Jazz at the Priestley - Autumn Programme

Page 1

04/12/09 ‐ Convention challengers and Jazz terrorists The Shakedown Jazz Band roll into town with tunes you’d never dream might be ’bopped’ ‐ Paint it Black, Paranoia, Whole lotta love and more plus their own reworks of jazz classics and as if that weren’t enough ‐ a bloke singing, proper‐like ‐ “Heavens to Murgatroyd” as my Mother used to say on occasions to be distinctly marked ‐ with Steve Chadwick: trumpet, Kenji Fenton: tenor sax, Andrzej Baranek: piano, Nick Blacka: double bass, Hugh Lawrence: drums, and Paul Bytheway: vocals ‐ ‐ strap yourself in and feel the “G’s”. A visit to www.myspace.com/theshakedownjazzband is strongly recommended! 08/01/10 ‐ Bringing in your New JATP Year, widely regard‐ ed, highly respected drummer, Dave Walsh brings his brand‐new quintet. The line‐up is yet to be confirmed but is likely to include Pete Hughes: piano, Richard Hammond: bass, Iain Dixon: sax and Lee Mullen : perc. ‐ all to be confirmed but Dave picks his tunes and band‐fellows carefully and thus I do believe we are in for a rare and most pleasurable jazz experience

16/10/09 ‐ JAZZ EXTRA with EXTRA JAZZ ‐ How would you describe the heavenly yet seemingly contradictory musical delights of 2008 Yamaha / Classic FM Scholarship winner, Ruby Wood and Jazz Towers of Power, Elements ?? How about “a rare and beautiful JAZZ EXPLOSION simply not to be missed !!” for starters? We await your descriptive contributions in this regard. Be Early! 06/11/09 ‐ 6 pieces of Silver with Louise Gibbs combine

their undoubted musical and seemingly clairvoyant talents to transport Horace Silver to JATP with James Lancaster: trumpet, John McKillup: sax, Zezo Olimpio: piano, Paul Smith: drums, and Paul Baxter: bass. Keeping all these scamps in order is Louise Gibbs: vocals of distinction
