Why Support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation? Imagine struggling for every breath you take – something most people don’t have to think twice about. For most, breathing is a voluntary act, the simple process of inhaling and exhaling to produce oxygen in the brain. For those with cystic fibrosis (CF), this simple act is a daily battle. The CF Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. We take great pride in being one of the most efficient and effective organizations of our kind, and are careful stewards of every dollar raised in support of our mission. Through our venture philanthropy model, we are able to invest in promising CF research to develop a robust pipeline of potential therapies that target the disease from every angle. The most recent example of the success of the CF Foundation’s model is Kalydeco, the first drug to treat the genetic defect causing CF. While Kalydeco is a breakthrough in CF research and development, this drug works for only 4% of our CF population. Real progress toward a cure has been made, but the lives of young people with CF are still cut far too short. We urgently need the public’s continued support to fulfill our mission and help extend the lives of those with the disease.
Our work is not yet done. Help us to assure that all people with CF live a long and healthy life.
My name is Christian Forster, and I have Cystic Fibrosis. By all accounts I’m a typical 16 year old boy, I play soccer and lacrosse for Forest Lake, I just achieved the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, and I got my drivers license this summer. These things would have been all but impossible just decades ago without the life saving research of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In just my short 16 years, I’ve experienced first hand these incredible changes in my medications, but there is still aways to go before I’m truly a typical 16 year old boy. I still do my breathing therapy twice a day as well as an onslaught of pills and syringes. I look forward to the day that I’m free of this, and can live life breathing easy. Thank you for your help making this possible.

Important note on attendance for people with CF and their families: The health and well-being of people with cystic fibrosis is our top priority. Medical evidence shows that certain bacteria can be passed between individuals who have CF and can lead to worse symptoms and speed decline in lung function. To limit the serious risk of cross-infection between people with CF, only one person with CF may be invited to attend any indoor CF Foundation-sponsored event. Please note: People with CF and their families should be aware that individuals with CF might choose to attend Foundation events or meetings without notifying event organizers. We strongly discourage this; however, we cannot guarantee that only one person with CF will be present at any indoor Foundation event. For more information, please call us at 651.631.3290
