movement, new lump, unexplained weight loss, weakness and pain are

are in the mercy of nature. We must be able to fight the challenges and hardships in this life, let our weaknesses be our strength. To do the aforementioned, it’s a need to keep our body healthy so to be wealthy. Hopefully, the numbers that count the people who cure in risk of this virus may not rise but rather fall. The world is in a need to keep its balance. We live in a world full of interdependence, of awareness. The world

wants to be noticed, like Ebola Virus, it is not considered the bad guy for it only wants to be alive… we all are. Knowing that we only live once, we must not waste time and opportunities because not all can get this kind of life. Especially those who have Ebola Virus Disease do not even think to throw away a single chance and just live life to the fullest because after all, it’s not the years in your life that counts, but the life in your years.

It’s not the years in your life that counts, but the life in your years.’’ among the signs and symptoms of cancer. It can be transmitted through direct personal contact, sexual intercourse, bodily fluids, heredity and polluted environment. It can be treated through radiation and chemotherapy, also through surgery. But although there are treatments of cancer, it is still a must to apply prevention because there are no treatments for regrets. Many cancers are prevented by not smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, not drinking too much alcohol, and by not doing unnecessary things that are inappropriate for our health. We must try to wrap our heads around the concept that cancer isn’t the murderer, but the cause of the cause is

truly the cause of the evil cost. Our lifestyles are the true killers. As human beings, we have the capability to be aware of the things that surrounds us and makes full responsibility of them for us to merely survive. In the life we create for ourselves, it’s just easier for cancer to use our bodies rather than giving control over to us. Ultimately, cancer is not the evil tumor taking over our bodies, but was the dormant suicidal being woken after we chose to have unhealthy lives. It’s not that we are helpless, but we are just giving cancer a better ability to win, and with that lever-

“Transformation is a process, and as life happens, there are tons of ups and downs. It’s a journey of discoverythere are moments on mountaintops and moments in deep valleys of despair”

E

veryone knows change is the only thing that is constant. This is LIFE- a never ending cycle. Everything undergoes a lot of various stages in each life aspect. Life as a school, and as school as life, both have phases to be undergone to help shift gears for growth, development, maturity and for the capability to walk and handle responsibility in real life. The journey through elementary years has ended, and so another journey has started. An absolute metamorphosis. HIGHSCHOOL Four years of growing up and probably a time in our lives where we go through the most changes. We are our own witnesses of that. We were able to discover our own selves and found out who we are as a person. We met people all along the way, gained true friends whom we treat as our own sisters/brothers-in-another-mother, our respective section which we found like nothing but a family; the people who were there always, no matter how thick or thin yet have managed to stay all the way. Everything that had happened came for a reason, even though some of them were not likely as what we expected but those things brought us together , to what we currently have become. 7th GRADE:Freshmen, I remember. We may not know a lot of people when we started high school. A lot of newborn transferees, new faces, new classmates, friends and “hot-seats”, new classroom, teachers, lessons, and new experiences. Everything was fresh for all of us at Fatima which meant adjustments. We didn’t even know the upperclassmen. It was kinda hard to let go of the yesteryears; some of our friends from elementary went to other school or belonged to another section, that we may not be able to share the same room and experiences together but what’s wrong with something new, right? Everything was awkward and quite nervous at first, and we were clearly observing, noticing and checking each other out, doing things in any way we seem fit. We had created impressions and judgements. Some of us had already formed our own kind of group, and some weren’t even close to each other, barely talking to each other. I remember myself in these times wherein I’m not really interested in others’ company as long as I have Lady Marie and Kinth Lee with me. We weren’t very participative to the school activities which lead us at the bottom of the food chain but we had started doing things we thought was difficult yet easy and small things and yet they’re great. Moments I will always remember were the Desiderata and Mapeh days especially during Arnis times and Ma’am Analeah. It wasn’t so bad after all and it’s just the first single step towards a journey of a thousand miles. We expected more to come. There’s always more to come. 8TH GRADE: Sophomore, the stage two. . After learning to fit in with the people and culture around us, it’s then learning what made us different from them. This involved trial-and-error, ex-

perimentations, more about self-discovery. We tried things including Ma’am Aguhar’s Biology class, all the laboratory moments. Some of them went well, some didn’t. We began to ran up against our own limitations. Then there were things, we’re just bad at or just don’t like them like Algebra and we were trying to work them out,, or not. We were still learning what we suck at. Socially, we were doing fine. St. Cyril, our section had a reputation of “mga puwag sampot” because there was a time, oh let me rephrase , there were times when we were changing rooms because of what was happening to Ailyn(We miss her). I won’t state the whole thing, WE already knew what it is. I also cannot forget how Chella and Ailyn were throwing pickup lines from each other to Laurence and how Ailyn cried at the cr. Things were getting better. We got closer to each other though each had his/her own circle of friends. 9th GRADE: We were finally an upperclassmen. We were already one of the role models for the lower grades. Normally,we were already used to the stuffs inside school, we managed to get on with the routines and all. Some students from the other section were transferred to ours, whom we unexpectedly got close to. We had another new classmates. We also started new things such as party music, rave, and such for the good. Life had come to the Theresians. There are really people whom God planned for us to meet and be part of each other’s lives. We got closer than before. Then, true colors were starting to show off wherein we merely accepted each others’ flaws and embraced each imperfections; we did an open forum which slowly changed each of us. Time pass,we started to do things together, from that which, we created a bond. We were helping each other, messing out and having fun. We began very competitive to the other years especially the 4th year who were threatened to us “daw”especially when it came to competitions. So much more has changed during this grade. In the middle of the school year, Sister Cecile Marie Lim became the new directress of the school whom changed and improvised FCC with more disciplinary and religious principles and restored life back into the school.I was thinking no one could ever forget the 3x4 haircut of the boys. Strict but right. It’s getting better and better. One thing I cannot forget, (I’m not trying, either) was the Intramurals. It was the best so far from 7th grade, not fully be-

cause of the reason that we(JOHANINE) won but because of the things we’ve done and the feelings we got from our experiences. The one lesson I caught is “to focus on the journey and not on the destination. For Joy is not found in finishing an activity but in doing it.” It’s not mainly whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. It’s all about having fun, taking

fun s e r i o u s l y. A lot of new things started off such as the BSP movement wherein they started to include girls as boy scouts. It was great to be part of the BSP, so many unforgettable memories and unimaginably fun experiences, all worth the first times. Another great time that we’ve had was the JS Prom. It was very a pressure especially to us girls, we’ve been thinking of what

Someone’s Mercy Restores The Lost By: Shannen Bacor “A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just” Mercy is just a simple word that is mostly heard by everyone whether rich or poor, strong or weak, black or white or by fools or wise men. Living in Christian-oriented nation, having a deep-anchored understanding about mercy is must; for it is known to be a powerful weapon that could change lives, fix lost souls, renew broken dreams, and banish dark imaginings. The church celebrates the Holy Year of Mercy, which is a time of grace, joy, conversion, and peace. It is meant for everyone, people of every age, from far and near. We should always remember that the church is hospital for sinners and not a museum of saints therefore, it is open to everyone from all walks of life. There are no walls nor distances that can separate us from Our Father’s Mercy. It is a special bridge that brings us closer in the hands of God where the good people and angels dwell. In today’s lives, lights and shadows are always present. Nevertheless, the saddest truth reveals that lights are decreasing while shadows are rising in just one blink of an eye. The world is filled with despair and chaos. The absence of peace is slowly dominating our homes. People are out of control. Everyone has planted anger in their hearts. The sparkles and shines in our world can’t be seen anymore. These happenings broke the Heart of our Creator. Never lose hope someday it will be okay though the skies are turning gray. The Parable of The Prodigal Son. It begins with the younger of two sons begging his father to give him his share of the estate. The father executes the son’s request by dividing the property between them and gives it to his youngest son. The youngest son then packs together all of his belongings and leaves his father’s home to live in a distant country. During the son’s time away from his father’s home, he lived his life immaturely and spent his money living a wild life. The son lived this way until a famine hit the country and he had no money left from his inheritance. He does not go back to his dad because he thought he had disowned him for his actions regarding his inheritance and his departure. Therefore, the son is forced to work as a swineherd feeding pigs. The amount of money was so small that he barely had enough to feed himself, and he found himself envying the pigs and thought of eating their repulsive grub. Coming to the point of wanting to eat with the pigs the son had hit rock bottom, and then he finally realized he needed his father and started his journey back home. His father was overjoyed that his son had come back home and barely let his son get a word in. The son tried to explain his sorrows and was asking for forgiveness, but his dad was too excited that he called for his servants to prepare a celebration for his son with fine clothing and a fattened calf. How can we practice mercy? Where can we get mercy? Oh mercy, where art thou? The Bible is like a mirror. At first we look into it and think that we are reading stories about others. It is interesting to see how they are portrayed. We may chuckle at their antics or shake our heads in disbelief at their stupid ways. But the longer we look, the more we begin to notice that those characters in the Bible look more like us! Gradually, we begin to realize “That is me!” The Parable of The Prodigal Son is like that mirror. At first it just seems like an interesting and touching story. But the more you look, the more you begin to see your own heart either in the prodigal or in his older brother, or in both. This story is the best example on how God infinitely extends His mercy towards us. No matter how sinful we are, how big we disappoint Him, how cruel our hearts may be, if we spare time to ask forgiveness and mercy, then mercy is the power that is intrinsically ours . God never gets tired of forgiving, it us who gets tired of us asking forgiveness. Many people had suffered burdens, hatreds, sorrows and had their skies turned to gray. I wonder if all of these difficulties can be mended into something that is worth the happiness. As far as I know, it’s never too late to repair something and someone that was lost and damaged. Daughters and sons of God, we should not let this continue to happen. Let us relinquish our time to restore the lost beauty that God gave to every human kind. As Christians, it is our duty to respond to God’s call to take care of everything and everyone that is under the sun. However, without any action none of these can be resolved directly. Words are not enough. Actions must be two steps and one inch taller than words. Solving this kind of problem requires perseverance, integrity, interest, ambition, courage, hard work and most of all mercy. How can we attain mercy? In Matthew 5:7 it says, “Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy” There will be no mercy if you are not merciful to your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. But if you have been merciful, then God’s mercy towards you will win out of over his judgement against you. The Bible promises blessing for people who can mirror God’s mercy. There is always that “special someone” who could transcend and arrange us into something better and new. “Someone” who always stays even if everyone leaves. “Someone” who inspires people to do good deeds. “Someone” who can be the source of strength in times when we are weak. “Someone” who has the power to restore what’s lost and “Someone” who never gets tired of loving and forgiving. We are so lucky and blessed if we recognize and keep this “Special Someone” in our hearts. Keep in mind that mercy is the source of our Christian Identity

SG Officer

L

Last March 2015, Fatima College of Camiguin welcomed the newly elected set of officers for the Supreme Student Government school year 2015-20216. These officers namely Megan Charisse C. Montaus, as president, Archelle Therese Pabillore, vice pres., Maria Eloisa Ranoa, secretary, Jan Viena Marie Aguiman, treasurer, Mandela Vie Wong, auditor.....have been recognized and entrusted to lead and serve the student body, with brave hearts and kind souls. Students were thrilled to experience the governance of the new leaders. These leaders were to prove their capabilities, to stand for their position and to be the change they want to in the institution. Today, their duties and life as an SSG is at its end. Its been a great voyage, a roller-coaster-like year and a very delicate, memorable experience one could ever imagine in high school life. A little detail will do to give you the privilege to wander through the “Life of an SSG” SSG #8 I was running for a position in the student government. I was terrified of how big and difficult the responsibility is, but took the opportunity to run. The results came out and contentment restored in me. Congratulations were exchanged, new set of officers were welcomed and I was glad. Glad to spend my last year here at FCC with not so much work and worries, enjoying every moment and savoring the remaining year of my junior life. Summer came, enrollments were on going. As I walk from the cashier to sign some papers, I heard my name being called. Then I saw ma’am Aguiman hurriedly grabbing my hand then asked “Naa kay ballpen, lou?” curiously I answered “Naa ma’am” The next thing I remembered, I was already sitting at the basement in front of the school directress, with the familiar faces of the new set of officers genuinely smiling at me and Inday Aguiman handing me a notebook. There, my life changed.

By: Senior SSG Officers 2015 - 2016 and jamming like Camille and Inday, as chikadora like Ali and Rose, as sweet like Malou and Mary, as cheeky and mischievous like Malae, as small and terrible like Geal, as responsible like Archelle, and finally as hardworking like Megan. Through ups and downs of thus school year I know I can count on them. I’m glad I gained a new set of family. SSG #14 There is no doubt that being part of the Supreme Student Government demands a lot of time and energy from the officers. The high standards, extravagant events, huge responsibility and discipline don’t come out of nowhere. However, there are some task that can be a bit entertaining; for instance, looking after late students. This has become a daily task for us officers, though it may sound effortless and easy... its not. There are some days when my fellow SSG Rose and Alli would run around the school to try and catch late students who refuse to go to their line and pray the rosary. I remember how frustrating it was when these students wrote a different name on the log book instead of their own. How they would pretend to return their bags and promise to come back but never did. Those days when we have to use our intimidating looks so that they would take us seriously. But on the other hand, guiding the late students isn’t as horrible as you may think. Because we are able to create a strong bond between ourselves and these students. Its funny how we remember the names of the students who were constantly late, even if we don’t intend to. The casual “Nganong late na mn sad ka?” conversation. And the knowing look they gave us when they knew they were late yet again. Now that the school year has come at its end and the need for our service are no longer needed, I just want to say that this is what I’m going to miss. Not the task... But the friends I made while doing it. It has been an enlightening and memorable experience for me and I hope the SSG for school year 2016-2017 will experience the same. Good luck.

SSG #01 SSG #99 “Mav, kuhai satong tarpaulin beh?” “Aha gan- “Dili nalang ko mudagan, wa man silay salig ing ang mga papers mav?” “Mav, adtoi sa kay naay nako” I never really thought I would just eat my own reklamo” My first Intramural as an officer, everything words despite all the doubts and all their hesitations felt different. I wasn’t used to it. There were tasks to which led me to believe that I’m useless. I remember the sad look I gave to a just a passive thing and I may not get this opportufellow SSG as she cried out nity again. So I gave myself a chance of stress and anxiety. I reand maybe now I should be better. SCOUTING

S

NEVER STOPS the day and the day before. The five days and four nights camping started apparently with a parade followed by an opening program which included introduction to the different councils who joined along with the cheeering of their yells. On the following days, there were a lot of activities done. Camp Craft, Camiguin Trail, Elementary Survival, and Face the wave with a special event called Jamboree-on-the-air were among the highlights. I may not have countless experiences or more to share my time as a boy scout for this was just my second (and unexpectedly the last TT) encounter of being in a BSP camping but I had moments to be cherished with, moments that also greatly made a change to what I thought life would be. It’s nice to have experienced outdoor opportunities, high-adventure, to have a bonding with nature, away from the Internet or books and just being nurtured while having fun. In Camp Craft, we learned more about making monkey bridges, tripods applying the different knot tying we already knew. It brought about the addition of practical knowledge on how to deal, use materials for resiliency such as rope and a fountain of basic skills in other woodcrafts in order to survive. Fire building, water boiling and cooking egg using a tripod made to stand at the river’s water were some struggles we found during the Elementary Survival. We had a hard time making fire and keeping the fire because of the water and wind yet with everybody’s cooperation in our patrol, we still managed to had it done (thanks to Scout Welfred) and had a taste of our cooked egg. We also had our trail across the river, and uphill with various tasks

chools are out, the weather is warm, bodies are exposed, pools are open, and fruity drinks flying... It’s SUMMER indeed. We had off from school and could live our little lives, spending our summertime any way we saw fit. You could imagine people riding bikes, getting barbecues, watching children play and eat ice cream, the sweats of various players after playing their ballgames in summer leagues, a group of men in their boats with nets in their hand to go for fishing and see families together with friends on a picnic either on the beach or at the park. Some might just in their respective homes probably doing the housework or just chilling. Others who love the outdoors, might be on a hiking, perhaps going on a camping. Well, whether or not you’re asking me, for us boy scouts, we chose the latter one. Early in the summer, the Boy Scouts of Fatima College of Camiguin actively participated in the Eastern Mindanao Region Summer Advancement Camp 2015 last April 7-11. Instead of tank tops, bikinis, trunks with only bare feet on, what would be witnessed are uniforms: black shoes, a pair of khaki polo and pants buckled with issue belt and a carabao slide in the neckerchief worn by the Outstanding BSP. The numerous scouts came from a different school from a different city but were united together as one from EMR at Catarman, Camiguin Province. Catarman National Elementary and High School served as campsites for the meantime. We, the Camiguin Council and the other councils temporarily resided at the elementary school where we cleaned up our respective campsite on

Surprising. Dumbf o u n d ing. Astonishing. Eye-opening. Jaw-dropping. If I were to describe in one word all those memories we have back then, it would be memorable. It sums up all the chills, the thrills and the excitement we felt. Now let me share to you my own experience in this event. *Flashback* It was a sunny morning when we were all gathered together to prepare for our adventure. “Isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat, lima, anim, pito, walo, siyam, sampu! Handa na pooo!” We all shouted in unison. Oh how wonderful it is having smiles from every single faces. Seeing my fellow fatimanians wearing this brownish attire with a red scarf hanging in their neck gives me the satisfaction. As you can see, it was not an easy task for me and to the other girls. It was a BSP activity, an activity for boys. But we were given the privilege

and challenges involved in every station. It might be tiring, but despite of the summer heat and dust, we kept on moving forward, still finds fun in anything even through struggles, for that’s what a scout is; still smiles under all circumstances and with that we finally overcame the stations. And the thing that I won’t forget that we, Camiguignons were late at one afternoon was Face the Wave. We were literally facing the wave doing push-ups in the sand under the heat of the sun which I was confused if it’s a punishment or a warm-up or both. We thought that was it. But it wasn’t it. We were divided to two groups: the swimmers and none-swimmers suited with life vests. The agency taught us what to do whatever circumstances may happen in the water, to help people whenever they get into accidents. We were educated how to face the wave of what incidents may happen, for us to help ,to swim like our lives depend on it and not what we first thought, of literally just standing there facing the ocean’s wave. We also shared our talents during the talent night, had our share of campfire and made friends from across different councils during the socials. The breath taking sites of majestic mountains, the inland wilderness, the camaraderie with the other scouts; unity inspite of the diversity,, ,the delicious cooks , Jayvee playing on the piano that made us sleep, the long talks and long walks going to and from Dinangasan River for a bath, on that which I’m always proud of telling my family and friends whenever we pass that bridge, the balot moment with Lj and Malae, the precious moments I have shared, mingled and the time spent with my

to try and to show what we’ve got! As we were on the road, we all had different stuffs. Some are taking photos, some are busy uploading their statuses on facebook and on instagram and some are busy applying lotions in their skin, mosquito repellants to be exact. Well I’m one of them. I’m excited, we all were. It isn’t my first time to have adventures on places I can’t even imagine would exist. But somehow deep inside me, I know this event would be a lot more different from the others. After a long ride, we arrived at the end of the road. We started to hike up to the mountains. We started to walk and walk and walk for miles. The temperature is getting colder. The trail was too small. Two persons wouldn’t fit in. An extra careful is a must. One false move and you’ll trip. It felt like, it would never end. But I was just exaggerating. We reached our destination, of course. The temperature is far different from the everyday temperature we had in our town. It even had fogs. When you looked at it, an idea of being suffocated would crossed your mind. But it wouldn’t. It’s harmless. The place was like a “Little Baguio” for me. Well, it looked like one. Then there, I thought our adventure would end. But it was just the beginning. As we trailed up, we encountered our greatest enemy. We

co-scouts especially my Century Tuna patrol and among others were so valuable and worthy to be always remembered and kept in the heart. I do well hope many boys and girls will get to have this kind of experience because that’s what Boy scouts do: they go on adventure and make memories forever. BSP movement involves life-lessons with a bonus of fun. Encouraged to educate ourselves than being instructed. In it, I can see myself clear, that being a girl involved some skill. That as scouts, we are clean but not afraid to get dirty for the sake of others. It improves us to be better persons making better changes in the future. You see, life is not as easy as what we thought it is. It has a load of works, full of trials and challenges. Life is a rollercoaster that goes up and down. Scouting is an instrument that helps us prepare to hurdle and face obstacles in real life. In enables us to have enough confidence, of enough courage and kindness to take on any challenge. It is a foundation of building character; to be able to know oneself and develop what’s good, commit and then practicing it. Time will pass and I may not going to remember every single detail and the kind of badges one may have, but I’ll always remember the BSP code “Be prepared” (Laging Handa) wherein a scout is never taken by surprise; he knows exactly what to do when anything unexpected happens. Whether dressed in uniform or not, once a scout, always a scout. Scouts are catching. Just as what we often say May the great scout masters be with us. Till we meet again... For that I know, SCOUTING NEVER STOPS.

called it “Alimatoks” I hate this little creature. Our “kuya” slash our tourist guide said, it would suck your blood out and it will not stop until it’s satisfied. You would not also feel this little creature touching your skin. You wouldn’t even noticed if it’s already having it’s festivity. I was totally paranoid. I don’t like the idea of being one of the victims of alimatoks. So I consciously checked my pants and my sock every second and every step that I took. How paranoid right? But I survived! I almost got attacked, but I didn’t let him win. When noon came, we all helped in preparing our foods. Pritong isda, pancit, panlasa (toyo and suka) were the dishes. It’s “KAMAYAN” time. We all enjoyed it. Laughters were all that you can hear from us. You can see the happiness drawn in our faces. But Ooops...... There’s one more thing. Going home was the best part of all. It was 4:30 pm when we decided to return home. We used the “shorcut kuno nga dalan”. But the funny thing was, I thought it would be a lot better if we took the trail we had when we entered the mountain. If only we knew. Why? Because eventually in the middle of our “shortcut kuno nga dalan”, not knowing about what’s gonna happen next, we encountered a lot more challenging things. It isn’t about the little crea-

ture anymore. But it’s a about the slippery and the dangerous trails we’d took. Seriously? Shortcut? It doesn’t felt like one. It was already dark. We spent hours just for us to find our way out. The moon and the stars can be seen clearly in the sky. I can assume that we were stucked in the middle of the jungle. Cellphones and flashlights were used to lighten up our way. I’m not afraid. I’m not frightened. I wasn’t. But I’ve felt the pressure on my shoulders. The things that were running on my head keeps on bugging me. “What if something bad will happen to us? What if one of us will get lost? What if we can’t go back home? What if we can’t find our way out?” All those what if’s were killing me. But I have to be strong. I need to be strong. Cause that’s what a real scout is. I would like to thank the person who invented that “shortcut kuno nga dalan.” You totally made this activity a memorable one. Thank you for letting us experience the hardships that really tests our capabilities and our strengths. I also salute the scouts who survived those unexpected trails. And I would like to thank myself for not letting me drown with negative thoughts. I survived. We survived. I congratulate all those students who joined this activity! I bowed down to you. We nailed it! Definitely, we conquered it all.

emember that girl who wrote Dear Crush last year? Yeah, that’s me. See, I really thought that I was going to give up. In February, I tried talking to another guy, and he was really great too, but he just used me to get close to one of my classmates. In March, I focused everything on studies, and even got the top place again. In the summer, I deleted every little part of that guy who broke my heart a thousand times in a thousand different ways because i wanted to be happy. I deserved to be happy. I started spending a lot of my time talking with guy number 2. He was nice, he was cute, he took my mind off the fact that yes, I was still broken inside. I didn’t really understand it because... i had no right to hurt. He (guy number 1) was never mine, but losing him tore me apart. For goodness’s sake, i didn’t even know why i liked him. Then June came. 2 started distancing himslef from me. I wondered why. His kind gestures faded into the background. He wouldn’t call anymore, he wouldn’t text, he wouldn’t chat, and he wouldn’t even talk to me in person. He used to walk home with me, but then he just stopped. Yes, it hurt. I thought he liked me because he told me he did. But that’s the biggest lie all boys say; I LIKE YOU. Sure, they’ll mean it for a couple weeks, but they’ll just get tired of liking you. Or at least, that’s my what my experence has taught me. One July day- the feast of sister Rosario- 2 took my hand and made me hug him as he sat on the corridor. I thought he was finally coming back to me, and that maybe his actions showed that he was just busy in the past month. How wrong, i was. That afternoon, as i was headed up to the CR, i saw 2 with flowers. He waved them at me with a smile. I even thought for a split second that they were for me. Then he gave it to another girl. I physically felt pain shoot up my chest. I went back to my classroom, forgot about the whole thing, and studied. On the Saturday after that incident, my phone rang with 2’s number. I didn’t pick up. But after a few more weeks of missed calls, I picked up, we became friends, and then he challenged me to a game. The game called FFUL- Fall first, You Lose. It said we could do anything to make the other fall in love with us, and the one who fell in love first would lose. I agreed to the game, because i knew deep inside, that i could not fall for him again, and my heart still belonged to someone stuck in lang syne. Then it was August. I realized that the day i first ran into number 1 was coming up. A whole year... and we haven’t even spoken once to each other. How odd. So on the 21st of August, 7 days before the anniversary of that day, i messaged him “Hi.” Surprisingly, he actually replied. “Hey.” He typed. And then it all started. Guess who got sucked into the horrid cycle again? Then, a few weeks later, while 2 was holding my hand in band practice, i realized something. I couldn’t stay like this. Win or lose, i couldn’t hold someone’s hand without wishing it was 1’s. I couldn’t look into 2’s eyes without wishing he was someone else. So i decided to end the game. I texted him that day, and he didn’t reply. That night, after band practice, he talked to me in room 1 and he tried to kiss me. I pulled away and walked to the guardhouse. That was the last draw. I won. Few weeks passed, and my birthday was coming up. That Saturday before my birthday, i challenged 1 to the same challenge i got from 2. Again, he surprised me when he said yes. He said that he could beat me, because he made me fall in love with

him once before. He said it was impossible for me to make him fall, because he had a heart of stone. He even wished me luck and said i better have the brains and the charm to woo him. On my birthday, i found roses on my seat from 2. At lunch time, 1 came up to me and handed roses too. I wondered why they even bothered. A month passed without much communication. 2 was giving up on me, thankfully. And 1 was busy with festival practice. The night before he went to his first practice, he told me that 2 was lucky since he wasnt around. I didn’t get what he meant. After the Lanzones festival, 2 was nonexistent and 1 seemed to not care anymore. I didn’t know if the game was still on. I really din’t understand. 1 would turn cold all of a sudden, and there would be days without any communication at all. I didn’t get it. One night i told him the game was over, that i had lost, and that i wanted to give 2 another chance... and i actually meant it. That was the first day of the intramurals. He said it was “too bad, so sad for me of course.” because if i gave 2 another chance, he was sure the second guy wouldn’t make the same mistake again. I hated what he said. He acted like he didn’t care and then he typed words like those. Lastly, he typed; MAYGANI HUMANA. He stopped talking, chatting, texting me. He didn’t look at me. He didn’t even regard me when i bumped into him on the same hall i bumped into him a year ago. It felt like all those late night conversations, all those long calls, those weird texts wherein we would just talk about anything... was all a dream. Two days passed, and i tried to not think about how he treated me. I cried, though. I cried in front of a dear friend with her camera, with a younger friend near the murals, with a friend who had blond hair, and with a friend who had to Ms. in her name. I cried. Why? I didn’t understand at that time, but maybe it was the fact that i had so many things going on at that time. I had a disease with no cure, i had results to an exam that i was worried about, and then there was this guy who i have loved from that moment in the hall- the same guy who has broken, fixed, and broken my heart again and again in a million different ways. Then Friday came. That was when i was crying the hardest. I wanted to go to PEA, but the woman there wouldn’t let me in because i apparently was wearing shorts. I cried at the church, and asked for all the pain to be taken away. I cried until sobs wrecked m body and my eyes turned red. I went back to school that afternoon, and saw 1 with a one of his friends. He said my nickname “ND.” I looked at him for a second, looked down, and walked away fast. Double M comforted me near the fire exit of our classroom, as i cried my eyes out. When the worst went away, i went to the CR, but before arriving there, K (a girl) handed me a blue towel that smelled very nice and told me “Ayaw na pag cry cry ate hah?” I still cried. When i went to give the towel back, i stayed in K’s room and talked with them about teddy bears. Then he came in. That sunday, he told me the 3 words. And that Christmas break, he proved the meaning of those words. Yes, I loved him too. And now, I’m writing this, knowing that he will read this when I am no longer at the same school, when i am no longer running around and looking for him, when i no longer stand where i used to stand, and when i am no longer the one who looks for him. But i will always be the one who loved him first

A Beautiful Disaster

I thought i have walked On grass that was broken But it was just a heart Shattered by words left unspoken

By: RMAE

On the day we met, I thought we were meant to be. Like our fate was set That you were the one for me.

“It’s just a crush.” That’s what I say. But it’s turning to “Love” when I see you day by day. When I look into your face, My heart had began to race.

I have loved him so Yet he loved not me And in his eyes, Another one, i see So he ran for her Ran away from me And left my heart broken Right at my feet

The blood in my veins Was the blood on my feet I thought i found love But in it, i found defeat

I thought we could have something. But it end up into nothing. As days goes by, all the memories has gone. And all I wanted to do is to cry and run. As I followed your stare, Pain strikes because It leads to her. My tears badly wants to fall and It’s making my visions blur.

Nobody

Why?! Why did you let me fall? Why did I let myself fall?! Knowing you don’t have time to catch me at all. I’m lost in confusion.. Too tired of this stupid illusions. Tell me. Please tell me. Am I that easy to forget? Because even though it hurts, Loving you I did not regret.

by: Kitkat A simple kind of blessing That makes my Heart sing Adds color to my world And joy that no one can afford

And it is just by your simple Actions I can’t imagine the pain When I saw you with your main But I can’t do anything For we don’t feel the same thing

I became your lover And for you I’m just a stranger I smile for you gave me reasons

How I wish you wanted me The way I wanted you But there’s nothing I can do For I am just nobody for you.

Words

by: @$%^ Back in August when I was sitting in the lush Grass You were so flawless, I was feeling this kind of rush When I saw you right by her side, I was crushed You made a promise, to treat me like a goddess I wish it will rain in the forest To wash my doubt and turn it into calmness

You were completely dishonest Nothing breaks more than a broken promise Maybe they are meant to be broken For our eyes to be opened That many words spoken is just a fake promise

ENDED

By: Miss Moving On She is the girl who cries to herself at night The girl who wishes to be at your side She always stares at you at times when you’re not looking Your smile also makes her smiling She saves dates of her special moments about you What she writes there, oh boy, you have no clue. She walks the same pathway just to see you And when she doesn’t, her heart feels sad and blue Her feelings for you has been 2 years and 8 months And for all those times, she didn’t even had a chance.

She was by: 0000 She was young, she was free She was the same old as me Her smile was so big, so bright Like in the dark with only one light She laugh so hard you wouldn’t see How lonely inside was she She look fine, she look okay But little did I know it was only just a façade Cried at night, smile at day I thought she was happy and gay I thought I know her, she was my friend

But then she was like a secret with no end Then one day she was gone They said she ended her life I didn’t know I didn’t have a clue Now I’m stuck of thinking why? Why the once happy girl had to die And then I realize Maybe it’s time to say goodbye To my friend who pretend And she was

There once a time that you said “Hi” What she felt that time made her so high And starting that moment, you always greet each other When she talks to you, she sometimes stutter. But all of those are now gone Everything has to end even though it just begun You had a misunderstanding And sad to say, it led to ignoring. Everytime your gazes meet, it’s not the same anymore Now, you don’t even greet It’s not like before You don’t know how hard it is to just walk pass by She acts like she doesn’t care and that she’s fine. It breaks her heart thinking that everything has changed now But she thanks you because you made her very happy somehow So, she guess it will all end here No more sadness, no more tears. SHE’LL TRY TO FORGET YOU AND BE HAPPY SHE KNOWS THAT SOMEDAY, SHE CAN MOVE ON FROM YOU COMPLETELY.

OLYMPIC RINGS

TRACK AND FIELD

Baron de Coubertin is said to have seen the five rings on an ancient Greek artifact. The rings symbolize the unity of the world’s five continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas). Every national flag in the world contains at least one of the five colors.

Track and field events were the core of the ancient Olympics and included running, throwing, and jumping, which combined into multi-event competitions—the pentathlon (five events) and the decathlon (ten events). Today, track and field also includes pole-vaulting, hurdling, and relay racing.

ANCIENT OLYMPICS

WHAT MAKES A GREAT ATHLETE?

The ancient Olympics celebrated the god Zeus and were held every four years at Olympia, Greece. Winners received an olive wreath. The date of the first Games is unclear, but the first recorded Olympic champion was Koroibos, who won a sprint in 776 BC.

Great athletes, like all great sports competitors, require fitness, dedication, natural ability, and luck. What lifts some athletes above others is a relentless will to win, psychological strength, and the capacity to produce their best performance under any circumstances.

In the 19th century, archaeological discoveries revived interest in the ANCIENT OLYMPICS. The Greeks tried to recreate the Games in Athens in 1859 and 1870. However, the major force behind the modern Olympics was the French aristocrat Baron de Coubertin (1863–1937). In 1894 he organized an international conference in Paris to support a revival of the Games.
