A brief note on the contributions of fabrication industry for the development of construction projects The worldwide fabrication industry contributes largely in the development and productivity of construction projects because they cannot be accomplished without the manufacturing of important building components. In other words for accomplishing any building project design and construction professionals are required to utilize fabricated components which are then assembled to form structural framework and MEP systems. In short when it comes to the design and construction/installation of structural framework and MEP systems, fabrication industry plays an important role. There is no disputing the fact that performance of these systems depends largely on the fabrication of their components. That means for developing strong and load bearing structures it is important that the structural components are manufactured with high accuracy. Minor fabrication related mistakes can affect the performance of these systems greatly. For effective fabrication of building components, shop drawings are developed by design and construction projects which involve huge details about these components. For example when it comes to the manufacturing of columns, beams, joists, trusses and handrail etc which are the parts of structural system detailed fabrication drawings that are generated by detailer are provided to fabricators. By referring these drawings which contain effective information about these components such as material specifications, exact size and dimensions of structural components, manufacturing standards, and information associated to painting, welding and bolting etc, highly accurate components are manufactured by fabricators. When fabrication drawings are developed by drafters or detailers, they have to optimize the information which is provided to them by architects, engineers and contractors etc. Also important is that, proper link or communication is established between architects, engineers, contractors and detailers etc during the development of shop drawings, since it is important for removing or eliminating the doubts of drafters and detailers. Structural Shop drawings which are utilized for fabrication have to be approved by architects and engineers prior to their utilization by fabrication firms or fabricators. The process of approving shop drawings by architects and engineers is adopted for quality control purpose so that if there are any problems in the drawings they can be pointed out during their review. Accurate shop drawings are highly important for fabricators for the proper production of building components.
