CASA_S

PUEMBO, ECUADOR COMPLETED: JUNE 2017

Casa_S started as a master-plan design for a large plot of land in Puembo, Ecuador. The client needed the barren land to be able to host three different single-family detached homes, plus a variety of communal services and amenities such as a pool, a communal room, gardens and orchards. Also, the whole vehicular and pedestrian systems needed to be designed. Then, the houses were to be designed in the given areas. These are early sketches and digital volumetric studies of the master-plan and the houses. MASTER-PLAN SKETCHES

WRITER’S CABIN

PUEMBO, ECUADOR IN PROGRESS

The Writer’s Cabin project began with a series of volumetric and shape studies, in order to find a compelling volume to move forward with. Several iterations were done, finally end up in a simple but powerful 3D extrusion of a triangle-like polygon.

SHAPE ANALYSIS

The parti was to be simple, using the space left by the several trees located in the site. A bedroom would be located between the larger trees, for privacy, while the studio would be located towards the mountain views, for light and connection with the exterior PARTI DIAGRAMS

The volume then rose from a series of triangles joint together at the vertexes, creating a volumetrically interesting shape

CASA_K

CUMBAYA, ECUADOR IN PROGRESS

Casa K is one of two residences to be built in a sloped site, overlooking the city of Quito. Given the pronounced slope, designing in section was key. Plenty of early sketches, both in section and in plan were necessary to achieve a deep level of comprehension of the requirement of the site and program.

BCN_AQUARIUM

BARCELONA, SPAIN THESIS PROJECT 2014

The Barcelona Aquarium was thought as an economic catalyst for a forgotten area or Barcelona, an iconic building to attract tourism to this area of town. It started with a series of conceptual sketches, all which included several key design elements: a public space, a connection between the city and the sea, green spaces and a large interior gathering area.

DIGITAL FORM CONCEPTS

The concept chosen was a semi-underground structure that connected the city with the water, creating a public plaza inside the project. Above the plaza was a large wave-like roof made from cross-laminated timber, to allow for natural light to come in and cool the building by convection.

USRDS TOWER The USRDS Tower competition was a mostly digital effort, with the need for several quick design iterations was paramount. The client required to see various design options, all in a semi-finished presentation state. Conceptual studies of these iterations were done and then modified with client annotations. Special attentions was placed on the slab details and planters, as plant inclusion was key.

RENOVATION

CASA_CV

PUEMBO, ECUADOR COMPLETED: APRIL 2018

The renovation of this 70s farm house needed to start by a comprehensive analysis of the current conditions, both architectural and programmatic. Then, a series of sketches and diagrams started the renovation design effort. Both in plan and in facade, these sketches served as a way to clarify ideas, and to present early planned changes to the client. FACADE STUDY SKETCHES

LA MERCED

This project required a holistic consideration of several different parameters in order to attain a master-plan that served both as an event venue and as a park. Parking needed to be hidden from the main area, while hills surrounding the even area needed to be used correctly to increase seating and lounging possibilities.

LA MERCED, ECUADOR IN PROGRESS

The project also included the design of a small restroom pavilion to be located and used in the event venue area.

MASTER-PLAN CR This project was part 1 of a two-part effort to design a master-plan for the clients parcel, and then design their personal residence. Several site analysis issues were address such as accesses, views, existing trees and sun path and natural illumination
