Documentation of Greek Anitiquities

I chose to hand-draft the Erechthion as part of a project to document the buildings on the Acropolis.

Blind Portrait

This exercise was to draw the face of another person without looking at your paper; just the face of the other person.

This project was to research setbacks and design a home that would sit on the site of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House. Street View

Diagram 2

Maison Des Plaines is a house that is a result of the interaction between a series of planes. In this series of planes, there is a hierarchy, Diagram 2 shows all of the planes that would be built with a unique material to the site or region of the site. In the case of this project, the walls in Diagram 2 would be built out of brick. The light grey planes in Diagram 3 show all of the walls that would be made out of a series of 10 foot wide pre-cast concrete panels.

Project for a Brick Villa

Mies van der Rohe uses planes that do not meet to define spaces. This is a concept that I have incorporated in some of my designs.

Schroder House

Garrit Rietveld plays with the concept of making spaces serve more than one purpose in his plan. I have taken note of this concept of versatility and worked some of my own designs around it.

Maison Domino

Le Corbusier designed Maison Domino as a testament to his “Five Points of Architecture.” These guidelines have influenced many designs of my own.

Eastview Mall Apple Store

This project was to design an Apple Store for the fore-court of the Eastview Mall. My design uses a wall set at an angle to define the space of the fore-court. The glass elements of the building make the above-ground portion of the building into a sculptural element while the actual store is subterranean.

Eastview Mall Apple Store Model

I built this model using wood and plexiglass since my Apple Store design makes use of natural light through the use of many windows. I included as much of the fore-court of the Eastview Mall as I could since context is important in this project.

Gwathmey House Model

This model was part of a research and documentation assignment. I chose the house Charles Gwathmey designed for his parents. For the construction of the model, I chose to work with more than one material, including wood, 3d printed parts for the circulation pieces, and plexiglass backed with vellum for the windows.

Studio Project

This project was to design an ideal architecture workspace for yourself using only the time between two classes. My design includes a large drafting and modeling room with large windows for natural light as well as a smaller space for computer work. This smaller space also allows large amounts of natural light to enter the building as well as providing a space to take a break.

Studi

Victor Horta Sketchbook Pages

I chose to draw the Tassel House and Maison du Peuple in my sketchbook while studying Victor Horta.

Antoni Gaudi Sketchbook Pages

While studying Antoni Gaudi, I chose to draw Casa Batllo and Casa Mila in my sketchbook.

Hockey Skate Still Life

As part of an art class, I was tasked with using graphite pencils and the technique of rendered shading to draw a still life. I chose to draw a hockey skate since I play hockey and a skate provides an interesting object to draw.

Shipping Container Locker-Room

This project was to use a single shipping container to create a usable space. I chose to design a portable locker-room to be used for playing outdoor hockey on a frozen pond. Through the implementation of a telescoping structure system, I designed a locker-room that can be transported as a closed shipping container.

Chicago School of Architecture

The Chicago School of Architecture was the birth of what we know today as the modern skyscraper. I made several sketchbook entries documenting the progression of the skyscraper. Some of the leading architects in this style were the pairs Adler and Sullivan as well as Burnham and Root.

Skyscraper Project

725 5th Ave, New York, NY

This project was to design a skyscraper for the given address assuming a clean site. My design features a central core that would house all primary circulation in the tower. Attached to this central core is a series of boxes and platforms that would serve as the usable space for offices and residences. I incorporated as much outdoor/green space into my design as I could to provide some sense of nature in a dense urban environment.

Cubism Project

While studying artists from the cubist movement, I did a project that interpreted a two-dimensional work of art into a three-dimensional model. I chose a painting by Piet Mondrian called Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue. With the subject matter of the painting, there are many unanswered questions that leave much of the perception of the painting up to interpretation. With my model, I sought to answer some of these questions and show my interpretation of what Piet Mondrian shows on his canvas.

Definition of Space

Space is like water it flows around objects, walls, and buildings. These walls which we set in place as architects are what create space. I took this image of Plaza De La Villa while visiting Spain. A plaza is a space that is the result of the placement of a number of buildings. These buildings create an open courtyard flooded with natural light while still providing a sense of security and comfort.
