Biography. Bachelor in Visual Arts, Universidad Pedagógica Nacional 2013. Otálora walks through the city randomly getting involved in problematics of the own urban context, showing on that way other shapes of reality that can be looked through as a manifest on his artistic pieces. STATEMENT

"Walking among the streets make me come up with thoughts that cross my mind and I share throughtout sculptures, installations and drawing; for me, getting lost in the city and spread thoughts in my head with no sense, it results on understanding in a living way own concepts of design, the architecture and the urbaniscism. On my most recent years, I've dedicated myself to experiment with two different artistic languages that allow me to develop ideas in a clear and brief way; the first of them is the digital enlighment, which gets to treat comparison and contrast topics between cultures and famous characters known worldwide. These images are questioned for the construction of identity, the desire of appareance and searching of "to be", showing how the foreign and local amalgamate each other inside of a national culture as well.

The second language that I develop to express my ideas is the sculpturesque installations and the assembling of pieces, where the sympathy for the popular archiquitecture is shown off, the leeway, the construction itself and other authentic manifestations that show the creativity of the citizens. Some of the materials that I often use for the pieces are found items in the streets, like: construction waste, cigarretes, paper sheets, stones and dead nature, materials that become unique pieces to describe a landscape and its problematics."

ZEN AND CERO/ INSTALLATION/FOUND CIGARETTES AND RAICE PAPER/ ASSEMBLY/2010/ JEISSON OTALORA ZEN AND CERO is an installation that borns from a drawing exercise. The piece consists of a white line that creates a silhouette or human figure that remembers a sketch built up in a criminal scene; the drawing is composed of elements and materials that start playing with the ideal of time and the human existence.

The Bollards structures are anchored to the floor with the intention of pulling apart public spaces of private ones, for this ocation the structure is used with the intention of doing a critique to the city and its abandonment. Watching with careful attention the shape of the bollard, I realize that its shape is similar to a bullet shell that is being anchored to the earth, and as an artist, it is the way I modify fallen bollards creating gigantic bullets that were put again on its spot of origin, pointing out on this way the constant destruction that the city suffers.

In Colombia, as a matter of fact, where these concrete columns exist, it's possible to see any construction in the future. This architectural ornament is often to be repeated in the houses, making the columns the main symbol of the expansion of families and representing the supposed progress of the citiy.

HOME SWEET HOME/ HUT IMAGES CREATED IN 3D/ 2014 / JEISSON OTALORA The popular housing projects in Colombia start with a plane and images in 3D that show an ideal of confort and architecture perfection. These images of home are gotten through the simetry, the light and the volume that these programs offer. "HOME SWEET HOME" are three hut house images built only with a programm such as 3D MAX questioning the fakeness behind the images, demostrating that an image can always be fixed or make up to make it look more acceptable or less painful to the view.


SPACE INVADERS/ INSTALLATION OF ADS WITH REAL INFORMATION /2015 / JEISSON OTALORA Space Invaders is an installation that utilizes advertisements of House Sales, evidenced the creativity of the people at telling how their homes, the capacity of synthesize and to describe their houses in three rows allows the viewer to create unique mind images that give information of these possible places. The individual narration of every one of the advertisements (posters) rebuilds a new image, in this case, the image of an alien from a 8bits video game from the 80 years that has as a name "SPACE INVADERS" creating a invasive image that questions the viewer.

NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHITECTURES / 120 DRAWINGS BY HAND OF POPULAR HOUSES / 2015 /JEISSON OTALORA "Neighborhood architectures" is a project that shows the concept of home through the drawing; along with an artistic exercise, I take care of bringing together more than 120 drawings from local people inside if the Calendaria (Bogotรก), whom using a pen and paper drew the architect plane of their houses. Every participant of the project told through drawing, the shape in which their ideal for house is defined, leaving on that way, unrepeteable planes and structures.

HUNTING DOGS / DOG'S PHOTOGRAPHIES CROSSING THE WALL AT THE TERRACE/2015/JEISSON OTALORA Some spots that are often to be assigned to pets in Colombian houses are the playgrounds such as patios, yard and the terrace, the last ones allow to see the cruelty and careless for which some animals go through. «HUNTING DOGS» are photographies that make direct reference to enclosed animals as a symbol to protection and surveillance in homes, therefore, it's a reminder for the exhibition of any animal head given by hunters as trophies.

Chiromancy The size of the fingers, the shape of the hand and the random lines drawn in the palm are, by chiromancy, factors that not only show the personality spectrum of the person, but besides of it, these factors can secure a good future or misfortunes, but is it able for a pseudoscience such chiromancy to put order in the destiny of each person? Or as a contrary, the chiromancy is just an interpretation of the anomalies and genetic characteristics of every one of us? “DISLIKE”

The creation of tendencies and viral behaviors becomes part of the new communication that many internet platforms offer to us. Putting yourself ahead of a camera to make every kind of challenges or contests, it's the most common way to entertain and declare a point of view that on its behalf most of the times are superficial answers to real problematics. Internet characters or Youtubers have allowed to evidence behaviors from the people and unique conducts of approvement that are not only clapped and commented for thousands of people, but instead, it starts to become no as a phenomenon but as a new culture practice around all the world. “DISLIKE” is a serie of photographic self-portraits where the artist shows some of the most known and famous challenges in the internet.

The word Usme is originated from the Chibcha dialect, between its multiples meanings to the Spanish, it has a translation "Canasta de Comida" (Food's hamper) referring about the production and consume of food as a reflect of a society that puts in evidence places to dispute, that could be analized from an artistic look; that is why having art as line of work, it is proposed the mixing of two elements from the peasent field that are own from the country: the Hamper and the Seed, the integrity or confrontation of these two symbols from the peasent class in Colombia, it creates an intermediate point or intersticio that allows to dispite about the sostenibility between the environment and the food distribution. This seed with a hole in the center contextualize its utility and it becomes in a small sculpture that interpellates the viewer, outting in evidence concerns about the territory. It is a country of farmer origin, the image is a metaphor of the micro world that may be contained either in a Seed or a Hamper, furthermore, it also speaks out about the ancestral richness and nature of the predecessor peoples with its own systems of cultivation and quitable distribution of food. That is how the mixing of Seed/Hamper becomes a legacy of resistence, in a weapon or environment bomb of the memory that invitates to the protection for the sows and the earth, but for the tradition and the culture that is dissapearing.
