The goal was to create a planted area that would be aesthetically pleasing as well as creating a micro climate to ultimately cool the building and protect it from the harsh winds throughout the year.
The Design: The inspiration for the design came from the area’s close proximity to the Boston Children’s Museum and the channel itself. The idea was to create spaces that would invite the visitors from the museum and the workers from the buisness district in to escape from the noisy environment of the city and bring them to a place where they can relax and enjoy being in a space next to the water’s edge. In the historical scene, the site is in the location of the Boston Tea Party event. So the use of wood decking is used readily throughout the design in remembrance to the old docks. The design also incorporates a grass amphitheater, for possible events to take place, or it can be used to oversee the surrounding area.
The lower walkway was created to bring the visitors close to water and get away from the buisness of the city.
The plaza space was inspired by the crazy paving pattern from the adjacent children’s Museum. The plaza was designed to be a meeting place for the workers from the nearby business district in the city.
