About: The museum of light is an approach to touch the human lives through architecture. It combines the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi with the ve basic elements of nature through light. It is a testament to the historic ideas and not the events as, for me, history should teach more than just stories. The design proposal holds more than just one purpose. It involves the betterment of the site where it will be built, record of historic values and ideas, evolution of a public space, generating a harmonic and wonderful experience, the capability to be a monument for the future and much more. Also, “The Museum of Light” is a unique proposal in itself and is something that has never been constructed before. The design of the museum will be an effort to give importance to the various principles, uses, benets and beauty of light with an emphasis on the part of light which is available naturally. In this museum, the “Light” will be featured as an element of portrayal and will be manipulated with, to create an interactive effect of light and shades which would then depict forms of different sorts which then will be observed and experienced by the visitorscontains all the secondary functions.

The primary purpose of the museum is to showcase the philosophies of Mahatma Gandhi i.e. unity, spirituality, simplicity, non – violence and truth in congruence with the ve basic elements being earth, water, re, air and sky also called “The Panchmahabhutas” in presence of Light. The museum consists of three buildings to serve the primary and the secondary purposes. The rst two buildings incorporate the ve “Halls of Light” carrying out the primary purpose of demonstration of philosophies while the third building situated in middle back contains all the secondary functions.

Project Type

Site

: Mogri village, Anand

Institute

: S. M. A. I. D.

About:

As many villages today, Mogri has become a victim of unplanned development The village suffers the lack of sufcient vegetation, whether its on street or off street because of the dense haphazard development. But then there is the Mogri Lake, situated alongside Janta-Gana road just in front of the informal entrance of the village. The site has a potential to transform into a place of social attraction and gathering and be a turning point in the development of Mogri’s infrastructure. Thus after in-deph study and analysis of demography, population density, site use, current needs, etc. the design proposals of• • • • •

Commercial Complex Community hall 1 Community hall 2 Public Promenade Amphitheatre and Public park

were nalized to work on. The existing structure of shops and the present community halls is old and aesthetically unappealing and asymmetric. Moreover these structures become an obstruction while executing the plan of increasing the width of Janta – Gana road to convert it into a highway proposed by Anand Vidhyanagr Karamsad Development Authority.

The enhanced aesthetics of the place attracts he people, while adding to the value of the surroundings because of the caused development. The existing shops were in a very dilapidate condition and their structures were falling apart which made them vulnerable to the natural calamities like earthquake.

Community Hall 1 & Community Hall 2 designed for the Rabari community to be rebuilt brand new on condition of demolishing the old one and also letting it for public use since the old structure sits on the edge of the lake and doesn’t help much in enhancement of the lake edge. The new community hall consists of a large banquet with the big view of the lake, a bigger kitchen, admin ofď€ ce, proper lavatories and a beautiful deck with the lounge facilities

With the above mentioned design proposals the scope of – • Employment generation • Increase in footfall • Prevention of space abuse and decay • Increase in the land value of surroundings • Provision of functions to the unused area of the lake can be achieved. The project mainly focuses on the needs of the people and the village and enhances the quality of the spaces of present day village. The spaces are mostly public oriented and open for all. The design style is kept modern which creates a kind of a contrast with the context so as to show that the village still has the potential to cope with the modern trends and is not outdated.

: VTH SEM. INSTITUTION DESIGN

Year

: 2015

Project Type

: Architecture College

Site

: Arbitrary Site

Institute

: S. M. A. I. D.

About:

The studio project is about the design of an Architecture college as the part of the institutional studio. An arbitrary rectangular site of 450 sq. m. was introduced for which proposal was to be designed. The design was to be done keeping the hot and humid climate condition of the given site and was supposed to be as much sustainable as it could be. The wind direction being from SWNE was also provided which was to be considered too. The primary goal of the studio exercise was to learn the way to study the working of any institution and make a design that can comfortably ď€ t the requirement and program.
