Vertical Urban Farm is located in Downtown Kansas City, Kansas in the parking lot of the Merc Co+op store. The Merco is a local store that brings in fresh produce from around the area to the Downtown community.
The goal of the project is to provide fresh and local produce to the community year-round for areas that are in “food deserts”. This project would encourage more urban groceries, farmers’ markets, and other programs to be developed to help diminish “food deserts”.
Site Plan
Plan follows a linear organization, from the bay area in the west to the community park to the east, that goes from private spaces into public spaces. This idea of private spaces turning into public spaces mirrors the floor plan.
