Process of monitoring elements of a linked model in Revit
 It is really an advantage that Revit users don’t always have to copy the elements of a linked model in
a current project for monitoring them. In other words design development team members can conveniently establish a monitoring relationship between the elements of a linked model and a host model without even copying the elements of a linked model in the host model.
ď‚— For continently monitoring elements Revit users can also establish a relationship between
corresponding elements. A pair of corresponding elements is chosen by users for establishing relationship, such as relationship can be established between the grid line in the host project and the grid line the linked project. We cannot establish monitoring relationship between unlike pairs.
Process of monitoring elements in a linked model
ď‚— For monitoring the elements of a linked model, Revit users first have
to open project in Revit.
ď‚— Once a project is opened in Revit, users are required to create a view.
ď‚— For doing so Revit users are required to open a view wherein they can
view the elements for monitoring.
Revit users are suggested to select ‘View properties’ by clicking on Graphics
panel which resides within View tab.
After that they are suggested to select ‘Coordination’ for discipline in the
Properties dialog.
By selecting coordination Revit users ensure that elements belonging to
different disciplines can be displayed in the view that they have created.
Now Revit users should link a model in the host model.
Now users are suggested to perform an important step that is to pin the linked
model. The reason behind doing so is that the linked model stay intact in its place, it cannot be moved by mistake.
User should also make it sure that the linked model displays in halftone so that
elements of both host model and linked model can be distinguished.
In the next step users are suggested to click ‘Collaborates tab’ and then select
‘Coordinate panel.’ After selecting ‘Coordinate panel’ users are now required to select ‘Copy/Monitor drop-down’ after which they should chose ‘Select Link.’
Now comes the time of selecting a linked model in drawings area.
After selecting a linked model in the drawing users are required to select an
element from the host project and then select a similar corresponding element in the linked model.
Once all the relevant pairs have been selected by users they can select ‘Finish.’
Now even if one of the selected elements in the pair is implemented with any
sort of changes Revit displays a warning saying that a change has been made to a monitored element.
