JCPS students win 108 Gold Keys Students at JCPS middle and high schools earned 108 of the 152 Gold Keys awarded in the Louisville Metropolitan Region of the 2012 National Scholastic Art Awards. It accepted entries from public, private, parochial, and home-schooled students in six Kentucky and five Indiana counties. Presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the awards are the nation’s longest-running and largest recognition programs for teens involved in the visual arts. According to the Alliance, Gold Keys are presented only to works “demonstrating the highest levels of originality, technique, and personal vision.”

The Art of Education JCPS schools offer visual art courses at all grade levels. Many schools even offer a visual art magnet program. • At Pleasure Ridge Park, Fern Creek, and Ballard High Schools, visual arts courses are available in the Communication, Media, and the Arts Professional Career Theme Magnet Program. • At DuPont Manual High, students in the Visual Arts Magnet Program use 11 professionally equipped studios for drawing, painting, computer graphics, ceramics, sculpture, architectural design, textiles/fiber art, and photography. • At Noe Middle, students can apply to the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program. Western Middle is a visual and performing arts magnet school. Highland Middle offers a Fine Arts Optional Program. • At Rutherford and Price Elementary Schools, students can apply to the Visual Arts Magnet Program. King Elementary offers the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program.
