W H Y A L PA C A Alpacas have graced the Peruvian mountains for centuries. Living in the height of the Andes, these animals provide a healthy economic foundation for the shepherds, who care for them. The alpaca fibre is prided for its extraordinary sof t and durable qualities, and it offers more warmth than other natural fibres. They are hypoallergenic, as the fibres contain no lanolin and pilling is at an absolute minimum. Enjoy the warmth and lightness of our alpaca collection made by talented and skilled weavers.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN Back in 2002, Tina and Lasse Elvang went on a backpacking trip to Peru – their first journey together. They met a hardworking, warm-hear ted population with a proud tradition of craf tsmanship. On their journey they were introduced to the charming alpacas with the sof test wool imaginable. These animals have been impor tant to the Peruvians as far back as the Inca-era and the alpaca fibre is considered one of the finest in world. Tina and Lasse returned to Denmark carrying the impressions from Peru and the knowledge of the wonderful alpaca fibres in their luggage. The idea of creating the company was born. The vision was to combine the best of two worlds – Scandinavian design with the Peruvian tradition of weaving textiles in alpaca fibres. A vision based on the principles of fair trade. The first collection was presented to selected dealers in 2003 and a lot has happened since. Elvang is now sold in many countries around the world. New products are being added on a regular basis. Colleagues from dif ferent continents have joined the company and Elvang has reached the World Fair Trade Organization’s highest cer tification as a guaranteed member. But the essence of Elvang remains unchanged. Elvang is all about integrity throughout the supply chain. It is proper behavior and caring for each other. This is why we at Elvang say we create textiles with integrity.

We choose our suppliers carefully. In addition to weaving with the highest quality fibres, our products must be manufactured under proper conditions. We respect our suppliers for their craf tsmanship, history and dedication in finding quality fibres. We continously work together with them to create the most prosperous conditions for their staff. Elvang is cer tified by the World Fair Trade Organization and we are committed to comply with the Principles of the United Nations Global Compact Initiatives.
