Welcome from the Board Chair and CEO
Lisie Gottdenker, Board Chair
Michael Feinstein, CEO
We are so pleased that you are joining us for this very special evening. Tonight is all about champions—our honorees who have made wonderful contributions to our community on and off the field, and our campers with special needs who face and overcome incredible challenges each day. Inclusion is an integral part of the fiber of the Center. Our mission statement stresses our “welcoming and inclusive environment,” and every summer nearly 100 campers age 4 to 21 with special needs are welcomed and included into all Camp JCC programs and activities.
Offering an inclusive camp program requires that we hire additional counselors and medical personnel, provide lift-equipped buses, offer other adaptive equipment, and provide extensive training to staff. Unfortunately, we cannot provide all of these services on passion alone. By being here tonight, you have helped make it possible for our campers with special needs to be fully included at Camp JCC alongside their typically-developing siblings and peers. The funds we raise through this event determine how many counselors we can hire—which determines how many inclusion campers we can serve. It is only through your support that we can continue to do what we do each year. On behalf of all of the children who will benefit this summer, we want to thank all of our honorees, our co-chairs Arlen and Brian Gaines and Meredith and Adam Polsky. who embraced their roles with incredible dedication and passion, our devoted host committee, and especially all of you who have come out tonight to support these children and families. Sincerely,
Lisie Gottdenker Board Chair 4

Welcome from the Co-Chairs Welcome to the 24th Annual Dinner of Champions: Where every all-star is included! We are so pleased that you are joining us tonight to celebrate all the honorees and to support the wonderful inclusion programs at the JCC of Greater Washington. We are honored to serve as co-chairs for this year’s Dinner of Champions. In our collective experience with having campers who have benefitted from this incredible program, we can attest to the impact it has had on our lives. What happens at camp is magical, from the friendships that are formed between typically-developing campers and those with disabilities, to the special bond between inclusion campers and their counselors. The camp fosters a sense of inclusion and acceptance that has reach far beyond the summer. We are proud to support this program and to be a part of a community that values and celebrates all individuals. These past months working together on this event have been a true labor of love. We thank the Dinner of Champions Committee for all their hard work, our wonderful emcee Chris Gordon from NBC4, the dedicated JCCGW staff and all of the people ‘behind the scenes’ who helped make tonight possible. Thank you for your generosity and support. Sincerely,
Arlen and Brian Gaines

CAMP JCC Each summer, Camp JCC provides hundreds of children of all abilities nonstop fun and precious memories. Campers fill the fields, pools and building with joy, laughter and ruach (spirit) as they learn Jewish values, create lasting friendships and build self-esteem. From swimming and day trips to creative arts, Camp JCC has options to make each camper’s summer the best one yet. Every program at Camp JCC allows campers to grow, explore their strengths and build Jewish identity.

CAMP JCC Inclusion Program The Camp JCC Stanley S. Bender Inclusion Program brings together 100 campers with a wide range of disabilities with 350 of their friends and siblings and over 250 staff members for a day-camp experience. Since 1979, Camp JCC has hosted more than 4,000 inclusion campers who participate in all camp activities. Motivated by the idea of bringing all kids together to let them play and be kids, the JCC Inclusion Program truly embraces the entire community. Each child’s needs are considered; their strengths are celebrated. For many children, Camp JCC offers siblings and friends their first opportunity to share common experiences throughout the day. The JCCGW made a commitment in 1979 that all campers would pay the same tuition, regardless of the true cost of participation, which for Inclusion Program campers can often add up to three times the cost of program fees. To make up the difference in revenue, the JCCGW actively fundraises through events like the Dinner of Champions. We thank you for your commitment and support.

November 21, 2015 To Members and Guests of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington: Congratulations on the occasion of the 24th Annual Dinner of Champions: Where Every Star is Included. This annual celebration reminds us that excellence and achievement in sports builds the values and principles that translate to success in daily life. To become worthy of inclusion into the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, an athlete must work tirelessly, make sacrifices, commit himself or herself to a goal and build a network of friends, advisors, coaches and worthy competitors. These traits are as valuable outside the arena as they are within it. The JCC has chosen wisely in honoring Joy and Ron Paul as recipients of the Irene and Abe Pollin Humanitarian Award. Joy and Ron have both done tremendous good in the community, as they have done well in their lives and careers. They give back in so many ways. Event chairs Arlen and Brian Gaines and Meredith and Adam Polsky also deserve recognition for their leadership. But most importantly, tonight's event is a big step toward supporting Camp JCC, which provides a nurturing and rewarding experience to deserving young people in an inclusive setting. What a worthy goal, furthered by your generosity. I call that a win worthy of hall-of-fame status! Sincerely,
Brian Frosh 29

Jacky, You have made a profound impact on our Jewish Community through the game of Basketball. As an offi al, rules interpreter, and, most importantly, as our coach, you have provided us with a role model that we can all strive to emulate. As coach, you taught our young men how to prepare, execute, and compete. But you also instilled in them sportsmanship, a keen sense of Judaism, and you showed them what it means to be a man of true character. You made them champions on the court, and prepared them to be champions off he court. Th s award speaks to all of the lives that you have touched.
We are all forever grateful, Your Family and Players

“Where every kid is an all-star by David Chambers Imagine a place where all are included, fundamental equality raises us all Difference embraced, abilities treasured, and challenges taken for the whole group to solve Where enjoyment is paramount, much fun can be had A deep education of how to connect Comes at the heart of every new day And leaves us much better than we could expect Chorus: This is the place, a shining example, of truest community from near and far This is the place, where every kid is an all star, a model of kindness we rally around Imagine a place where all can be teachers, all weaving the fabric of societal gain Where infinite patience and infinite joy teach infinite lessons to wash away pain Chorus: This is the place, a shining example, of how this world can be friendlier now This is the place, where every kid is an all star, An example of virtue we rally around Bridge: Can we scale up this important vision? A model program to spread far and wide Can we sustain this tangible progress So thousands of millions can share in the pride? Chorus: This is the place, a shining example, of truest community from near and far This is the place, where every kid is an all star, a model of kindness we rally around 107
