North Hennepin Community College

Looking Back Four-hundred and fourteen students clad in bellbottoms, took classes in crowded quarters using makeshift desks and sharing supplies when our doors opened in 1966. From our humble, yet groovy beginnings, we’ve grown and expanded to become one of the largest community colleges in the state of Minnesota, serving more than 9,000 students each year with credit classes and another 6,000 with non-credit training.

Picture Yourself at North Hennepin Today Taking classes in a comfortable and welcoming environment, with the tools and support to help you succeed. Learning from highly credentialed faculty, who are dedicated to teaching, and have worked in their field to gain real-world experience. Getting personal attention from your instructors, because our class sizes are small. With day, evening, weekend, accelerated, and online classes, you’ll find what you need to fit college into your life, and into your budget. Tuition and fees are substantially lower at North Hennepin Community College than at traditional four-year and private two-year institutions. Here, you’ll get a wellrounded, quality education that will transfer to a university or to a career.

Looking Ahead Many of our students picture themselves transferring to a 4-year university after their NHCC experience – so we make the process an easy one. We follow the Minnesota State Transfer Curriculum for our Associate of Arts (A.A.) degrees so your credits transfer to any Minnesota college or university – as well as to schools in many other states. Career and program-specific transfer agreements exist with select universities for our Associate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) degree programs, too. Or maybe you’ll decide to get an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or certificate and plunge into the workforce after graduation. And if you find yourself pretty comfortable here, our partnerships with Minnesota universities allow you to take classes towards several 4-year degree programs right here on our campus.

Picture Yourself Getting More for your Money College is an investment in your future – it will open up new possibilities, help you earn more in your career and the knowledge you gain can never be taken away. With all the benefits, we understand you still have to be concerned about college costs. NHCC is one of 37 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities financially supported by the state. For every dollar a Minnesota resident pays in tuition, the state pays $1.02 to support your education. You pay less in tuition and fees, but the education you get rivals that of the most prestigious university. North Hennepin’s staff members are available to help you through the financial aid process – to answer your questions and make the process as easy to understand and stress-free as possible. Almost $15 million is awarded annually in scholarships, financial aid, grants and loans to students at NHCC.

... at an Accredited Institution All programs at NHCC meet accreditation standards set by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, numerous individual programs meet rigorous standards set by professional accrediting or approval organizations. What does this mean for you? You can be certain the education you receive at NHCC is high quality and recognized by other institutions - our accreditation is your assurance.
