LINE AND COLOR
My initial objective with this series was to draw on the disappearance of print as a basis for a large collage. The strong horizontal elements suggest naturaly occuring forms.
Black and White Horizontal Build One Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage 24 X 32 / 2014
The composition relies on a subtle tension between the deconstructed print and the white horizontal elements.
Black and White Horizontal Build Two Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage 30 X 40 / 2014
I used inexpensive four-color newsprint from a variety of sources, in combination with oils, acrylics, and pencil.
Apache - Line Painting One Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage 36 X 24 / 2012
As the materials were broken down and reapplied, the text and imagery in the newsprint became disassociated, reducing into pure form, texture and color. As this process continued, the implications of the piece seemed to expand.
Ulysses - Line Painting Two Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage
72 X 48 / 2012
The use of stark white horizontal bars in this work illustrates the conflict between depth and surface, between continuity and dismemberment. It is peaceful, yet disconnected.
Line Painting Twelve Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage 40 X 30 / 2014
In the color series I am interested in the relationship between language and color, especially the way in which these systems compliment and contradict each other.
Fluorescent Triptych One Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage 72 X 36 / 2013
The deconstructed materials speak to themes like loss, recovery, adaptation, and resurrection. The materials are fairly common, including posters, packaging, and newsprint.
Yellow/Black - Color Diptych Two Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage
48 X 36 / 2014
The modified and truncated words illustrate how easily language is corrupted, and the fragile nature of memory.
Slanted/Enchanted - Color Panel One Oil, Acrylic, Pencil, and Collage
48 X 36 / 2014
