CLAS ANDERSSON Clas is a true native “strannare” despite being born in Göteborg. He was brought up among the rocks in Bohuslän. To become a chef was a natural choice for Clas. In his younger days he worked at the classics, Charlies in Kungshamn and Smögenbaden. Back in Göteborg, he ran a legend, Restaurant Viktoria. When he returned to Bohuslän it was Bryggcafét he came to. Later he became the head chef at Bella Gästis, Kanten and Hummerkrogen in Hunnebostrand.
THE CULTURAL FOOD HERITAGE is a Society that collects recipes before they are forgotten. The recipes comes from food loving people around the area and old hand written recipe books. On their webside www.matkulturarvet.se , the recipes can be found as well as information about local producers. A cooking book with local food has also been published.
Locally produced food AN EXPERIENCE THAT WETS THE APPETITE
Clas Andersson has always worked with locally produced ingredients. Earlier on this was often called ”good foods” and behind this expression were products from the sea or land without long transports and absolutely fresh. This is what we today refer to as locally produced. During his many years as a head chef, Clas took
pride in using locally produced high quality ingredients as far as possible. We will join Clas on a flavourful journey around Sotenäs to find locally produced food. Our first stop is The Klev Farm just outside
Bovallstrand. The Christensson family have been doing responsible farming here since 1921. Among other things on the farm there is a barn that houses 6000 free-range laying hens. Fresh eggs are for sale in the farm shop as well as the rape-seed oil produced on the farm. Fresh fish and seafood have put Sotenäs on the map
and are well known all over the country. Many large fishmongers offer top quality delicacies from the sea. Clas has opted to visit one of the smaller fishmongers, Hartvigssons Fish and Shellfish in Kungshamn. Bengt Hartvigsson catches a large part of the pro4

duce for sale in the shop from his own fishing boat LL677 Ocean. Incidentally, the boat is moored in the harbour just outside the shop. – It is not difficult to prepare nice food when you have the pantry just around the corner, says Clas and with a smile he looks impressed with the supply available at Hartvigson´s fish store. Crayfish, fresh Smögen prawns, fillet of cod, halibut and other delicious species of fish. Everything is super fresh. Lilla Glassverkstan is located just outside
Kungshamn, opposite Johannesvik´s Camping. The Rokicki family produces a most wonderful icecream. It is all produced using local ingredients in the small ice-cream factory. There is also a café outside as well as an area for the children to play. Our road trip continues to Kustcharken in Askum.
Locally produced freshly aged meat, home-made sau-

sages and charcuteries. Kustcharken also have a smoke house where you can leave your own meat to be smoked. Most of the meat for sale come from farms close by. The animals are never more than two years old when they are slaughtered and the environment in which they were bred is very important to us. Free-range all year round and as much grass as possible. The meat is aged and cut at the plant and the variety of meat is seasonal. Among the varieties found are lamb, moose, wild boar, deer and a few others. Smögens Whisky, despite
the name is located just outside Hunnebostrand. They produce a
first-class whisky as well as a highly appreciated gin.
And in our seafood restaurant, right next to the sea, we serve good tasty food.
At the Stenungsbageriet in
Lyckan, sour dough bread is baked in a traditional way using a stone oven. A meal without tasty locally
produced potatoes lacks something. The Stensjö potatoes are known for their exceptional quality and are well-known in the area. Rödsgubben in Lyckan farms
strawberries and they are for sale at the farm. A nice strawberry café can be found here as well.

Smögen & Hållö SO CLOSE AND YET SO DIFFERENT
JAN RIPPE He is of the Galenskaparna (a famous Swedish entertainment group) who came to Smögen at the age of five. Together with his wife Elisabeth he has several business activities here and they do plan to move to Smögen permanently. His father, Thorbjörn Rippe, started the Hållö Friends Society.

Welcome to Smögen &
Fabulous rocks, salty swims, nothing but water between you and the horizon. Contrasts. Just a few minutes away. Crowds of people. Meetings. People. Smögen has a strong appeal. Intense in the summer. A retreat for the mind and soul the rest of the year. – One can fall madly in love with the nature here.
The barren rocks, the sea and the dense neighbourhoods with typical wooden houses, says Jan Rippe, a comedian and singer. He came to Smögen 55 years ago and the family became part-time residents. For Jan, Smögen and Hållö are self-evident. A must. He loves the summer buzz, the busy street life. Lots of activity in the family´s boathouse and shop. – I do love this place even more during the off season. During the autumn, winter and spring there is a wonderful tranquility here, says Jan, who likes to walk on the craggy rocks, regardless of weather. – One is like a small dot in the universe. One feels the primordial force and sees the elements meet. The immense sea. The barren granite stone. Take a deep breath and feel alive. The magical Hållö, just a short boat ride away southwest of Smögen, has a special place in Jan’s heart. – Hållö is “my island”. I got married to Elisabeth there and I think we were actually the first couple
ever get married here. Our youngest son was christened here and we have many beautiful memories from Hållö, says Jan who has also taken part in sing-alongs on the island. Throughout
the years he has befriended many locals and when the family started a gallery/shop on the island and became business owners they got an informal approval of the Smögen community. – If you make an effort and the more you get involved in the community, the more you want to raise and praise Smögen. Jan and his wife, Elisabeth, are planning to move here permanently. – To us Smögen is, its people, the dialect and a sense of belonging. You end up wanting to spend more and more time here. Take the opportunity to speak with locals – it could be the beginning of something totally new. The result could be that you never want to leave. This is exactly what it was like for Jan and his family.

Kungshamn
AT THE TIP OF THE SOTENÄS PENINSULA ANNA-KARIN DAHLSTRÖM Runs a gallery, is a partowner of an interior design shop in Kungshamn,. Loves everything local and walking preferably with a dog as company.
8
Welcome to Smögen &
The setting, surrounded by the sea. The boats, the boardwalk, the boathouses in Fisketången and herring barrels. Service and shops, available all year round. In Kungshamn everything is close by. Everybody greet each other. Anna-Karin Dahlström has lived here most of her
adult life. This is where she always returns after exhibiting art all over the country. – Kungshamn. This is home. The ambience, the salty sea water and the clean air. Everything is within reach. One can walk from one part of the village to another in less than fifteen minutes. The best place to park your car is in the large car park next to the sports hall. Just walk down Nygatan to the centre and return by Hvitfeldtsgatan. Walking is the best way to explore Kungshamn according to Anna-Karin. – Everybody says hi when they meet, regardless of whether they know each other or not. You are never anonymous here and this gives you a real sense of security. She enjoys walking along the sea front or in the charming alley-ways of Fisketången with the old worn boat-houses. However, she thinks it is a pity that so few people have discovered our beautiful parks. Why not bring a picnic basket and enjoy the park in Fisketången, the park by the Community
Centre or the Bäckevik Square. The parks are natural meeting places and you will always find someone to chat with. Anna-Karin, very enthusiastically mentions the
local community´s hard work and perserverance in local matters and especially in helping to organize the October Fair which is held annually during the half-term school holiday. It is a fair where the local companies, societies and the municipality meet the residents, both permanent and part-time. – The great diversity is wonderful and we are so proud of all the things local. There are so many great ideas and happenings. Everything can be found here, she says and concludes: – Clearly we hope these efforts will have the effect of attracting people, young and old, to move to the area. The Fair is a way of showing that we are a powerful community and that we stick together. – The only things we do not have are queues.

Hunnebostrand AN ACTIVE COMMUNITY
KJELL ANDERSSON “Klevens Kjell” is born and bred in Hunnebostrand. His roots go back to the farm Klev in the neighbouring village Bovallstrand. For nearly 45 years a lot of people know him as the harbour master or as a local politician. He is constantly engaged in local matters, the rich history of the area and social issues in general.
Surrounded by three craggy rocks and embracing a natural bay in the harbour. The result – a vital Hunnebostrand with beautiful houses and a rich history. Everything becomes obvious when culture gives depth to experience. – In Hunnebostrand we have some of Sweden`s
best preserved boat-houses. It is a treat to walk around the picturesque areas around Strandgatan. So much history is hidden behind the walls. Kjell Andersson knows it all. He is devoted to the place, its people and their destinies.Quarrying commenced in Hunnebostrand, shortly after it was initiated in Bohus-Malmön. – The stone has shaped the area through the ages. This is especially noticeable when visiting the shoreboulder by Hunnebo Klåva, the mounds of stones from the bronze-age close by, the Stone-cutting museum and the new Geo park just a stone´s throw away, says Kjell. The harbour is the heart of the village with the
boat-houses and boats. Wonderful opportunites to go swimming can be found on St. Görans island and in Hästedalen. Not to be missed is a stroll around the sculpture park initiated by the sculptor Pål Svensson. – Hunnebostrand has an active Community Association. They want to preserve and develop what we already have: an active community with restaurants and shops that are open and attract visitors all year round. This will, of course, also benefit our permanent residents says Kjell. 10
Welcome to Smögen &
One of the things they have set in motion was to develop the sea-front walk from Ödby Island by the northern inlet of Sotekanalen to the neighbouring village in the north, Ulebergshamn. A beautiful nature trail about four kilometers in length with information panels along the way. Wherever one turns, there are marks from previous
generations. The stone-masons distinctive marks, the shipping ports for the large cargo ships, the herring fishing in the 18th century, the paving stones from the 19th century and the oil produced by the tryworks that lit the streets of Paris are some of them. The swimming arena at Hästedalen attracted Olympic swimmers and other elite swimmers in the 1930th. The open air dance floor was an obvious meeting place for many decades. – Knowing the history and getting a feel of the occurances of the past in a specific place brings one closer to that place presently. It is a completely different experience that comprises depth, concludes Kjell Andersson and encourages visitors to climb the slopes of one of the surrounding mountains, Skalberget, North or South Högeberg. From here one has a magnificient view of Hunnebostrand, the cliffs and the horizon of the open sea.

Bovallstrand IT IS EASY TO BE ACTIVE HERE
ULRICA IFWER has lived in Bovallstrand all her adult life and has left her mark on the village through the highly appreciated restaurant Bryggcafét which the family started more than thirty years ago. She runs and bicycles around the area as an active member of IK Granit.
The green and white bathing huts on Badholmarna. The square, a place to meet and chat. The boat houses. The harbour, the sea and the rocks of the archipelago are eye catchers. Bovallstrand is a classic idyll. – The sea is so obvious. For me, the very special
thing with Bovallstrand is the closeness to nature says Ulrica Ifwer who often puts on her running shoes and sets off for a run around the trail, Soteleden. From Bovallstrand, the Soteleden is within easy reach with various sign posted trails. It is perfect for walking as you can catch a loop and come back to the starting place. Along the very varied trail, picnic sites, huts for overnight stay, ponds, beech woods and an adventure trail can be found as well as a magnificient view of the wide spread archipelago. On a clear day, Väderöarna in the west and Smögen in the south can be seen. Running along the trail is perfect. On Tuesday
nights in July, the local running association IK Granit, organises the very popular Honeysuckle Run. Both young and old as well as elite runners participate in this event and run between one and eight kilometers together. Afterwards cordial and cookies are served says Ulrika. Being located close to the E6, Bovallstrand makes a good base for exploring the area more closely. To 12

stroll from the square towards Badholmarna, the bridges on the small islands and the wooden diving tower. – Badholmarna are quite unique. The bathing huts, the atmosphere, the swim, the young and old as well as a small kiosk in the summer. Mornings and evenings, ladies and gentlemen dressed in bath robes can be seen rushing down to the sea for a refreshing swim. For the more active, out-door yoga and aerobics are available. To be active is easy in Bovallstrand. – Not to be missed is Stensnäsvallen, maybe the most beautiful sports ground in Sweden. Like a golfing green located by the sea. When Ulrika tries to summarize the soul of the neighbourhood she mentions an active community, the school, the shop, the small businesses and the door manufacturer. And, of course, the location. – So much is to be found here. Close to famous tourist attractions like Smögen, Fjällbacka or Grebbestad for example. Though you do not have to be part of the excitement with crowds of people all the time. What you find here is tranquility.

Bohus-Malmön FOR A MEMORABLE OUTING SET IN GRANITE
GUNILLA JACOBSSON Has been running the Bohus-Malmön boarding house for the past ten years together with her partner, Patrik Larsson. When she has time off work, she takes her bicycle and heads to the smooth rocks on the island´s west side.
A barren place with a very destinctive atmosphere. An active community with lots of happy encounters and nice people. It is difficult not be affected when you come to Bohus-Malmön. Many describes the feeling of letting go of tensions
already in the queue to the ferry and when arriving on the island you enter a different mindset. Gunilla Jakobsson and Patrik Larsson, have settled in a place which they always dreamt of. They have spent a lot of time and effort through the years to make the island´s boarding house into a meeting place on an annual basis. For over night visitors, trekkers, weddings, guests of the restaurant and youngsters in confirmation camps. – Bohus-Malmön has a wonderful nature, perfect for hiking at all levels. There are great walking trails. It is so easy to get out and about. Walking along the paths, just by the sea or on the smooth rocks one really gets close to nature. The fragrance, the wind and the people. There are lots of things going on in Bohus-Malmön.
The harbour is popular with both boating visitors as well as restaurant guests and strollers. One supermarket is open all year round and in the summer there are even more shops. 14
Welcome to Smögen &
With the great involvement of locals, part-time residents and various cultural personalities, the wonderful stage Stallebrottet has emerged as a stage for music and drama. – The stone cutting history takes a great leap into the future. This is an excellent example of the powerful local community. Swimming and enjoying water activities are maybe
the main reason for visiting the island during the summer. A nice hot summer one gets the feeling of being abroad, maybe around the Mediterranian. Go to the the nice sandy shores on the east side are where you enjoy wonderful swims and the beaches are well-protected from the wind. On the west side, the sea and the sun strokes the smooth cliffs. – Bohus-Malmön shares the same wonderful environment with Smögen but is more tranquil, concludes Gunilla Jakobsson.

The constantly changing scenery adds to the thrill.
One moment you will be gazing out over the western archipelago where the briny sea splashes against rocky island and shortly thereafter you will step into magical places in the forests. Pine and fir grow together with deciduous trees among bogs and heather covered moors. Rocks and cliffs provides natural and exhilarating climbing walls. The Soteleden trail runs along Sweden´s west coast
between Bovallstrand in the north and Smögen in the south, about 140 kilometers north of Göteborg. The trail commences at Åby Säteri in the east and extends the coastal villages in the west. The trail is divided into around 20 different stages. The trail is sign posted with blue and white route markers. 18
Welcome to Smögen &
Another long distance trail, Kuststigen, is also indicated on some of the trail signs. If you want to spend the night on the trail there are shelters and simple huts that can be used free of charge. You will find them on the Soteleden map. This map can be purchased at the Tourist Offices in the Kungshamn, Smögen and Hunnebostrand. In 2013, a new walking trail on Holländarberget,
named Smögenleden after the nearby village was mapped out.You have a fantastic view of the archipelago with its myriads of rocks and cliffs. Further away, behind it all, is the stretch of the horizon, a rare view you can not enjoy in many other parts of the world. More information is available at: sotenasturism.se

SEE & DO A fantastic recreation area
Enjoy nature
Delicious taste Meet the wild Nordens Ark is one of our most popular attractions. Here you can meet endangered species from parts of the world with the similar climate as ours – 80 different species like snow leopard, otter, wolf, amurtiger, red panda and many more. The zoo is open for visitors every day around the year. www.nordensark.se
You are certainly in the right place if you fancy seafood. Fresh prawns, lobsters, crayfish, cod, salmon – prepared by our professional chefs for your enjoyment.
You can enjoy the fresh, salty air and the crystal clear water in an exotic landscape of barren but yet smooth, inviting, flat granite rocks. The ocean with its strength and beauty surrounds the landscape and is always present. You will enjoy nature at its best in our fantastic nature reserves. Beautiful, with inland ice polished granite rocks and mixed with heather and a unique vegetation. Do you want to walk in a varied nature, then you will surely enjoy “Soteleden” – a 70 km long walking trail with exquisite nature and wonderful scenery.
Interesting places nearby From Sotenäs isn´t it far to other “pearls” in Bohuslän. In Tanum you can visit Vitlycke hällristningsmuseum. The rock-carvings of Tanum belong to our world´s culture heritages. And Kosterhavets Nationalpark, which is Swedens only marine national reserve, is not very far. If you choose to go south from Sotenäs you can visit “Havets Hus” in Lysekil and in Skärhamn the famous “Nordiska Akvarellmuseet” .
On the sea The sea offers activities of different kinds: A swim in the salty water or why not experience the sea by sports- diving. Sotenäs has one of Sweden´s absolutely best diving waters with a rich and varied fauna and astonishing waterformations. And yes! You can of course charter boat tours of your liking – archipelago tours, seal-safaris, deep sea-fishing.
Something is going on In the summertime one event is replaced by another. There are concerts in restaurants, pubs and in churches. There are guided tours, historical walks, auctions, fleemarkets, sportsevents, tennis, golf, regattas and motor sport. In the tourist office you will find all the information you need.

Welcome to Smögens Hafvsbad Mindful of the past, but firmly in the present! Smögens Havsbad, one of Sweden’s most dramatic and beautiful hotel-, conference- and SPA-hotels, is situated here. Smögens Hafvsbad was inaugurated in 1900 and became the last watering place on the Bohuslän coast. Barons, factory owners, directors, court dentists, violinists, colonels and actors were all regular visitors to the spa. They came to breathe in the pure air and swim in the salty sea. Today we treat our historical heritage with respect and affection. We take great care to preserve the spirit of yesteryear, in a modern facility that offers guests every amenity imaginable.
SPA
Trust your first impression when you enter our SPA. Here you will experience the calm, the clean and the classical in harmony with nature and the blue light outside. Here you can also enjoy our pool, jacuzzi and sauna. You can, of course, also work-out in our gym or improve you suntan in our sunbed.

THE RESTAURANT
If you think a wonderful view adds value when you are at a restaurant – then congratulations! You will have a marvelous view of the sea, rocks and what tends to be a dramatic sky in the evenings. Our chefs are fortunate to be working with products that would make their colleagues jealous. The result is incredible!
