Born in 1970 in Germany, Constantin Wor tmann studied design in Munich before working with legendar y lamp designer Ingo Mauer. Later he co-founded influential agency Büro für Form from where he under to ok furniture, interior and lighting projects. He is an exper t at working with ver y advanced computer pro grammes and evolves natural organic shapes entirely on screen before making them real. As a result , his work is precise and controlled but still with an emotional pull in its use of shape. Constantin Wor tmann always strives to inject a play ful element in his work , believing that design need not be taken to o seriously. His motto is ‘form follows emotions’ and so he takes archetypal objects and then redesigns them by adding something quirky that evokes a reaction from the consumer. He is resp onsible for some of Georg Jensen’s most p opular pieces.

SIGVARD BERNADOTTE DESIGN BERNAD OT TE LAUNCH YEAR

The Bernadotte collection is inspired by a 1938 sterling silver milk jug designed Sigvard Bernadotte. The collection to ok the elegant riffled lines of the Ar t Deco original and applied them to a series of tableware. Born into the Swedish royal family, Prince Sigvard Bernadotte was one of Georg Jensen’s most successful and p opular collab orators. Influenced by the functionalist movement , his elegant and sophisticated designs helped mo dern ise the world of silver craft . Born in 1907, Prince Sigvard Bernadotte was trained at Stockholm’s Royal Ar t Academy. He was greatly influenced by an exhibition of Gunnar Asplund in 1930 which marked the breakthrough of functionalism in design and this aesthetic governed his subsequent long collab oration with Georg Jensen. His sleek and sparingly-decorated work was in stark contrast to the ornamentation of earlier silver craft and this mo dernity was a per fect match for the new fun-loving society of the time. The fact that his pieces still resonate with to day’s generations is a testament to his skill and the reason he has a firm place in the histor y of Scandinavian design.

Design duo Holmbäck Nordentoft created the Cafu vase collection as a tribute to the design heritage of Scandinavia and that of Georg Jensen in par ticular. The simplicity, beautifully conceived prop or tion and outstanding quality of the vases makes them truly timeless. Design duo Sebastian Holmbäck and Ulrik Nordentoft strive to evoke an emotional resp onse to their design work . Whilst always sticking to a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, they have applied their talents to a wide range of pro ducts from furniture and lighting through to interiors and kitchenware. This has resulted in a wide field of exper tise. Sebastian Holmbäck (b 1971) and Ulrik Nordentoft (b 1974) in itially met whilst studying at the Danish Design Scho ol. They b oth pursued successful individual careers before joining forces a decade later to work to gether on a series of design projects.

Characterised by a ver y personal exploration of functionalism and simplicity, Magnus Stephensen’s bro ad range of work combines Danish minimalism with a Japanese aesthetic . His architectural appro ach to design has proved b oth influential and enduring. Born in 1903, Magnus Stephensen attended Copenhagen’s Royal Academy of Architecture, graduating in 1930 when he was awarded a travel scholarship. He used this opp or tunity to travel to Japan, a countr y that continued to influence his design style for the rest of his career. Initially working as an architect , Stephensen built many apar tment blocks, scho ols and municipal building in p ost-war Copenhagen - work that impressed critics with his ability to provide mo dest homes with individuality and character. Moving on to pro duct design, Stephensen worked on furniture, ceramics and silver ware, most notably collab orating with Georg Jensen on holloware and cutler y.

After studying architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Ar ts, Grete Meyer car ved herself a notable career in pro duct design, creating lighting, tableware and kitchen utensils each characterised by her clear vision of style, quality and functionality. Her most famous pieces include the Blå Kant ser vice for Royal Copenhagen and the Copenhagen cutler y set for Georg Jensen. She was also a trailblazer for women in the world of industrial design and contributed to The Building Bo ok that formed the foundation of architectural education for many years. Her work continues to inspire a whole new generation of designers and her timeless creations are still to be found in homes across the world.

Henning Koppel has become one of Georg Jensen’s most reco gnisable and significant collab orators. His organic and natural designs bring a warmth to the often strict and clean lines of functionalism and are a testament to his skill as a sculptor. Born in Denmark in 1918, Henning Koppel was already a talented ar tist before studying sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy. In 1946 he star ted working with Georg Jensen. His first designs - a collection of necklaces and bracelets inspired by whale ver tebrae and microscopic organisms - were groundbreaking in their imagination and mo dernity. Star ting her career as an architect , then moving into publishing before star ting her own design consultancy agency has given Ilse Crawford a wide range of experience that allows her to lo ok at p ro duct design as par t of a total lifestyle. She works on interior projects for hotels, restaurants and bars whilst designing lighting systems and pro ducts that can work within them. She star ted working with Georg Jensen in 2012 . Ilse likes to surround herself with inspiration and enjoys researching traditional designs t hen adapting them and renewing them to make them more relevant for to day’s living. She is fascinated by textures and sur faces and her work always has a tactile aspect that gives it a warmth.

Central to Aurélien Barbr y’s design aesthetic is his desire to bring to gether b oth functionality and beauty. He aims to take simple objects from daily life and lo ok at how they could be designed in a different and more elegant way without compromising their per formance. French-b orn Aurélien Barbr y graduated as an industrial and interior designer from the Ecole Camondo in Paris before star ting his career in the studio of legendar y architect Jean Nouvel. Since then he has worked on projects in the world of furniture and pro duct design as well as store interiors. Aurélien believes that functionality should always be the star ting p oint for pro duct design and so places a great emphasis on per formance whilst adding a strong Scandinavian aesthetic . The results are sculptural and elegant but always practical. He loves natural shapes and asymmetr y and works by hand with pencil and paper to evolve exactly the right cur ve and balance for his pieces.

Born in 1959, Thomas Sandell graduated from the Royal Institute of Technolo gy in Stockholm and set up a creative agency with two par tners, integrating architecture, pro duct design and adver tising. His collab oration with Georg J ensen centres around bar ware, with an elegant collection that celebrates the passion and enjoyment of fine wine. Fully understanding the rituals and complexities required in such pro ducts, he never theless brings a strong design element that adds an extra dimension to functional pieces.
