Aw A rd for e xcellence
The Alex George Award for Excellence was established in 1987 to honor one woman and one man from among those involved each year in the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. The award is named for the late Alex George, founder of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. It represents the values he demonstrated in his various sports activities, namely a competitive spirit, a selfless dedication to amateur athletics, lifetime physical fitness and good sportsmanship. Below are excerpts from the winning recipients’ nomination letters.

Sue Davison
UMB Bank
Sue has been a long-time Company Coordinator for uMB Bank. She recruits extensively on the front-end of the competition, by making the objective to obtain new competitors and signed waivers throughout the company. Then, during the competition, she will take her time to sort through each age group and gender (depending where the need is) and appeal specifically to those individuals to come out and get involved. When all avenues are exhausted, Sue will adjust her schedule as necessary, and take part in an event to make sure Team uMB never forfeits. Although, participation has improved steadily under Sue’s watch, getting a bunch of bankers to get out and play is certainly a challenge – so she has had her fair share of participation. In fact, uMB KCCC legend says Sue has actually competed in every event at least once! (This stat becomes even more impressive considering she competes in the 60+ age group). Sue also serves as an Ambassador for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. 2019 A LE x G EORGE W INNER
Brandon Currie
eSolutions
From the very beginning of the 2019 season, Brandon stepped up to raise participation and awareness of the events for eSolutions. When the company’s long-time Company Coordinator left, Brandon immediately volunteered to take over, not knowing what he was getting himself into. From that point on, he did everything in his power to get participants for each event and assemble the best teams possible. This included putting himself in events that he had never done before, sending out multiple company-wide emails a week, and going desk-to-desk at times recruiting (and nearly begging) people. The results speak for themselves; eSolutions had its best year of participation ever, with over a third of the company doing at least one event (and that’s not including the kick-off party and walk). eSolutions had its best finish in 2018 with 9th place and 340 points. In 2019, eSolutions finished 2nd in their division with close to 600 points. Additionally, Brandon earned 7 medals throughout the season and was a top point earner for the company.
