Dear JDRF Friends, This year the world has been changed by COVID-19, and we have all faced huge challenges as a result. In recognition of our need to adapt, we have decided to change the format for the JDRF galas. For the first time in our gala history, we are taking our biggest fundraising events virtual. Our commitment to support JDRF’s lifesaving and life changing work is stronger than ever, ignited by our passion for our loved ones and to helping them live in a world without diabetes. We invite you to “Save the Date” – Saturday, May 15, 2021 - when we will come together virtually to honor those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D), and to show the world that when faced with challenges, we remain unstoppable in our fight to find a cure for T1D. As a father to a T1D, as a brother to a T1D, and as a son to a T1D, I am all too aware of the impact T1D has on the lives of those we love, and together we continue to celebrate the progress of research and monumental advances that have improved their daily lives! However, there is still much work to be done until JDRF’s mission of a world without T1D can be achieved. We invite you to join us in celebrating the passion of the Nevada community and the contributions to JDRF by making a gift to Fund A Cure (100% tax-deductible). Your generous gift will help JDRF accelerate our progress on the path to life-changing breakthroughs, improving lives, saving lives, and ultimately curing T1D. Join us as we turn Type One into Type None! All my best,
RYAN BELLOWS NORTHERN NEVADA BOARD MEMBER JDRF DESERT WEST CHAPTER

About Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease which causes the pancreas to stop producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults at any age. Living with T1D is a constant balancing act and people with T1D must regularly monitor their blood sugar levels, inject or continually infuse insulin through a pump, and carefully regulate insulin doses with eating and activity 24 hours a day. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it and there is no cure. JDRF is on a mission to change that!
About JDRF JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research, improving lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. JDRF has invested over $2 billion in research to date and has made significant progress in understanding and fighting the disease.
Our Work From funding innovative research to advocating for government action to providing a support structure for our community, no other organization does more for T1D than JDRF. Our focus is on finding a cure; until we do, the advancements we’re making every day ease the burden of those living with the disease. No one knows where the cure will come from, but we continue to identify several paths that have the most promise. We invest in the early stages, allowing researchers to pursue innovative ideas and approaches that will lead to breakthrough treatments.

My jewelry was never an investment. It was always just for me. I didn’t even feel comfortable showing it to my kids. But ever since my trusted advisor referred me to Kim, I’d felt like I could talk to her about anything. We would sit and talk about which of my kids might like which piece. We found some gems among the gems, in terms of value. But the biggest thing I took away from our chats was the realization that the actual treasure I was passing on to my kids was the memories attached to the jewelry. A big picture like that only emerges when you focus on the little things. — Beverly, San Francisco
