neon and florals It might be time to retire those monochromatic shades, and turn to something a bit more bright. Pops of neon are in full effect this summer, from blazing satchels to glowing nails, and we are totally gaga for the trend! It’s easy to go overboard, but adding the right amount of pizzazz to an outfit gets us giddy for summer days. Embrace the Spring spirit in a loud neon colored dress. From dresses to shoes, handbags to hair or nails; everything is going neon. Get ready to bring a pop of electric neon color to your wardrobe this season.
The key to stay true to trend is never wear many neon pieces at the same time. Don’t forget to wear neon colored shoes, bags, jewelry etc for a fresh and fun look everyday. This season its all about floral prints. Floral print trend has dominated most Spring/Summer 2012 runways and now floral jeans trend has become one of the season’s biggest trends. Add twist to your wardrobe, with some lovely pairs of floral jeans. These jeans are available in soft pastels as well loud hues. Leading the pack is Kate Bosworth in a vintage-
inspired buttery yellow Erdem dress that’s quite unabashedly feminine and a slight departure from some of the actress’ edgier looks. There’s nothing like a little light-hued lace to bring out your inner lady. Try it in floral shapes or other styles. ▶

lace and asymmetry fashionistas have already adopted this 2012 trend into their wardrobes quickly. ladylike with an edge Book in that mani-pedi and blowout: a very puttogether, elegant look clickclacked down the runways, heralding the return of ladylike chic. One part seductive secretary to two parts ladiesthat-lunch, trussed up in this trend you’ll epitomise sultry sophistication on date night each and every time. Also reach for a classic frame handbag. While this top-handle shape is certainly having a moment, it’s never out. You can use it all year. There’s nothing like a little light-hued lace to bring out your inner lady. One of the sexiest trends for Spring/Summer 2012 was the lace trend. Seen at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, as well as in Milan, London, and Paris, editors knew it was a trend worth noting. However, it should be noted that this trend has been hanging around – as it was also prevalent during the Spring/Summer 2011 runway show season as well! If you were lucky enough to grab a few pieces last year, be sure to bring them out again for this summer and spring. Asymmetrical hemlines are very popular this season, celebrities, fashion bloggers and even ordinary
colorblocking creativity What is colorblocking?

This season’s big trend
of color blocking takes bold opposites on the color wheel, and puts them together for the widest contrast possible. The only other extreme and daring color block combination is black/white. So, primary colors on the color wheel are red, blue and yellow; secondary colors are
purple (a mixture of blue/ red), green (yellow/blue), and orange (red/yellow). The optimal colorblock piece pairs two together. The optimal color block scheme would be to take a red, mix it with a green, and add a third color (as in the first photo).
How do you wear it? Color blocking isn’t for the faint of heart; it also isn’t necessarily for the short of stature. For a petite person or one that is not necessarily slim, color blocking can cut you horizontally, making one look wider and
larger than you’d probably like. Try verticals for a better fit. Dresses offer a cute way to do this, but blouses, pants, and skirts can work as well. Don’t forget your shoes either! •

braids and pixies the side-braid

T
he side braid is a super cute and totally comfortable summer hairstyle. There are lots of different ways to rock this 2012 hairstyle trend – over the ear, with a side part, and with a fishtail plait. Check out these cute side braid pictures to find one that works for your hair type, texture and style. The cutest way to wear your the side braid over the ear. Like pigtails, this look
ensures the side braid falls delicately over the shoulder. This look is also fabulous with all bangs and curly and wavy hair. It’s a great look for an outdoor concert, picnic, or even camping. The side braid keeps hair in place while looking adorable. For a simple variation on the side braid, try a deep side part. The part adds a sophisticated finish to the summer hairstyle.
How do you make one?
1 2
Brush your hair thoroughly. Knots and tangles make braiding in general a lot harder than it should be. Part your hair. Since the side-braid look is asymmetrical, parting it to one side is a good choice. If you’re going for a romantic look, allow the part to be messy.
3
Face a mirror to make sure the braid is neat (optional). Watching your reflection can confuse your feel for the braiding (if you’re used to doing it freehand), so this is up to you.
4 5
Gather all your hair over one shoulder. If your part is off to one side, make sure that the hair is on the side farthest from the part. Make sure the shortest pieces aren’t too short to braid. Tug a few shorter strands of hair out of the bunch if desired. Letting a few strands frame your face will soften the look, so if you have long side-swept bangs or want a few tendrils to curl out around your neck,
separate out those pieces now.
6 7
Split the hair into three sections. The area underneath your ear will be the “anchor” point for your braid, so don’t move the braid around once you get started. Starting underneath your ear, braid as you normally would. Grab one of the outer sections and cross it over to the middle, then grab the outer section on the opposite side and pull it to the middle; repeat, cycling through all three strands over and over again.
8 9
Stop at the desired length. It’s best to stop before strands of your hair become so short that they begin falling out of the sides of your braid. Secure the end of the braid with an elastic band, arrange any wisps of hair that are hanging out, and spray with hair spray if desired.

Carnaval is celebrated in towns and villages throughout Brazil and other Catholic countries, Rio de Janeiro has long been regarded as the Carnival Capital of the World. The Rio Carnaval is not only the biggest Carnival, it has also a benchmark against which every other carnival is compared and one of the most interesting artistic events on the Globe. Almost everyone has heard of the Rio Carnaval. Foreign visitors to it alone number around 500,000 every year.
Rio Carnival is a wild 4 day celebration, 40 days before Easter. It officially starts on Saturday and finishes on Fat Tuesday with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday after which one is supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures. Carnival with all its excesses, celebrated as a profane event, can be considered an act of farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. It usually happens in February, the hottest month in the Southern Hemisphere, when the Rio summer is at its peak time of the year. The weather makes a perfect backdrop for the parties.
21
Breeze/Brisa, Summer 2013
There are carnival celebrations in virtually every corner of Brazil, the best-known ones taking place in Recife together with the neighboring Olinda (in the North of Brazil) and Salvador. But the biggest and most famous carnival is undoubtedly the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, where the whole world watches.
infrastructure. Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon are the best, most up-market and priciest options, specially the last two. Botafogo, Lapa and Flamengo are more down-market but still within 15-20 minutes from Copacabana and Ipanema by subway, which runs 24 hours during Carnival week.

Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Olinda and Salvador all clamor for this title. The Carnival in Rio is definitely the biggest and most famous, not just in Brazil but in the whole world. It is also the most visited as well. Hence Rio is dubbed the Carnival Capital of the Globe.
Try to stay in the Southern Rio (the Zona Sul), which is not just the most beautiful and safest area, but also offers the best

Events:
Rio Carnival’s highlight is the Samba Parade. Go to a few balls, join in as many street parties and street band processions as you can, both downtown (Centro) and in South Rio (the Zona Sul). Sample at least one samba school night rehearsal.
Best Street Parties:
The street band of Ipanema is the most famous and flamboyant one. The parties downtown (e.g. Cordão do Bola Preta) are the biggest.
Best Balls:
Buying Tickets:
You should buy your tickets in advance for the annual Samba Parade competition and the Magic Ball at Hotel Copacabana Palace. Some Scala balls sell out also quickly. See ticket details for all events and parties.
Samba Schools:
It is an association of people of the same neighborhood preparing for the Samba Parade and entertaining the community with samba nights. They are not actual samba teaching institutions as their name may suggest.
Learning to Samba:
The best way to learn it just by watching others. Then have a go. You do not have to join a samba school. They do not offer courses or classes. Just go to a samba night at a school, watch and learn.
Participating:
Join in the street parties and march with the street bands. For the absolute knock-out experience, parade yourself in costume in the Sambodromo!

Rio Carnival is the result of months of preparation. People eagerly anticipate the start of each year’s Rio Carnival. It begins with the crowning of the Fat King (King Momo), who is presented with a giant silver and gold key by the city’s mayor each year. Then it is Carnival all over the place, in the streets and squares, bars, clubs and all other venues, taking over the whole city of Rio and culminating in the Rio Carnival Parade also known as the Samba Parade. Coming to Rio Carnival means a bit of preparation. You should not only book ahead your flight and accommodation but buy your Rio Carnival tickets in advance, too. Study the Rio Carnival 2013 event calendar and pick the ones you intend to attend ahead of time.

Measure the distance between your ears across the bridge of your nose, and the distance from the top of your forehead to your mouth. Transfer these measurements to a piece of poster board and cut out a rectangle.

Below: a woman puts the finishing touches on a carnaval mask using beads, glitter, sequins, and other decorations to make a bold, festive statement.
Measure the distance from the top of your forehead to your eyes, and the distance between your eyes. Use these measurements to place ovals for your eyes on the poster board. Draw a slot in the mask for your nose. Draw the outside of the mask along the edges of the rectangle in a free-flowing curved design. The outer design should generally follow the shape of the rectangle, but does not need to touch the edge of the rectangle. For example, the design could be a series of semi-circles joined together to roughly make a rectangular outline. You can make the outer profile of the mask as simple or complex as you want to wear. Cut around the outer design of the mask, and cut out the eye holes. Cut a piece of elastic about eight inches long and staple it to the sides of the mask. Make sure it is affixed firmly so that it does not snap or break later on. This is important to remember.

The Process Our leather sandals and shoes are real examples of how we work.
Partnering with artisans from Ceara (northeast of Brazil), we discovered that the hand-made manufacturing process was dated from the XVI century. One legacy is the ecological leather treatment, which is still done in the same way, chrome-free. Also, all the pigments and colors used are natural. As part of the environmental approach, instead of traditional rubber-soles, we decided to recycle tires. After some versions and testing finally we found the best technology. Even the tool to craft the tires and segregate the rubber from the steel wires was developed along the process of manufacture. Focusing on the International fashion green market, we

develop specific footwear designs to create collections that are being sold in cities such as NY, Paris, Barcelona and London among others. We hope you can see this devotion in each of our products. Everyone is unique.
The Goal Their main desire as a brand is to rescue manufacturing cultures and ancient clothing products that are being lost through times and insert them back into the market. They believe that every element of a specific culture is relevant enough to generate originality and consequently beauty. To enable this proposition they developed a process composed by some steps:
• Include other artisans of the community to work on the project • Piece/Product design update to better fit the fashion market • Definition of standards • Testing in shops • Start selling to partners

In order to create social value, there is an educational approach with the artisans where we support them to become entrepreneurs managing all the complexities of a business. Partnership, mutual-respect and friendship are basis for the cooperation we create. After implementing a project, the self-esteem of their values and cultures is re-established...and we achieve our objective. •
