professionals, or simply refine their photographic skill set.
[Enrolling in the One-Year Professional Program] is the best decision I’ve made for myself in a very long time. I have watched my skill level expand exponentially and my output of imagery improve [tremendously]. LACP staff and teachers are more than supportive community; they have become my social friends and what I think of as family. I have reshaped my life and I’m readying myself to go out on my own and build a clientele.

Join Joe McNally for a complete weekend of flash photography! Participants will be involved with camera and flash techniques that are both basic and advanced, the use of color and light to tell a story, the overall management of light on location and notions of how to choose a quality of light that is appropriate to the subject. &LASH IN ,! /N ,OCATION AND )N 3TUDIO with Joe McNally
This course encourages students to photograph people in an entirely new way, to develop a sense of movement and urgency in their photographs, and to capture the strange and complicated nature of being human. Daily assignments explore both prearranged and spontaneous portraits, photographing at night, reportage, and storytelling. Class sessions include slide lectures and critiques.
This workshop will explore the process of building a photographic project from initial conception, to creation, and finally distribution through exhibits, books, and multimedia on the Internet. Phil will share his experience in developing the initial and final concept, in addition to finding partners to help finance and distribute the final product. Discussions will include lighting techniques and how to approach and create rapport with subjects. Phil will also spend one-on-one time discussing each student’s work and the direction he or she would like to take.

In this workshop, students will explore creative and artistic ways to capture the beauty of the human form, as well as how to photographically convey inner feelings filled with poetry and grace. Working with figure models at a private residence in the nearby area as well as outdoors on location, this workshop promises to introduce new and exciting ways of producing images that challenge our way of perceiving the world, pushing the creative envelope.
Lighting is the key to defining the mood, texture and concept of any photograph. It’s the essential tool that every photographer needs to control so their photos have a greater depth and meaning. This dynamic workshop covers three types of lighting: studio strobes with umbrellas, soft boxes and grid spots; portable flash with modifiers, used off-camera, and by remote; and natural light with reflectors and diffusers.

In this unique and insightful workshop, students will become aware of the challenges posed by cameras and lenses, such as the way lenses see depth and space; the way cameras understand time and motion; and the way two-dimensional prints and screens impose edges and corners on what the camera sees. Through lectures, discussions, exercises and assignments, students will explore the specifics of “camera vision” and examine hundreds of pictures in order to better understand the frame itself and compositional strategies used by other photographers.
