Being a “hairstylist” “hairartist” “stylist” whatever you label yourself in his day an age definitely has it’s pros and cons. From starting at that very bottom first step of the ladder that we all like to call success. Which the first step can only bring you to the next and it’s up to you where you take your career as a hairstylist you have the reigns to what you do, how many hours you work, and who you build as your cliental. You have to dedicate very long hours and work work work to build a nice cliental in this industry and believe me it doesn’t hap-
pen over night not even close. But after time, sweat, educating yourself to the newest trends, being a reliable hairstylist, you yourself can build the cliental of your dreams. Location is everything even if your not living in the area if your willing to commute it can make or break your career. The competition in this industry can be cut throat as unfortunate as it is but as long as you remain mature in your dream as a hairstylist and not compare yourself constantly to other stylists or bow to societal pressures. It’s easy to get sucked into cattiness, drugs, non relieable characteristics in this industry, but as long as you remain a level head and not give in to all these your then stepping on the next step on the ladder to success. This job is about making people feel good, feel better,
feel prettier, letting them vent to you an outsider to there “intermediate” circle it’s very rewarding as a stylist to know you are helping them by just looking & feeling better about themselves and then building friendships with your clients is beyond rewarding, because believe it or not the way time flys sometimes you see them more than you see your family! Trends sometimes trends are a hit or miss in fashion & in hair. They can coincide or not coincide at all. Fashion can have the newest and coolest trend and take off and everyone will be doing it or it can flop over night. With hair it’s a little different take the ombré for instance who knew that adding roots to your blonde, golden or brown hair that this would be the “thing” of 2011-2012

and completely just take off I mean it is popular around the world, and still going strong! Now fast forward to say the early 2000 and people would cringe at the thought of roots literally and be in the salon every 4-6 weeks to get them touched up pronto! With a hair trend it sticks and makes it’s impression and so many recreate the trend to their lifestyle, personal style and professional career. With hair a few trends come and stick and stick for a long time ombré being one of them, extensions being another, and let’s not forget the infamous “Rachel” shag that still women are doing. In this business anything goes you can look the way you want and be as creative as you want and be your own boss!
