PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The 2015 IIABNY Legisla4ve Posi4on Paper spells
out many of the issues that our state and na4onal Big “I” associa4ons are working on, on our behalf. They include the on-going ‘hurricane deduc4ble triggers’ and the ‘scaffold law reform’, maMers that are of vital interest to all members. Among other issues, Big “I” is figh4ng to permit individual agencies to charge reasonable fees for extra services performed and protec4ng businesses from large premium increases

on workers compensa4on policies without prior no4ce.
To help accomplish these maMers, members
need to support InsurPac and IAPAC. InsurPac contribu4ons for 2015 will be coming to a close at the end of December. If you have not already donated, please do so before December 31. Your contribu4ons help our industry lobbyists get the important face 4me that they need with key legislators. Many 4mes their success is measured by bills that they prevent from becoming law more so than bills they push for enactment. Help those who are working to help us do business fairly and equitably. TriCounty’s first Oktoberfest on October 8th was
enormously popular. Due to this success, we are planning another major fund-raising event on January 11, 2016. It will carry a cabaret theme with music, dancers and raffles and will support the Ronald McDonald House, the ‘home away from home’ for families so they can be near their hospitalized children for liMle or no cost. This will all take place at K-Pacho, a trendy restaurant in New Hyde Park. Details will be out soon – please mark your calendar now.
Star4ng January, 2016, Tri-Lines will be published
quarterly and we remind all readers that we are looking for informa4ve ar4cles that can contain your byline. If you want us to include any reprinted ar4cles, be sure to get permission from the writer. Please send

Thank You by Jeanne Abatelli I would like to thank everyone who
supported our October 8th “Connecting For A Cause Event.” The event raised $5,000 for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60-Mile Walk. This walk will take place on November 20 - 22, 2015 in San Diego, CA. This walk will be the last of seven walks for the year and I’m proud to be participating in it for the second year in a row.
The event is like nothing I have ever
experienced. The only way to describe it, is that it is like a big pink Halloween parade. Everyone dresses up. The walkers will dress in pink and have boas and tutus and hats, but the best part are the stalkers. These are the spectators who come out to cheer you on as you walk 60 miles. There are cheerleaders from local high schools, girl scout troops handing out candy, survivors holding up signs thanking you for walking. There is an over the top group of people who dress up. Men in pink tutus with pink beards, men wearing bras stuffed with whole watermelons, we even had a male prom queen on one day. Last years event had a group of women dressed as hookers who drove around in a van honking at us as we walked and cheered us on.
[9]
Connecting For A Cause con’t
I truly appreciated them all as it made
the time go by much faster. The aching feet, knees and hips were well worth it. Especially on my last day when one woman dressed as a clown held up her sign “41 year survivor and still clowning around.”
I am really looking forward to seeing
who will be stalking us this year. I plan on taking lots of pictures and sharing them. Want to follow my 3Day Journey then follow me on the following social media sites: Twitter: @Injeanneious1 Instagram: injeanneious1 I’ll also be posting to the TriCounty facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ TriCountyAgents.
There is still time to make a personal donation: Every dollar counts so please visit
www.the3day.org/goto/injeanious1. Remember no donation is too small.
Once again, thank you for all of your support! I can’t wait to share this years event
with all of you. [10]
OKTOBERFEST! by Adam Erickson
OKTOBERFEST!! No, not the world’s
largest beer festival held annually in Munich, Germany but Tricounty’s fabulous night of food, beer, music and networking.
Held at the spacious Plattduetsche
Biergartenin in Franklin Square over 250 people packed the outdoor beer garden for what was no doubt one of the largest and enjoyable gatherings held in recent memory.
The venue provided delicious traditional German fare such as potato
pancakes, imported pretzels from Munich and, of course, bratwurst & sauerbraten which was easily washed down with one of the endless beers on tap.
Guests were treated to amazing musical and dance performances true to the
spirit of Oktoberfest. John Weber and his group pumped phenomenal tunes from their keyboard, accordion and guitar. The Bobby Hugel dancers donned traditional Bavarian garb while showing us all how to Schuhplattler!
[11]
OKTOBERFEST! con’t
While all had plenty of fun, October is breast cancer awareness month and
the event was held in support of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk. Through donations, raes and silent auction ticket purchases we are very proud to have raised over $5,000!
Thanks to all of our sponsors for their contributions in making this event such
a success. Head over to www.tricountyagents.org to see all of the event photos.
Look for our next event this January and if you missed Oktoberfest, good
chance you will have another opportunity in 2016! See you then.

Post Holiday Party by Andrew Chong
Our recent Oktoberfest event was a huge
success. All of our agents and partners came together for a great cause – raising awareness about breast cancer and supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Through several events such as our silent auction and raffles, we raised a significant amount of money for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk. We’d like to extend our gratitude to all who gathered with us and contributed to this cause. It was an honor to be a part of this event, and we cannot wait to announce our next event that will also benefit a great cause.
We’d like to extend an invitation to you all for our Post-Holiday Party! The
details are as follows: Post-Holiday Party January 11, 2016 K-Pacho Mexican Restaurant In support of the Ronald McDonald House Charity
[27]
Post Holiday Party con’t
The Ronald McDonald House Charity provides stability and resources for families all over the world. Proceeds to RMHC are used towards many honorable causes, such as housing sick children and their families in times of treatment, giving scholarships to children from low-income families to give them access to higher education, and supporting organizations that provide easy access to health care. This event will be a “cabaret” style New Year’s party, complete with music, dancers, and raffles. Raffle tickets will be sold, with the grand raffle prize being a Chanel bag. All proceeds from this raffle will be directed to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. Let’s welcome the New Year of 2016 together in support of families in need.

The parent company of Assurant Health said that it
will sell or shut down the Milwaukee health insurer — which employs 1,200 people in the area — by the end of next year.
Assurant Health has struggled to adjust to changes in
the health insurance market imposed by the Affordable Care [30]
Act and is expected to report an opera4ng loss of $80 million to $90 million in its first quarter. That comes amer it lost $64 million last year.
The company, whose headquarters is in downtown Milwaukee, specializes in health
insurance for small employers and individuals, the two market segments that have faced the most changes from the Affordable Care Act. "They are a casualty of the ACA," said Steven Schwartz, an analyst with Raymond James & Associates.
Assurant Inc., the parent company based in New York, said it is exploring a sale. Absent
that, it will not sell health insurance policies in 2016 and will shut down the business. Mobile video technology improves the claims experience
Safeco Insurance is looking for innova4ve ways to deliver a beMer claims experience.
Beginning this month, they’re enhancing Fast Path property claims handling by offering customers the opportunity to video chat with their adjuster. This technology, called Video Es4ma4ng, allows the adjuster to see property damage in real 4me and ul4mately make the claims process easier, faster and more personalized for their customers. Required New York City Mass Transit Benefits
According to new local law, all New York City businesses with 20 or more full-4me
employees (30+ hours per week) must now offer mass transit benefits by January 1, 2016. Also known as Sec4on 132, mass transit benefits allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars each month to use toward public transit, parking, vanpool and bicycling. The deadline for businesses to set up new Sec4on 132 plans for the New Year is November 15, 2015. Contact your Human Resources Department or payroll advisor regarding compliance.
