OUR Office Office for Understanding and Reconciliation (hereinafter ‘the Office’) sets out to provide a safe and equitable place to process difficult, necessary, or otherwise ‘othered’ conversations. The Office aims to legitimize disadvantaged voices and communities through subversions of canonic spatial and ideological hierarchies. The goal of these operations is to encourage healthy discourse. Though the Office acknowledges the often undervalued nature of social work, it reflexively reclaims the typology ‘Office’ as an expression of collective listening and co-operation.

This project is a study in urban planning and its impact on the biophysical and social potentials of its immediate and broader context. The result is a series of design proposals at multiple scales which operate as an agent between tangible and untangible forces. Our proposal employs different methods of heat island control to encourage congregation across a broader range of indoor and outdoor spaces.

pine cove clinic
A studio excursion to the French River provoked discussion and debate centered around our individual and collective experiences interacting with nature. Pine Cove Clinic aims to consolidate these discussions by highlighting the healing and restorative qualities of the Canadian Shield in ways of moving in, around, and through the environment.

alexanderplatz D3
As a prominent figure in Berlin’s rapidly changing skyline, this project required intensive evolution of the facade and structural grid to meet strict cost and performance goals. The tower was to maintain its slender vertical proportion whilst effectively doubling its base module width. A variety of visual and sectional parameters were tested to compare the impact of each proposed scheme on factors such as shading, material efficiency, or photovoltaic potential.

uppernord tower
A long-planned residential tower and accompanying office module progressed into the contracting phase of facade production and thus, the existing scheme needed to be updated and presented for client and city planner approval. Consequently, the new scheme was developed in parallel for bidding and contracting. Conceptual ambitions were balanced with cost restrictions to produce a detail and finish schedule that reflected the project’s broader aims of expressing the multiplicity of its residents as an icon for the city.
