Select a site on either the courtyard directly outside of Batmale 246 or on the hillside, adjacent to the courtyard. CollaboraOvely design and install full-‐size work that respond uniquely to the context of site; and is not general and arbitrary in nature.

MATERIALS Used
CONSTRUCTION Process WEEK 14
Unable to develop a specific design, we decided to purchase materials that we knew would be used to built the final project. We purchased 10’ long 1 ½” PVC pipes along with 90’ PVC connectors and 3-‐way PVC connectors, as these are versaOle materials which could be used for numerous designs. Since nobody in the group had a truck, transportaOon was very tedious. During this Ome we also began cleaning the site, turning it into a suitable space for construcOon.
CONSTRUCTION Process WEEK 15
At this point we sOll have no final design agreed upon by all the group members. We decided that instead of wasOng more Ome arguing about the final design we would go ahead and begin the construcOon process by cunng the PVC pipes into 2’ long pieces. We also connected some PVC and see how it form. This further reinforced my realizaOon of how hard it can be to work with a group and develop agreement and unity.
CONSTRUCTION Process WEEK 16
The deadline for the compleOon of the final construcOon is looming, but we sOll can’t find a consensus between the group members. There has also been a conflict with a different group over our proposed site locaOon. At this point, we decided to give up on creaOng a final design altogether, as it seems to be impossible. Instead, we simply began building, hoping that would lead to a design we could all accept. We successfully built the frames and blocks using this method and began to progress further into the final design.
CONSTRUCTION Process WEEK 17
In finalizing construcOon we placed seaOng to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for spectators. We also wove the sides and the top together to give a connecOon between the columns and the curving walls. We used fabrics to show the differenOaOon between the solid and woven walls throughout. Space behind the curtain is present to evoke inOmacy and serenity within this area. It response to the side by mimicking the adjacent window panels that are in zigzag form.
REFLECTION
Overall, this has been a very educaOonal semester in terms of design process, team work and collaboraOon. It is not always easy working with other people; there are no guarantees that they will think the same way as you. This project did not turn out as planned, however this was a valuable learning experience nonetheless. Building small scale models and building a full scale construcOon are two very different things. We have to take into account factors such as the weather, site, accidents, installaOon process, which are all part of the project. I have not only learned how to use a hammer, but also different power tools. While I thought cunng boards and using the right blades were the the only thing I had to worry about, I discovered that it is a crazy world out there and we have to adapt to it. There are many things that I would love to do differently if I were given another chance, however, as Robert F. Kennedy said, “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” I take this fall only as the opportunity for me to rise even higher in the future.
