thePlace Tigmijjou is a small village in southern Morocco located in the Essaouira Province. It is nestled between hills of olive and argan groves, not far from the Atlantic Ocean. Each fall, the cacti lining the dirt trails bear fruit, a favorite treat among the children. Men and women work alongside each other to till and harvest the land, which serves as their main source of nourishment. For centuries, the community has remained undisturbed, except for the recent installation of power lines and a primary school. Several times a day the tranquility of daily life is invigorated by the laughter of children and the call to prayer echoing throughout the valley. Some might consider this remote settlement to be a perfect example of Moroccan tradition, culture and community.
