MISSION To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change

THE OUTSTANDING YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN ( TOYM ) The JCI Philippines as an organization has the following goal and mission; To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change. This mission finds basis in the JCI Values, which believes: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of man trancends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than of men; That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality; and That service to humanity is the best work of life.

The JCI Values, which is universal in its perception and exhortation, sees man not only in the light of what he is but what he can be. “The earth’s great treasure lies in the human personality and that service to humanity is the best work of life.” It is in this context and spirit that the TOYM award was conceived. If it is idealistic, it is because man must have his idealism if he has to shape for himself a better future, a better world.

The Outstanding Young Men and Women (TOYM) Awards is now in its 56th year. The Awards began as a project of JCI Manila, patterned after the TOYM of America Awards, and later adpoted by the JCI Philippines as an annual project. It is now a yearly undertaking of the JCI Philippines and co-sponsored by the PLDT, Gerry Roxas Foundation, Inc. and the TOYM Foundation, Inc. Over the years, the TOYM has become an institution, having developed a reputation for its selectiveness of outstanding young active citizens upon whom the award is conferred. TOYM seek to give national recognition to young men and women whose selfless dedication to their profession or vocation has resulted in significant contributions to the welfare of their countrymen and our country at large, as well as to the advancement of their respective fields of endeavor. The awardees who have become light of the nation totaling 487 by now, are literally a Philippine’s ”Who’s Who “ in outstanding achievements in areas such as community service, the arts, literature, journalism, education law, politics, agriculture, science and technology, economics, banking, business, sports, government service, and other fields of endeavor. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM 1. To recognize the outstanding achievement of our nation’s young active citizens which have resulted to positive changes in the nation. 2. To focus public attention and confer national recognition to these contributions and positive changes. 3. To inspire others, especially the young active citizens, highlighting the achievements of TOYM awardees as leaders who have demonstrated vigor and enterprise in tackling the problems of society by offering sustainable solutions. 4. To live the JCI Values and consider as a good measure of performance by the awardee. While other awards give recognition purely to humanitarian work, the TOYM Awards is uniquely given for the outstanding leadership and excellence and contributions to humanity. The annual awards are given to recognize young men and women who have proven themselves worthy of honor and emulation based on the following criteria: Service to the Country, Professional excellence and integrity in their respective field of endeavor, and Leadership, including moral rectitude, innovativeness and pioneering spirit.

You put your heart and soul towards perfecting your craft, and raising the bar in your respective fields. You have touched and improved many lives.

I am one with the nation in thanking you for all you have done for our country and our countrymen. We are once again very honored to present our awardee for the 2016 TOYM as we recognize and acknowledge the great contributions of these men and women as we adhere to the precept of the JCI Principle that the earth’s great treasures lies in human personality – which they have developed in its wholeness in their years of service to our countrymen. Congratulations for the 2016 TOYM awardees! This year’s TOYM theme Transforming Communities Creating Positive Change drives the awardees to embrace the challenge of making this world a better place by relentlessly pursuing excellence in their respective fields and making available all their exceptional talents for the service of humanity.

Let us keep in mind that all social transformation begins with personal conversion. That conversion from ignorance to wisdom, from confusion to clarity of vision, from self-adoration to living for the common good; from indifference to courageous engagement--this is the conversion from within that will transform humanity. The change of heart and mindset is harder to achieve than social change.

While all of us can be instruments for social transformation, let us keep in mind that all human efforts, without the Lord’s blessings, will turn to waste. The mission to change the world is a mission that needs the Lord. Without God we are nothing. Many of our efforts are not met with success because we forget the Lord. May the 2016 TOYM awardees continue to inspire more youth to excel and to shine out, to become men and women for others! May the Lord bring to successful completion the good work you have begun! Mabuhay! From the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Dagupan City, December 1, 2016

It is indeed an honor for me to lead this year’s search of The Outstanding Young Men and Women (TOYM). On behalf of our Organizing Committee, we are grateful for how this year’s program turned out. When we started, we envisioned of a good mix of outstanding nominees and winners, so the team worked out extensively to create awareness about the search, spot outstanding individuals and cast a wider net by tapping various organizations nationwide. And indeed, we are very happy that we are able to deliver another batch of inspiring young active citizens who represented various sectors and disciplines. For one, having been inspired by our President, Rody Duterte who is also a Mindanaon like myself, this year’s search produced a good number of nominees from our beloved Mindanao, 2 of them, one from Davao and one from Tawi-tawi, will be conferred with the TOYM Award. We could not be more proud of the how things turned out. Thanks to all of you, the over 200 chapters and the national board of JCI Philippines, TOYM Foundation, PLDT Home Fibr, Gerry Roxas Foundation, Board of Judges, Screening Committee and this years TOYM Search and Organizing Committee. TOYM program has been going on for 57 years already. Since then, almost 500 outstanding Filipino men and women had been recognized for how they positively transformed communities. These men and women are now key drivers of positive change in our country today.

This year, we highlight the positive changes and recognize the outstanding individuals who are the inspiration behind the transformation of our local communities. The search highlights the concrete positive changes created by 11 outstanding young Filipino men and women whose selfless dedication to their profession or vocation has transformed communities, and created significantimpact, something that is consistent to who we are and what we do in JCI.

It defines the end result that we hope each one of us, active citizens and changemakers, will realize one day; and that is to have at least one positive change that we can call our own. This is our commitment and contribution to how we in JCI Philippines, can and will contribute to creating positive change in our country. We encourage everyone to get inspiration from the stories of all our nominees and awardees. All 61 of them from across the country and across the world, are quite a great bunch of young leaders. It was quite a difficult job for our Screening Committee and Board of Judges to pick just a few. To end, we would like to thank our nominees and our awardees for continuing to dedicate their lives to advance their advocacies, to excel in their chosen fields and to change the lives of the Filipino people. Indeed, as what we, in JCI, believe in… Service to Humanity is the best work of life.

Graduating from the University of the Philippines in 1996 with a degree of B.S. Economics magna cum laude; in 2000 with a bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law; and completing in 2014 an executive education program from the Harvard Business School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, on non-profit management -- Atty. Carmela Andal-Castro could have easily chosen a career path that would have brought her much wealth and fame. Instead, Atty. Andal-Castro has devoted her professional life helping indigent women, children and youth who are victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation. For years, she worked as a lawyer and Field Office Director of International Justice Mission’s office in Manila. She rescued and assisted victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse as well as boldy prosecuted cases against their perpetrators. In that capacity, she led her team of lawyers, social workers and investigators in the laudable rescue of 138 victims of child sex trafficking and abuse, causing the arrest of 148 traffickers and child rapists and the conviction of 23 perpetrators. In 2009, she was chosen to be an International Visitor Leadership Program fellow, the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program for emerging foreign leaders, with women’s and children’s rights as her field of study. In 2010, she was recognized by the Philippine National Police for her contribution in the enhancement of the investigative capability of law enforces involved in antitrafficking which resulted in the successful rescue of victims, the arrest of perpetrators, and the prosecution of trafficking cases. Throughout her career, she has championed the close partnership and collaboration among diverse disciplines and multiple sectors. She has worked assiduously with shelters caring for survivors of abuse, national and local government officials, law enforcement, policy making bodies, the religious and private sector, the judiciary, the public school system, as well as local and international NGOs in promoting the rights of children and ensuring that victims of abuse are given the paramount care and support they need to get over their traumatic experiences and reach their fullest potentials. Today, as Managing Director of Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation, she continues to make waves in nation building through her passion and dedication in creating positive systemic changes for the welfare of children and youth. Through her innovative leadership and advocacy, family courts are now equipped to handle children in a sensitive and non-traumatizing way; stakeholders in numerous cities, municipalities and provinces work hand-in-hand to prevent child abuse and provide quality interventions for victims; government and private shelters for survivors of abuse are now capacitated to carry out Trauma-Informed Care services and psychotherapy, and so much more. She is a hands-on, steadfast leader who has competently steered her team of program officers and administrative staff towards improving the lives of 5,416 children and youth through the Foundation’s programs on early childhood care, life skills for out-of-schoolyouth, protection and recovery of survivors of abuse, family strengthening and its nationwide Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Network. On top of all those, she has skilfully led the Foundation’s ongoing Typhoon Yolanda disaster response project, supervising staff in the Manila head office and in the field as they deliver a comprehensive program that includes emergency assistance, rebuilding of schools and daycare centers, sustainable livelihood, and child protection, having benefitted a total of 11,155 individuals as of today. A well-respected frontrunner and dynamic player in the field of law and child protection, Atty. Carmela Andal-Castro has uniquely inspired, catalysed, & created lasting and effective solutions, for the betterment of the welfare of numerous women, children and youth throughout the Philippines. Truly, she is an outstanding young leader deserving of the highest recognition & praise!

Clarissa Delgado, is the co-founder and now the CEO of Teach for the Philippines, the longest serving partner of the Department of Education together with its predecessor Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation. Education has been a de ning part of who she is; she has personally experienced, re- searched, and witnessed how a quality education can transform lives. However, the privi- lege of her educational opportunities and merit scholarships have always had her strug- gling to understand social justice in the Filipino context. Why is it “good enough”, “puwede na” or “just the way it is” for quality education and other basic services to be reserved for the privileged few? Why not quality basic services for every Filipino? Clarissa began her career with research and impact measurement, by managing a ran- domized control trial for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab. Since that time, she has continued to hold positions of increasing responsibility within the development sector, speci cally within the eld of education. This includes directing projects for private corporations and multilaterals like the Asian Devel- opment Bank. In 2012, taking it from an idea and a business plan to a publicly recognized, thriving non-government organization, which bridges the gap between public and private institutions, Clarissa took the lead in founding Teach for the Philippines, a non-pro t social enterprise that recruits, selects, and trains driven and spirited young Filipino leaders to teach for two years inside public elementary schools as ‘Teacher Fellows’. Under her leadership, Teach for the Philippines has expanded nationwide; achieved a 38% increase in employee engagement; a 10-20% annual average increase in Teacher Fellow population; and an 80% annual increase in schools reached. Though close to 90% of the Teacher Fellows at Teach for the Philippines did not consider careers in education and public policy when rst hired, 71% of their program alumni now remain working in education and public policy, with 95% of program alumni hired within two months of their graduation from the Fellowship. Her vision for Teach for the Philippines is that within our lifetime, all Filipino children – no matter where they were born or to whom – will have ac- cess to an excellent and relevant education. The story of Teach for the Philippines is not, and has never been, a story about Clarissa,it is best understood as a “Story of Us.” Clarissa co-founded Teach for the Philippines based on the invaluable support of people who are both motivated by social justice and who have believed deeply in its model of attracting our best talent to the country’s most important challenges. Her belief and commitment in the power of Teacher Leadership will surely create positive impact on the future of Philippine’s. It is hope for our youth. As it is, her work at Teach for the Philippines has already changed the lives of more than 15,000 students and their families, 26 schools and they have expanded to 10 cities. It requires an outstanding young person such as Clarissa to stand up for equal opportunity to quality education, a noble cause that should not be left unrecognized. You do not have to wait until much later in life to be of service to your country. It is a story of us. As she always says, “I am who we are.” Clarissa is an inspiration worth the recogni- tion of The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines.

Seemingly there has been no indigenous Igorot from Benguet who has been bestowed the prestigious TOYM citation. Hopefully, the nominee will be qualified to receive such citation and put Benguet on the TOYM map. The nominee’s life focused on ameliorating the conditions in his home region-the Cordillera Administrative Region-with his fellow indigenous peoples and on creating positive change through excellence in his endeavors and service through manifold roles as a physician, researcher, writer, youth leader, educator and mentor, NGO and rural development worker, and a healing instrument of God. As an involved young Cordilleran (proud Ibaloy Igorot) Filipino, his advocacies focus on health, youth mobilization, education, and history, culture and arts. Shunning attractive offers elsewhere, he has worked in the Cordilleras for more than a decade now after finishing his medical studies at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 2002. He has an impressive postgraduate educational background mostly through scholarships here and abroad. The numerous awards and citations from municipal, provincial, regional, national and international bodies attest to his commitment and passion of service to the community, especially the rural indigenous areas. He has represented the Philippines and has presented papers and talks on health, volunteerism and the youth in the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, China, Kenya, Finland, USA, Brazil, Thailand, Japan, Hongkong, and Germany. With his visionary youth leadership, the seeds that he, together with like-minded youth, sowed early on have resulted in the following that impacts on society: a veritable formation of Filipino doctors who love and serve the country, a generation of Ibaloy youth who assert their indigenous pride and rights, a corps of young leaders and professionals that sustains regional youth participation, and a message of service by an indigenous person that inspires. He founded five youth and young professional organizations (local to national) that are active in nation-building. On health Research and Local health systems development, relevant heath researches were done either voluntarily or as technical assistance to input into program reviews and management for better implementation at the DOH-CAR and LGUs. He is training coordinator for the Health Leadership and Governance Program in partnership with DOH for Regions CAR, I and II and the Leadership for Convergence Program in partnership with the DSWD for Regions CAR and I. The program has made impact in creating better health outcomes (including zero maternal deaths in several municipalities) for 4 million Filipinos in Northern Luzon and better collaboration for DSWD municipal staff resulting in better social welfare protection in 200 municipalities in Northern Luzon. On education, he devoted innovative instruction, research and extension relevant to the local issues in the Cordilleras, with class projects applied in students’ locality. On history, culture, and publications, he actively pursued the promotion and preservation of Igorot history, culture and indigenous knowledge, systems and practices through initiation and collaboration in programs. He is a prolific writer with several books and articles on various topics published. While he may not have been showered with material resources to share, his volunteerism, leadership, social responsibility, and exemplary service are priceless manifestations and inspiration that the Filipino indigenous youth positively can!

Ronivin “Vinn” Pagtakhan is the founder of LoveYourself, an organization that has risen to become one of the leading organizations in HIV awareness, testing and treatment in the Philippines, one of only the few countries in the world with a rising incidence in HIV. Vinn is a nurse and educator who began his advocacy work answering health questions on Twitter. His clear and compassionate answers to people who were seeking health advice earned him the Twitter Nurse of the Year award. He noticed that an increasing number of questions were regarding HIV and sexually transmitted infections, so founded an organization that is now known as LoveYourself. Vinn believes that self-worth is an empowering tool that helps the most affected populations such as males who have sex with males gain confidence and, in turn, adopt safer sex practices. Under Vinn’s leadership, LoveYourself has established two clinics which ranks as the two top most visited in the country for HIV screening. In 2015, LoveYourself assisted 30,000 clients know their HIV status from 2011 to July 2015. Around 50% of the newly diagnosed persons living with HIV in Metro Manila and 20% in the Philippines come from LoveYourself clinics -- a feat made more impressive considering that the non- profit organization is mostly powered by 700 non-paid volunteers. Vinn as a leader that inspires not only LoveYourself volunteers, but also partners with local and international health advocate in the Department of Health, Research Institute of Tropical Medicine, World Health Organization, ISEAN-Hivos Program and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. Vinn is a public health champion that is bringing the community together with his passion and optimism to rally against the spread of HIV. He believes HIV is not unbeatable if we can empower ourselves enough to get tested, inspire others to do the same and educate our communities.

Dr. Geraldine Zamora-Racaza, or Doc Ging, our world-class doctor with humble beginnings who depended on scholarships for her primary education in Tondo, persevered to graduate Class Valedictorian at both UST (pre-med) and the UP College of Medicine (UPCM). After her Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Internal Medicine Residency Training (Most Outstanding Resident for all three years), and Rheumatology Fellowship (both Most Outstanding Clinical Fellow and MOF in Research - a rare feat), she was literally spotted by Dr. Michael Weisman, Director of Rheumatology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California and invited her to be the first Filipino Visiting Postdoctoral Scientist in his Division in 2014. Through an arduous 16-year journey she topped all four licensure exams; is 1 of only 3 Filipinos to be awarded an International Fellowship Grant by the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology; and is now 1 of the 129 praticing Rheumatologists in the country -- literally one serving close to a million Filipinos. She already has 15 publications locally and internationally; 62 research presentations worldwide; two research grants; six travel grants; and two books (editor, IM Platinum 2nd ed.; awarded the 2016 Outstanding Book by National Academy of Science and Technology, Phil.; co-author, Rayuma in the Young). She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, and has been invited (first Filipino Rheumatologist) to participate in the Vasculitis Clinical Research Consortium and to be a member of the Vasculitis Foundation USA. She dreams of placing Philippine Rheumatology into the world map. A lifelong learner and teacher, she is now the youngest member of the St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City Residency Program Competence Team and one of the yought UPCM Clinical Associate Professors to teach/train our next generation of doctors. Doc Ging wasn’t a born leader (in her opinion), but she chose to lead to help m ore -- Best PT Internship Group Leader; served as the IM Chief Resident in 2010 (awarded the nationwide Philippine College of Physicians Exemplar in Training); helped established the UST Phyt and Thempo dance troupe; first President of the UP MedRhythmics dance club (has grown into a large family of #dancedoctors); core group member establishing the UP-PGH Department of Medicine Alumni Associationl and presently creating the Philippine Vasculitis Study Group to improve knowledge of this “orphan disease” and patient outcomes. “Having said all these, what inspires us most is her compassion to the underserved.” Among numerous humanitarian advocacies some of her most outstanding pioneering works include the following: She spearheaded a first for UPCM -- the Melange concert of dance, song, and art, for the benefit of cancer patients. Melange II and III have since followed. She volunteered to the Sagip Buhay Medical Foundation during residency and led colleagues through fundraising events / activities, generating millions of pesos to help subsidize crucial diagnostic examinations and life-saving medications for the care of thousands of indigents patients in the PGH medical wards / ICU. Now a Board Member of Sagip (it helped that she used to do ramp modeling to augment finances) she is staging the fourht Rx: A Work of HeART in October, a benefit fashion show she started in 2009, where doctors model apparel bought from Filipino designers, who pledged a percentage of sales to the Foundation. This “marriage of two timeless art forms -Medicine and fashion -- is a showcase of talent and spirit -- husay at bayanihan. Every step down the runway in a native creation is an inch closer to a strengthened community through health. As a fellow she saw the stark outcome differences in poor and affluent patients with lupus and thus created the Rheumatology Bridging Lupus Fund (RBLF), which will hold its fourth major fundraising event this December. Barely two years from her last graduation, all these are just the beginning of revolutionizing healthcare in her unique ways. Doc Ging’s rare combination of extraordinary excellence in her field, humility, leadership, plus her highly contagious passion inevitably draws people to gravitate towards working together for a common goal - nation building, healing one patient after another - through Medicine practiced both as Science and Art, her #positivechange. She can very well be Medicine’s Pia Wurtzbach -- #confidentlybeautifulwithaheart. She is a trailblazer, an inspiration, someone we can proudly call an outstanding young Filipina.

Saturnino Tiamson Jr., is a musician based in Hong Kong. Being outstanding in the eld of craft is not enough to describe the accomplishments of Saturn H. Tiamson, Jr., a musician by profession and a hero by heart. His life works did not just evolve around playing music for a living, he has brought pride and honor to the country through exem- plary achievements and leadership. 2015 Gawad Geny Lopez, Jr. - Bayaning Pilipino sa Asya Pasipiko awardee and 2014 Bagong Bayani Awardee for Culture and the Arts; Saturn is recognized for helping young Filipinos get free training through his workshops and pass scholarship programs for young musicians, especially the underprivileged. Saturn is recognized for his free music workshops for the youth when he visits the country during his vacations. Through his own personal resources, Saturnino has successfully spearheaded music work- shops attended by youth participants in Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Manila and Mindanao. He also gives personal tutorials via free music online using Skype, Facebook and Facetime. His students come from the Philippines, Hong Kong, Brunei, Japan, China, North America, Kuwait and among others. He also holds free musical and percussion workshops, and gives free consultancy to the Mindanao Hong Kong Workers Federation drum and lyre (MINFED band) composed of OFWs. Outstanding in its truest sense: Saturnino won four (4) Gold Medals, one (1) Silver Medal in various categories and Overall Winner for Instrument- Jazz in the 20th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in the United States of America early this year. Recently, he represented the Philippines and he won 2nd Prize with Diploma of Merit for Drum Set Category ( the only Filipino in the competition ) in the 14th Edition Italy Percussion Competition in Pescara, Italy. As a professional, Saturn is currently a teacher in Harrow International School in Hong Kong and has led the Hong Kong Disneyland Band for a decade. A graduate of UP College of Music with Diploma in Creative and Performing Musical Arts major in Percussion, he has been a consistent recipient of the UP Students Achievers Award from 2002 to 2005; received the highest Sangguniang Bayan Award for Music from Angono Municipal Council in 2013; he was also given the highest award by Disneyland to its employees in 2012, the Walt Disney Legacy Award; Dangal ng Bayan Awardee for Music in 2011 in Angono Rizal; Gawad Sining Award Most Outstanding Musician from Gawad Sulo ng Bayan in 2015; Name included at the Bantayog ng mga Bagong Bayani or Heroes Wall in POEA, 2015; and the only Filipino to make it to the Top 20 Musicians in Hong Kong in 2008. Outstanding as he is, it is not surprising that Saturn will be chosen as one of The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines this year. His lifelong dedication to his craft and his continuing effort to promote music to the youth has made positive impact to many young aspiring musicians. He is able to help many underprivileged in bringing back dig- nity in their lives through music as a profession; this may seem trivial to some, but the life-changing effect of Saturnino Tiamson, Jr. will never be small to many of the young people and their families whom he has touched. Ordinary people doing extra-ordinary heroic acts to their fellowmen must not be put into oblivion. Recognition of such outstanding feats must be made known to the public for the young people to emulate; and so, it is high time that Saturnino Tiamson Jr. be bestowed with the honor of being a part of this year’s TOYM.

Jhett Dizon Tolentino is the first and only Filipino who had been a 5-time Tony Award nominee, 3-time Tony awardee and Tony Awards voter. He was also nominated to the prestigious Olivier Awards in April 2016.In August 2016, he was inducted as a voter to the Grammy Awards. With funding support from his partner Joan Raffe, Jhett started producing Broadway shows in 2012 under their New-York based Joan Jhett Productions. In 2013, Jhett won his first Tony for producing the comedy play “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” which won Best Play. He then made history in 2014 for bagging not one but two more Tony trophies as one of the producers of “A Raisin in the Sun” and “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”. In 2015, he again received two Tony nominations for producing “Hand to God” and “ This is our Youth”. In July 2015, he was formally inducted as part of the very exclusive, by invitation only 800 Tony Award voters’ club. Aside from three Tonys, Joan Jhett Productions also has several Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel and Off Broadway Alliance awards. In recognition for his remarkable accomplishments, he was awarded the 2014 The Outstanding Filipino- Americans in New York (TOFANY) for Entertainment. Jhett’s own journey to Broadway is in itself a play worth staging. He came from humble beginnings, raised in the slums of Calumpang, Molo, Iloilo by his father (a jeepney driver) and mother (a beautician) . Thanks to the generous scholarship grant from Japan’s Sophia University, Jhett was able to gain a high school education and a degree in Accounting at the University of Iloilo. Prior to joining Broadway as a producer, he was just an ardent theater fan, working to send money back home and funding his theater spree by doing odd jobs from caregiving, grocery bagging, among others. But his challenging past was only to prepare him for a different but much tougher world of Broadway. Jhett’s success is an offshoot of his passion, discipline and hard work coupled with a perennial ability to turn life’s setbacks into opportunities. His meteoric rise in Broadway is a result of his innate zeal for theater, naturally possessing that extraordinary percipience to see which plays are creatively and financially viable in Broadway. Through the years, he has watched over 1,200 productions which further fortified his skills and acumen in Broadway production. At 39 years of age and with three Tonys, Jhett now has the Broadway world by its tail. And as a voter to both Tony and Grammy Awards, Jhett is in an even greater position of influence in the world’s most prestigious entertainment industries. Jhett dreams to eventually import international productions – especially Asian ones- to Broadway – contributing in the efforts of making the Broadway stage more global. In late 2015, he embarked on a 3-month Asian tour for this purpose. He also dreams to see the Philippines as the Center of Performing Arts in Asia. At the same time, he wants to reach out to amateur theater productions back in his home province in the Philippines, where small dreams begin. His life is a testimony that indeed no dream can ever be too big or too impossible to achieve with determination and hard work. Being a scholar himself, Jhett puts premium in education and training as key to success. He has been supporting education-related causes for the past 6 years including the Remedios E. Vilches - San Lorenzo National High School in Guimaras and Iloilo Prima Galaw Theater Group. He is hoping that through his support, he will be able to open opportunities to young people to chase their own dreams. Jhett has certainly brought honor to the country and continues to do so. But recognizing his accomplishments in the Philippines through the Top Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) for 2016 will be a tribute not only to him personally but to the thousands of young Filipinos who dream to make it big someday – not just in the field of theater. Nonetheless, his influential presence in Broadway certainly blazes the trail for more Filipinos and Asians in the world’s most prestigious theater district. Jhett is a genuine inspiration and his life is truly exemplary and worthy of emulation.
