ABOUT JCU SINGAPORE
JCU Singapore (registered as James Cook Australia, Institute of Higher Learning in Singapore) is fully owned by James Cook University Australia. The university established JCU Singapore in 2003 as part of its expressed intent of “Creating a brighter future for life in the tropics world-wide through graduates and discoveries that make a difference”. The EduTrust certification scheme is administered by the Council for Private Education (CPE), a statutory board formed in 2009. EduTrust requires all students to be covered under a Fee Protection Scheme. In JCU Singapore, this is provided through an insurance protection scheme. Further, EduTrust also requires that the students must be covered under a medical insurance coverage which has provision for hospitalisation, surgery and treatment costs throughout their course duration. MASTER OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING This course is accredited by the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) in Australia and in Singapore by the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC), giving graduates the ability to pursue careers in both countries as well as internationally. The course embodies work skills to help students fulfil their professional and personal aspirations.

Students may be granted advanced standing if, in addition to meeting the entry requirement, they have a minimum of 2 years full time relevant working experience.

CAREER PROSPECTS The Master of Guidance and Counselling degree equips graduates with the skills, confidence and knowledge to become a professional counsellor in a variety of locations and settings.
MASTER OF EDUCATION The Master of Education is designed for teachers, managers, policy makers, and educational professionals wanting to deepen their knowledge and understanding of educational theory, practice, policy and process. This qualification does not lead to registration as a teacher in schools.
STUDY PROGRAM Students are required to complete 8 subjects (24 credit points) based on availability and scheduling.

English Language Requirement

IELTS 6.5 (no component lower than 6.0)/ TOEFL iBT 90 (with minimum writing score of 21) and above; or Satisfactory completion of JCU Singapore English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP). Students who have successfully completed 2 years of full-time study in English medium may satisfy the English language requirement on a case-by-case basis.
• Each 3 credit point subject requires a minimum of 130 hours study time per trimester including one 25-hour intensive contact block.
• Practicum consists of 120 hours of practice (90 hours minimum face-to-face) over a period of 2 trimesters.
• Practicum placement assistance is provided by the University.
GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT This course is designed for those who want to work in career education, career guidance and career counselling. The Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) has endorsed the Graduate Certificate of Career Development delivered by James Cook University as meeting the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners. This course can also be completed in conjunction with the Masters of Guidance and Counselling.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (Tertiary Teaching)
The Graduate Certificate of Education (Tertiary Teaching) is designed to encourage exploration and engagement with contemporary best practices in teaching, learning and assessment. It provides an intellectual basis for curriculum planning and development and equips tertiary teachers and those aspiring to be tertiary teachers with specific knowledge and skills. It involves the examination of innovative teaching practices, improved facilitation of student learning, and reflection of practice. The Graduate Certificate of Education (Tertiary Teaching) is a qualification designed for those who plan to teach in a tertiary institution and anyone who is already teaching in a tertiary institution. This qualification does not lead to registration as a teacher in schools.
STUDY PROGRAM Students are required to complete 4 subjects: Learning and Teaching in Tertiary Education Maximizing Learning for Students Research and Reflection in Tertiary Learning and Teaching Negotiated Project or another Level 5 subject (subject to the course coordinator’s agreement) equal to 3 credit points.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF RESEARCH METHODS (Arts, Education and Social Sciences)
The Graduate Certificate of Research Methods is for graduates from any discipline who do not have the appropriate research experience to meet the entry requirements for higher degree programs at James Cook University. This course gives graduates sufficient research experience to enter many Postgraduate Research programs at James Cook University.
